Summary: THE BEST
Review: Wow, I can't even describe how great this is. It is my first mp3 player and the best thing i have ever bought. Mine came with two discs i don't know how many this one comes with ... . This is a great price! Eeach disc hold about 13 songs for me. The wma format is much smaller than the mp3 format usually. You can change the format with music match jukebox wich comes with it. The head phones that come with it aren't that good though i suggest buying better ones. The player doesnt skip at all, never i have dropped it many times and it hasn't skipped or broken. I even play basketball with it. Iomega's help is awesome too, i was playing basketball and put it on my dad's car cuz it was raining and he drove off and it got ran over. It was surprisingly not that broken, yet still was far to ruined to have it work. So i emailed iomega's return center and they are going to send me a replacement for fgree!!! It wasn't even their fault. Now thats service. It also very very durable. You can do anything with it. One problem though is that after 30 seconds of it being paused or stopped it automatically turns off. This can get annoying when someone is telling you something, you pause to hear wat they r saying and then wen you go back u hav to turn it on and and find where u left off. Otherwise it is the greatest thing ever!!!!

Summary: Iomega HipZip - Not For Me!
Review: I purchased an Iomega HipZip after much researching and comparison shopping. I liked the features of rechargeable batteries and unlimited, inexpensive music storage (via the 40MB pocket zip clik! disks). However, the main purpose for my purchase of an mp3 player-- continuous music to listen to during 2-3 mile runs. After using it for 1 week, I returned it. First of all, (and this IS a first since I have never heard any complaints about this one!) the HipZip consistently failed to record 2 or 3 complete songs on each disk. It would start a song, play about 30 seconds of it and then play the next track. I found this very annoying - especially since the same song could be played in its entirety when the disk was played from the computer!?! The sound WAS excellent, except for the loud glich and pop noises that occurred every so often (especially those pops, they went right through my head!). Forget the carry-along concept. This thing weighs a ton cannot be attached to any moving body parts! It bounced and slammed the whole way. The clip that is attached to the case is not strong enough to hold up the unit. Changing disks while running proved to be a challenge; and you can't carry a supply of disks when running (nor would you want to-only making the thing even heavier!) On the positive side, the sound was very good, it never skipped, the rechargeable batteries worked fine and lasted a long time. Copying music onto the disks is VERY easy. But keeping in mind the heaviness of both the unit and the price tag ..., the negatives of the song-skipping and poor portability outweigh the positives for me. I guess I'll keep looking!

Summary: Finally a economical, reliable mp3 player for active people!
Review: I have waited to purchase a mp3 player because I was not willing to pay $100+ for a 64mb memory pack. I wanted more flexibility. I wanted to have a large amount of music at my fingertips. Solid state memory, because of it's pricing was not the option. Additionally, I didn't want to get something that would skip when I go running. Because I do use my mp3 player when I run, size was an issue as well. The HipZip meets all of those requirements. It's about time someone filled that gaping hole in the mp3 player market. Up to this point, there has not been a good solution to my problem. Thanks Iomega!

Summary: Now an unqualified success
Review: I bought this player about 4 or 5 months ago and have been using it continuously. The recent firmware upgrade (March) has fixed all the niggles about it that would have made me give it 3 or 4 stars originally, such as shutting off after 30 seconds of non-use, not being able to step back to the beginning of the current song, not being able to use the play list to jump to songs, etc. All of this stuff has now been fixed (plus some new features), and using the player is now a lot smoother and easier.Luckily, all the previous qualities have been preserved - outstanding sound quality, durability, cheap cost of the disks. I bought one of the 10 packs from Iomega directly, which gives me a total of 480Mb of disk space (including the 2 that came with the player). I usually get 8-10 songs on a disk. Inserting the disks is sometimes a bit tricky, but otherwise they hold up fine and have never skipped. While the player is perhaps a bit on the large side compared to the solid-state players, I love being able to buy the disks so cheaply, and it makes a handy USB-based portable media drive for my Titanium Powerbook - I don't have to carry around another zip drive. Files transfer extremely quickly over USB, a couple of seconds for a 3Mb file. Well worth it!

Summary: Great Product or Snake oil
Review: When I first got the hipzip it was great. Easy to use and easy to listen to. The software was installed great. Then the problems started. They didn't start right away but when they came it was fast and hard. Numerous times The player didn't recognize the disc. It would stop and start again. Then recently the battery didn't recharge. So, now I have to wait for Iomega to send a new one that hopfully works

Summary: Don't buy if you plan on using it for running or exersize
Review: I bought this MP3 player mainly for running and other aerobic activity. When I was out running, it totally just locked up on me and the reset button would not even work. I had to wait for the battery to die in order for it to turn off. I called Iomega and they sent me out a new one with-in a few days. First time I was out running with the new one, the same thing happened. Iomega replaced it again saying that it isn't meant for any strenuous activity (opposite from what the web page says). I also don't like the fact that you can't replace the batteries. If you're out and that things runs out - tough cookies!! I sold the new one on Ebay and bought a Intel Pocket Concert which is absolutely awesome!!!

Summary: Close but no cigar
Review: Having owned the Iomega Hip Zip for 2 weeks, the one warning I give to all prospective buyers is 40MB is not enough space. It is enough to hold only 7 decent quality MP3 tracks, and although the lesser quality WMA can be used to store around 15 tracks, the sound deterioration is frustrating. The Hip Zip has the potential to be a wonderful product. The zip disks are a convenient way of storing music, and the player itself, whilst being a little large and heavy, is robust and comes supplied with a useful belt attachment. However, my advice is to wait for the 100MB Hip Zip. The 40MB capacity of the current player just isn't enough, and more of your time will be spent attempting the impossible (squeezing 20 quality tracks onto a disk) than actually listening to the music. Be patient and wait...100MB is on the way.

Summary: A good all around player.
Review: Bottom line, aside from the earphones (which personnaly hurts my ears) the HIPZIP is a great player and should be ranked one of the highest, I wouldn't also be saying this if it hadn't been for Iomega's customer service department. A few weeks ago my player crashed and wouldn't come online so i called their department in one phone call they told me that i would have to send mine back and they would fix the problem so i did and instead of a letter saying some excuse why they couldn't fix it i found an entirely new player. Since they couldn't find out what was wrong they gave me a new player, now if that isn't putting the customer first priority then i don't know what is.

Review: A decent little device. I had a Rio 800 for a few days and returned it because I didn't want to spend $150+++ for another 64 megs of memory, and really wasn't that impressed with the sound. I was well aware of the quirks and limitations of the HipZip, based on reviews listed here on Amazon, but decided I could live with them. Sure, it's a bit inconvenient to be limited to 40 megs and have to switch disks, but it's more inconvenient to be limited to 64 or 128 megs and have to get to your computer to dump and load files. What I really want is an MP3 player that's small enough to wear on my wrist, has a battery that recharges in 5 minutes and lasts 40 hours, and has 128 gigs of onboard memory that's expandable using memory cards that cost $1.00 each. Until such a machine is invented, this is a great buy and great option!

Summary: Fantastic Player
Review: I'll agree with most here about the high quality sound and durability of this player, and the cheap media. A couple of other points, though. Works flawlessly with Macs, and with iTunes. Also, there is some delay (more than with Compactflash) when fast-forwarding/rewinding through songs; it is, after all, a hard disk. Finally, could with for more equalization settings (currently Pop, Rock, Disco...) Had it for 3 months, and 1 crash (easy paper clip reset). Belt clip case is wonderful.
