Summary: POC
Review: This Mp3 plyer, when I bought it, was amazing. I could put several cds onto one zip disk. But, recently, it's harder to get it to turn on. It has many flaws with the design, and disks don't always stay in the little sliver of space. I also had to have 3 replacements in my warrenty period, and since the warrent has run out, I have to find a new mp3 player. This is a decent player with poor quality music and pricy extra zip disks.

Summary: Great... for what it is.
Review: I recieved the HipZip player last Christmas as a present. I hurridly ripped open the wrapping to find a stylish MP3 player, and immediatley fell in love with it. But as I started to use the player more and more, I realized that the product has its fair share of faults as well.

+Pros+

Sound Quality: This is absolutely stunning. The HipZip was able to produce delicate highs and smooth lows that made my collection of 128-bit MP3s sound nearly identical to their CD-quality counterparts.

Design: Although it took a little bit to get used to navigating the different screens, the button layout and functionality were very good. I liked the detail of the player's screen (as well as the backlight feature), and was able to scan songs and set options with ease.

-Cons-

Clunkiness: This player is about the size of a soda can, and that includes all dimensions; this thing is bulky! The HipZip is just small enough to fit into your pocket, but it bulks out and is uncomfortable. Unless you're a student who constantly carries around a backpack, or you don't mind holding it a bit, you will probably become annoyed soon enough.

Clik! Disks: The media format of the player was a tradeoff, but seemed to be more of a hassle than anything. These things are pretty exensive for 40 MB, and don't store much music (30-45 minutes, about). When the player acesses them, it takes a bit and makes annoying noises (annoying to others much more than you, I have found out). The disks have many benefits too, don't get me wrong, but I would like to see either bigger storage or cheaper versions.

=Overall= All in all, I have found that as far as MP3 players go, this is definitley up there. It has incredible sound, a format that isn't too bad, and a great layout. But the amount of songs on each disk, and the clunkiness of the player, makes it an unpracticle chore to use. If you can't handle the size and storage for whatever reason, I would eitiher invest in a CD player (possibly with MP3 capability), an iPod, or a smaller, Memmory Stick or Compact Flash based player.

As a note, I sold this player last June, and have happily replaced it with a sony CD player.

Summary: money well spent
Review: i would recomend this mp3 player to anyone who is looking at getting one.the only problem i had with it was after almost a year the screen stoped working, but the fine people at iomega were helpful in that with the great warrenty this product comes with they just replaced this player with a brand new one. the idea of having the disks is great so you dont have to keep downloading new music, unlike those mp3 players with the internal memory.the disks memory is great too, each disk holds a little more than 2 cds.the sound this thing kicks out is awseom.the headphones the player came with are okay, but when i started using sony head phons with bass the sound quality and volune were greatly improved.the player is also full of options others just dont have.the backlight is perfectly bright to help you see the screen in the dark.the best part is on the iomega websight you can download the latest firmware to even further improve the options and versitiliy.usb download time from the computer is quick and easy.for all those windows media users out there you will be glad to know you dont even have to use the software that comes with the player(even though it also works nicley).all in all this is a great mp3 player for the money and won let you down.

Summary: a decent player, but with a few major problems
Review: i bought one of these a couple years ago and certainly got my use out of it until i unfortunately lost it. but here's what i learned to like and dislike about it during that time:

first of all, on the good side, it's a very solid, quality-built player (mine took quite a beating and still worked fine). the buttons and jacks all worked fine and never stuck. i really liked the rechargable battery that i could plug in when i got home and unplug to take to work. it had a bunch of extra features like an equalizer and playlists but i rarely used the playlists since i could only fit at most 10 songs on a disk. (this typically shrank with usage, see below)

that was a major drawback. the clik disks are cute but too small for my tastes. i believe the latest hipzip supports 80-meg disks which is an improvement. another major problem i had was its incompatibility with certain mp3 files. these were otherwise normal mp3 files that i encoded myself (with itunes) that the hipzip would play a minute of, then do a sort of stuttering sound and skip to the next song. not only that, but now that song was completely ignored by the hipzip and i couldn't play it again! and this was fairly common, perhaps 1 in 50 songs had this problem.

another few minor issues i had was the fact that the carrying case badly scratches the paint off the back of the player, you have to hold the play button in for several seconds just to turn the thing on (and hold stop in to turn it off) and it has to read the disk each time you skip a track (i.e. it won't let you hit the 'forward' button three times and skip three tracks, you have to wait for it to finish reading the file before you can hit the button again).

another thing to keep in mind is that this is NOT a solid state player. it does have a spinning disk, but in my experience it never skipped (and was quick to load songs), so this shouldn't be an issue unless you plan on being very violent with it.

also, transfering files was very easy since the clik disks showed up just like any other removable drive on my mac, and i just dragged the files over to it (as such, the disks can store any non-mp3 files as well, but don't plan on storing much on 40 megs).

all in all, the hipzip is an mp3 player that works (but just barely).

Summary: Hip RULES
Review: I have had this player for over a year now and it has worked great, but it did stop for no reason a few times, I thought my battery was going till I opened it up and had a look inside. The data cable had slipped out of the drive unit, it has worked well ever since! It is over a year old and alive and kicking I love it and I hope it lives longer I love the 4 disks I have. I will go on using this MP3 till the sad day of it's death!...

Summary: Excellent Product
Review: I recommend this unit very highly. Except for a small problem in rejecting the disks from the unit, a problem fixed with a better spring, the advantages outway this disadvanrage. A good solid unit.

Summary: Good for a little while
Review: I received this MP3 player as a gift from my parents about two years ago after I had done quite a bit of research. I really enjoyed the player for quite awhile, it worked well, gave me good sound and everything, but then, it stopped working. I tried getting the new firmware, which was very hard to get to upload onto the player and that didn't help. I don't use it anymore because it is too much of a hassle. I think my player might just have been a lemon, but I guess I will never know.

Summary: Has good features...
Review: I like the rechargeable batteries and also the 40 MB zip disks...but the player does have problems. It doesn't seem to be relibable enough. My player keeps turning itself off for no reason. This happens while i am jogging, so i don't know if thats the cause of it (it shouldn't be).

Summary: Great product
Review: This is a great portable player. It's highly versatile, I often used it as a bridge between my laptop and my work computer. The secret of this little device is that it's a portable battery operated Pocket ZIP drive. While 40 Mb isn't much, it handles whatever project being worked on easily. And when you want, put away the laptop, and change disks and listen to your music.

Summary: Not worth its price and problems!!!
Review: I would NOT recommend this to anyone looking for an mp3 player. When i purchased it in july of last year it was great(except for the price). I liked the pocket disks idea but after a mear 6 and a half months later it broke down. The player wont read the disks. it just says to insert disk.also it has an internal problem ( the disks bent the metal inside). I hope you like getting a splitting headache because trying to have it fixed was just a big one. First i took it to the store i purchased it from and i had to pay ten dollars for them to TRY to fix it. THREE months later after they had it sitting there they told me that they could not fix it and that it wasnt their problem to deal with. I wont mention any store names for their sake. Next i emailed the company about 15 times trying to get answers. Dont get me wrong , they were wonderful helping me and all but it is such a big hassle tryin to pry a measly limited one year warranty out of them. As i have said before dont waste your money. If you do buy one i beg you to get the best warranty possible. If i can save you money i will be happy for you.
