Review: If you want to hook up any game console to your high resolution monitor, this is what you need. You will truly see and appreciate your console's full graphic ability. I have it hooked up S-Video and I heard the quality is a bit fuzzy with RCA cables. GET THIS IF YOU WANT TO HOOK UP GAME CONSOLE TO COMPUTER MONITOR!!!

This is a perfect solution if they already have a computer.For comparison purposes, the other alternative is to purchase a TV tuner card for the computer. However, this substantialy degrades the picture quality and performance of the machine. With the ViewSonic box, your monitor becomes your television, even with the computer turned off. Overall, this is an inexpensive solution that makes sense. Why haul two large pieces of electronic equipment, when this box combines the two? Now they can save their money, and buy a VGA flat panel monitor, or DVD player!

Summary: Old monitor becomes very good TV.
Review: Most computer monitors -- even old, unloved ones -- are of better quality than most TVs. I used this device to convert a good-quality monitor into a really good-quality TV, at a much lower cost than buying a new TV (plus I didn't have to get rid of the old monitor). Because it scales the TV image up to 1024 x 768, this device makes a beautiful, smooth picture with none of the fine horizontal stripes one can see on traditional TVs. It feels as if the image has more detail. The box works flawlessly and is well worth the price. However, there are two negatives: (1) it is not compatible with most universal remotes, because ViewSonic remote codes don't match any popular brand of TV, (2) the range of brightness is more limited than on an normal, analog TV.

You can easily switch from surfing to watching TV with the press of a button. I first purchased a PCI based TV Tuner card. Nothing but a hassle. Driver issues and with an older PC it just didn't work. Picture quality is good (it isn't HDTV but it's good). So far so good.

Summary: Beats hauppage on my W2K box, except for sound
Review: Overall, for the price, this is a nifty little device, which along with a panasonic dvd player, is going to replace my spare windows box which has been my media console ;) Picture is very sharp (sharper than my basic pci hauppage card), remote is confusing at first, but works nicely once you play with it. Sound is average, compared to my santa cruz sound card in pc, but it does have bass and treble adjustments, which are nice. It is nice that it supports 1024x768 resolution - I think that really helps it to push as much sharpness out of standard TV signal that's possible. If you have a nice computer monitor, for $$$$ this makes a nice tv set (and will maybe save you from unecessarily tossing the monitor, or unecessarily buying a new tv tube).

Review: People, when writing reviews please compare picture quality to an already existing standard (DVD, VHS), instead of saying "overall good picture quality", "picture is nice", etcetra.
Something like "its just about as good as a DVD-Playback on my computer" is more helpful to those who are thinking of buying the same product.

Summary: Viewsonic MultiMedia Box
Review: The box was as advertised. My major gripe is assuming it would work, much like an ATI or Hauppauge TV tuner card where you can watch a small box display of a TV signal, while working on a PC at the same time. You cannot do this. It's an either Full Screen TV or Full screen PC. Would be a nice touch to add this functionality, somehow.

Summary: Inexpensive Scaler for a Home Theater
Review: The device is used by many in the home theater community as an inexpensive digital scaler to convert NTSC sources (such as VCR, Laserdisc, and Cable) into a progressive RGB output for input into their Plasma displays, Digital projectors or CRT projectors. At [the price of] this unit compares to similar devices ranging [much higher prices] (such as the iScan Pro device and similar). I have used it in my theater with great success. The device is also very flexible. If you elect to upgrade your home theater setup to a more expensive scaler, this unit can be paired with a monitor for another TV in another room of the house. All around a great value.
