Rating: Summary: Great alternative to PCI tuner. Review: Have a pci tv tuner, a few years old now, and really never liked the quality. Always was slightly fuzzy, or color wasn't adjusted right. Attempted many times to adjust, but then would have to readjust for a different channel. Once I got to college and I got my own computer, tried a usb tuner by ATI. It slowed the system down, and was marginal at small sizes and unacceptable at full-screen. This year discovered this product, just got it, and have to say so far so good. Great picture quality, minimal degradation of normal computer monitor signal, and decent audio on my Klipsch speakers. I would recommend this to anyone trying to save space and get a good tv for a reasonable price.
Rating: Summary: almost perfect Review: I bought this from Amazon about 9 months ago. I am quite happy with it and use it whenever I'm on the computer. Picture quality is great. There is a vertical line of static fuzz along the left side, but that was fixed by recentering the picture. Sound is great on speakers, but on headphones I have sometimes noticed a slight buzzing noise. The memory for channel labels gets a little funky when you label lots of channels. You will eventually notice old labels getting corrupted as you add new ones. This can be fixed by filling in every single character of every label, explicitly entering spaces at the end. The remote works perfectly. I would definitely buy another one if I needed it - I'm just pointing out those flaws I've noticed. The resolution is adjustable with a maximum of 1024x768. This resolution makes a slightly better picture IMO than you can get from 640x480 or 800x600 devices. The difference however isn't as significant as you might think because the source signal is still just low-res television. But more pixels means the device can do a more accurate job of rendering the TV signal to your monitor. The refresh rate can be either 60Hz or 75Hz. Unfortunately, 75Hz isn't really useful because it makes the picture stuttery and unpleasant. This happens because the source signal is 60Hz, so every few frames you get a repeated frame. This looks especially bad when looking at news/stock tickers or video games. 60Hz works great. I would have liked a 120Hz mode for those monitors that can handle it - That would display perfectly while greatly reducing the flicker of 60Hz. I'd also have liked a picture-in-picture mode, but I can live without it. I've come to take this device for granted, which indicates how well I like it.

Rating: Summary: Beautifully sharp video image! Review: I bought this tuner box to go with a multimedia projector so I could watch TV without having to hook in a vcr (I only watch DVDs). When I saw how sharp the tv images were compared to the dvd video player I had hooked up to the projector's s-video jack, I switched the dvd player hook-up to the s-video jack on the tv tuner box. It was now like looking through a freshly cleaned window at a live action scene, not watching a video image!! It's that sharp!! I've built a home theater around this set-up. I only subtracted a star for the fact that the tv tuner box seems to be affected by that...Macrovision signal, causing the image to cycle between full brightness and a slightly darker image. This is much more noticeable on a large screen and not a smaller computer monitor. Overall a really great product!
Rating: Summary: really nice unit Review: I bought this vga box because I own a front CRT projector (sony 1270) with RGB input. The projector does not have a line doubler built in so when watching tv, even the slightest motion shows the scan lines (you thought the scan lines were bad on a 50" bigscreen. try looking at them on a 120" screen!) ...it's a huge improvement for the price. I plan on ordering a second one for my 21" computer monitor.
Rating: Summary: A good product with a drawback Review: I bought this video box primarily to play PS2 games on my LCD because I do not have a TV. Even though the image is slightly better than a TV tuner card, it didn't meet my expectation as it is still a bit fuzzy. I then read some reviews on the S video cable, and all of them were positive with the image improvement. So I went to Funcoland and purchased a SONY original S video cable for Playstation(attention! Do not buy generic brands because there are cases when the generic cables break the game consoles). The image quality improved dramatically, and the fuzziness went away. If you are buying this video box for reasons other than watching TV, then I suggest you to purchase a S video cable.
Rating: Summary: Just wanted to say something. Review: I do NoT own This... Im sure its good... But, One advantage of the TV tunners that go in your computer and USE your computer To display The TV or whatever On the Computer screen, Is that YOU CAN RECORD VIDEO FILES or take pics of the TV on your computer. Thats one thing I'd want in a TV tunner.
Rating: Summary: Love it Review: I do. I love the convenience, affordability, and the compactness. I did not want to find a place for a TV in my bedroom, so when I saw this product, I decided to take advantage of my new 19" monitor on my computer. Since I have a cable modem with it, I have a built in cable TV! I am extremely satisfied with the quality.
Rating: Summary: Will this work on a TV? Review: I don't have this product but found it searching for a tv tuner box. We have a great older model TV that is not remote control and we've been using a box on it but it died and I'm searching for another one. We found one at a local store but it doesn't let us control the volume so it's really NOT what we want. If I can find one online I'll return it. So I'm trying to find out if this one will work on a TV.
Rating: Summary: A very flexible little box Review: I don't own a TV and have been using the video in and TV tuner in my desktop Mac along with my TiVo and DVD player to make do until I breakdown and buy an actual TV. This little box will put off that day for a good long time. I no longer have to wait for my "TV" to boot, and I can change the volume via a remote. Pure luxury. It did take a while to fine tune the color/contrast/brightness using the boxes onscreen controls and the controls in my monitor. At one point it did look quiet muddy, but a little tweaking got it looking fine for my undiscerning eyes from my TiVo, and really nice on the s-video connector from my DVD player. The great thing about this box is the flexibility. Want to watch my TiVo on the composite video in with RCA audio, click a button. Want to watch a live sporting event directly on coax, click that button. Want to watch a DVD on the S-video input (with the audio going directly to my dual input speakers), click that button. Want to use the monitor with your computer and hear computer sounds via the mini-jack pass through, click that button. It's very nice. The only thing I could ask for is another pair of RCA audio inputs for my DVD player. So, if you're sick of booting your "TV," buy this box.
