Summary: Pretty poor showing
Review: I am having trouble saying anything nice about it. Its bulking weights 5-10 times most flash MP3 players. The controls are touchy. It is very easy to restart your clik-disks. The clik-disks are cheap compared to Flash but CD-Rs are cheaper and last longer. The RIOvolt and Samsung's MP3 CD-R players have out done it. If you want light weight and compact look at some of the smaller lighter flash units. If you want a large selection on songs, RIOvolt is better.

Summary: Excellent MP3 player for an excellent price.
Review: I recently bought this MP3 player and I love it. Before I bought it I did some research. I looked at a couple of choices. The Creative Labs Nomad II and the Rio 800. I decided on the Iomega HipZip for several reasons. For instance, the HipZip uses the very popular PocketZip (Click) disk. Which can store 40MB, about 45 minutes of music at 128Kbps... more if you sample them at 64Kbps. Eventhou the Rio and Nomad II offer 64MB, if you want more you have to buy smart media cards or compact flash which are not very cheap. PocketZips are about [price] each. Another reason was the price. HipZip cost [price] the other two cost [price]... With that money you can buy 10 PocketZip disk which will give you 400MB or about 7 hours worth of music. I also like the way you load the files into the player. just drop them using Windows Explorer. Finally unlike other players that just support MP3's, the HipZip also supports WMA (Windows Media) files. This is by far the best MP3 player. You should get... you won't regret it.

Review: Just got my HipZip. It is great. However a few minor problems should be able to fix in firmware. 1) Battery charging. It doesn't show if it is charging or not when it is off. (unlike my cell phones) 2) No indication of a protected WMA files can't play. It just won't show. It is a bit confusing when u know u save a WMA file and doesn't show in the playlist. 3) Can't play music while it is connected to your PC. Other than that, it is great. And I don't have any problem w/ the headphones. They sounds fine to me. (well, ok, not the best, but they are still ok)

Summary: Great player for the dollars!
Review: After three disappointing experiences with SonicBlue's RIO's I researched MP3/WMA/Audible players, and decided to try the HipZip from Iomega. I was not disappointed in this one! The packaging for the HipZip indicated a level of care that SonicBlue should study. The printed material was clear, and indicated even before I started installing that the unit I purchased would need an upgrade before it would be audible ready. After many frustrating hours with RIO's, I braced myself for another long session of computer installation and initialization hassles. However, the HipZip was not only easy to install, the printed materials on top of the software CD's clearly indicated that the software gets installed before the hardware. Iomega took no chances that a novice would fail at the installation process. The clear instructions brought me to the step of adding the device to the Audible Manager. At this juncture, I thought for sure the trouble would begin; I was wrong. Once again, the process was clearly presented, and easily accomplished. I upgraded the firmware from within Audible Manager, and the download from Iomega's web site installed in only a few minutes. The final test was seeing if finally I had purchased a player that actually worked. It not only works well, the added benefit of using the pocket disks for file transfer is, again, easily accomplished using Windows Explorer. The layout of the buttons on the player is intuitive, easily mastered, and simple to use, especially with the fine display. The carrying case is not only stylish, but well-designed. The earphones have a design that should well-suit the athletic user, as they hug your ears snugly. The technical description of the product indicates no power adapter, yet the player did come with one. You can use it immediately after installing the software and hardware, with the power adapter charging the unit while you listen. Overall, this product shows that Iomega knows what they are doing, has a good quality control department, and with the recent price decrease, now prices the player extremely competitively, offering a great value for the money. I would highly recommend that anyone interested in a player for audible books and music steer clear of the RIO's and put their bet on Iomega's HipZip. With pocket zips relatively inexpensive, you can have a variety of music and books ready to go, without spending time erasing and copying to refresh your listening experience. Bravo, Iomega!

Summary: Unbeatable for the price, but something better is on the way
Review: So I've only had my hip zip for a couple of weeks, but I absolutely love it thus far! For sound quality (once you replace the crappy koss headphones), functionality and PRICE ..., it absolutely cannot be topped! My only issue is that Iomega is coming out with a 100mb click disk this fall. I called customer service and they said that "as of now the current Hip Zip will not be able to read the higher capacity disks. A new generation of Hip Zip will be offered to read the 100mb disks." It's tempting to wait for a big bump in capacity, but I'm guessing a 150% increase in price will accompany the 150% increase in memory. For now, I'm sticking with what I have, but if you're in no hurry and the added $ is not an issue, a 100mb disk sounds suh-weet!

