Rating: Summary: Buyer Beware! Review: COPY OF EMAIL SENT TO TECH SUPPORT:
I recently purchased a new laptop from Dell, and while ordering this new system, I purchased your IntelliMover package. I was somewhat hesitant to purchase because I saw some mixed reviews on sites like CNet and other such software review sites. The problem is, of the 10 or so reviews I read, 7 would be good, 2 would be great, but there was always that one lone dissenting voice in the crowd.
I chose to look at it like Olympic skating: throw out the top and bottom scores and grade from what's left over. I feel that I have made a huge mistake is using this formula.
I used your product, exactly as instructed, and began the transfer of data. After several hours, I was ready to see the results. I will say that the bulk of files that I wanted were moved over. However, those files could have more easily been moved across the network by simply using "drag and drop". I was really looking forward to my Windows settings being moved over. But the only thing that seemed to transfer was the Favorites from Internet Explorer. My desktop did not look the same, as described in the manual and online material.
In fact, the worst thing about the transfer was that for whatever reason, when I was done moving files over, I was instructed to restart my old system (also a Dell, by the way). When I rebooted, my old PC would not start. It froze at the Welcome/Username/Password screen. I contacted Dell for support, and after - literally - 5 phone calls and a total of 3 hours on the phone with Support Staff, the prognosis was not good. It was recommended that the only fix was to reinstall Windows XP Pro on the PC.
Knowing that I still had data on the old system that I needed, I saw no other alternative and went ahead and reinstalled XP. When the dust had settled though, my worst shock came across me. I had in my previous installation of XP, in the My Documents folder, hundreds of photos and videos of my only child that are now gone. The first 9 months of his life, chronicled through photos and video...gone! These are photos that cannot be recreated. I can never shoot video of his first crawl again. These many priceless moments are lost. Thank you for helping to wipe the memories of my son!
Your product did not perform as detailed in your materials online or included with the product. It failed to complete its main objective of moving all the data and settings over. It was a waste of my time and money. Am I upset that I wasted $49.95? Normally I would be. But I am more upset that all the pictures and videos of my son are gone forever. I can assure you that I will be visiting those software review sites and sharing with them the horror that your company seems to want to inflict on users. I will most certainly NOT recommend your product...not even to someone I hate.