Summary: Cant say it's bad
Review: Ok so this is a REALLY good player yes it is! For the fact that its big? No way...it fits perfectly in the hand and all the buttons are friendly and easy to reach. It has a really friendly design. I bought one and when I got it, I was amazed....All you do is install software,restart computer, plug in USB cable then plus it also to the player, plug in rechargeable battery then plug it in the player, start computer and start dragging and dropping Mp3 files. And erasing is SO easy..you go in the drive that says PocketZip then right-click and go DELETE and thats it.....you cannot beat that. And plus it works with Windows 95 (The only problem I had is that the screen was a bit black in the back and so I gave it back but it was just something that you just exchange it and that's it Anywayz.....the HipZip is THE ONE and hopefully the 100mb pocket zip discs will be good with this one ( LETS HOOOPE!) Til then, 40 mb is enough if youre like me and want to get a small amount of songs then change whenever you want in 1 to 5 minutes max (or more if you have a hard time picking wich songs will suit your mood) Anywayz....hope this helped...bye now

Summary: Hip Zip...It doesn't get any better!
Review: I joined the light listener program with Audible.Com and was thrilled at the concept of listening to books on my Mp3 player. I bought a Rio500 and when I received it, I could not turn it up loud enough to hear the book. I sent it back in disgust and ordered the Hip Zip by Iomega. What a difference! Loud, clear, great little 40mb discs and very easy to use. The Hip Zip runs for many hours on one charge. I have been able to get through a 6 hour book without recharging the unit...while the others need new batteries over and over again. The name Iomega tells you a lot about quality and the Hip Zip is right in line with what you would expect from this great company.

Summary: Excellent travelling companion
Review: For me, not an MP3 person, the HipZip is really slick. You MP3 aficionados might find it clunky, but it's great if you don't have access to a CD burner. I also like having extra memory, no matter how little, for my laptop when I'm on the road. It's a little thicker than an MP3 player, and you can hear the PocketZip disk drive, but it barely vibrates and I cannot make it skip, which makes it superior to a CD walkman if you are going to use it while exercising. I installed the software on both sides of my partition (Windows Me and 2000). Both loaded it easily, and the software runs equally well on Me and 2000. For transferring CDs, you have to temporarily store the files on the hard drive. I find the Microsoft software more convenient than the Iomega, at least for transferring tunes from CDs. Using the Windows WMA format instead of MP3, I can store twenty songs or a full CD on a 40 MB disk. The problem is disks are eight bucks each when bought in a pkg of ten. That's almost as much as a prerecorded CD, but you can write over it countless times. Hooked directly to my speakers it sounds as good as a CD. I could tweak it if I fiddled more with the equalizer. Used in conjunction with noise reduction headphones, it is an ideal companion on a long, noisy flight.

Summary: just a quiky
Review: hipzip is probably the best mp3 player there is out ther right now, but looking into the utilities of this device, i see no difference between the hipzip and a cd player besides the no moving parts and the size, besides you still have to change disks too. if you really want heavy music playing time i suggest you go for a mp3 jukebox such as the nomad one which stores 6b, or some others. buy the hipzip or in fact any other mp3 players cuze you think cd's are a bit too big, but thats about it.

Summary: NICE MP3 player!
Review: First off, let me begin by saying I was very weary about purchasing an MP3 player of any sort. They all seemed too expensive for the musical value(i.e. storage capacity) you got in return. And expandable memory cards are very expensive. I had a cd writer and could burn my own cds which I primarily used when I worked out in the gym. However, I got increasingly frustrated by the amount of skipping from my supposedly skip proof cd player and decided it was time to look into a decent MP3 player. Boy am I glad I did. The Iomega HipZip is a great MP3 player. Despite having moving parts, it is completly shook proof. I have tested it out driving in my car, jogging, and working out in the gym, and the HipZip just won't skip. I also love the fact that the music files are stored on removable zip discs which are much more economical than flash media cards. On the audio side, I found the sound quality on the same par as my cd player when using a good set of headphones. The control setup is nicely laid out and very user friendly. The display screen is relatively large and you have a backlight option you can use when in dimmly lit areas. The built-in rechargable lithium-ion battery is a great feature and should save me alot of $ in battery costs (well that is if it lasts the 5-7 years Iomega says it should ). Aside from song playing capabilities, the HipZip also works great in playing other forms of audio such as audio books which are obtainable through sites such as ... and functions great as a portable zip drive for any type of file. I have heard complaints that you simply can't hold that many MP3 songs on a 40 MB disc (roughly 9-12 songs). My advice is to use the Musicmatch or Windows Media Player software (provided to you with the HipZip)and convert your cd music into wma files which are half the size of regular MP3 files with the same audio quality. There is also a plug-in for the Windows Media Player (available for free from microsoft)that will allow you to make a wma file copy from your existing Mp3s. This will double the amount of songs you can hold on a disc.
