Summary: Very happy with this monitor - so far so good!
Review: After a lot of research we chose the Samsung monitor to replace one which had blown out on our Micron PC (1998 model). Running Windows 95, even though we have an excellent system with more than adequate components, we still were concerned about compatability. We had read excellent reviews of this product not only here but in various PC magazines.

The monitor was easy to install, and detected by Plug&Play so there was no set-up required. A few adjustments once we figured out the on-screen-display menus, but once adjusted, we are delighted with the quality of the images and text. We are certainly glad we chose this.

There are a few things we discovered which might be helpful to others:
1) there was a smell of "plastic newness" (best I can describe it) for the first day or two. We were very concerned something was burning inside, but after searching the internet, we found others who had reported the same issue and it had resolved quickly for them as well. So that is something to be aware of! Otherwise it's scary, especially if you have ever had a monitor sizzle and spark and blow up for you!

2)I could not install the specific driver for this monitor from the CD because it was not ON the CD! I browsed the entire CD but found drivers for other models, not this one. However, since the P&P set it up perfectly, I did not need a driver. I assume I could have downloaded one from Samsung's web site if I really needed it.

3) We were very happy to see a 3 year warranty/parts and labor. This is more than for many other monitors. Hope we never need to use it :-)

4)We purchased a monitor replacement cable at the same time, thinking (because it was listed as an accessory) that we would need it. However, the monitor has a non-removeable cable and the purchased cable would not have worked anyway (Amazon happily accepted the return).

We were also impressed with Amazon's handling of a shipping issue, and appreciated that very much!

It is a great looking monitor for a great price.

Summary: BUYER BEWARE!!!! DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT FROM AMAZON!!
Review: Here's why: I bought this to replace a monitor that seemed to be going haywire--turns out it was fine. I tried to cancel the order but wasn't permitted (it was too far in the process in less than 24 hours.) I didn't want to pay $40 tp return it so it sat for 3 months until I added a new computer for my business. After a week it started going in and out of focus, rendering it unusable. Although it was defective, Amazon wouldn't take it back (it was more than 30 days) and Samsung would replace it only with a charge of $40.

The bottom line: $140 monitor I could have bought at the mall and returned for a refund, $70 in shipping and days of hassle. I am an Amazon stockholder and I hate to say it but I would never buy a monitor or any electronics this way again.

As for the monitor itself, when it works--it's ok, nothing special and certainly not worth this aggravation.

Summary: Flat screen, but weak picture quality
Review: I am perplexed by the amount of high reviews for this monitor. I agree the screen is very flat, the text is clear, but it starts to suffer when changed to 1280x1024. I see little pixel-like squares in the outer edges of the screen, and the letters start to look blurry and the hz drops to only 60. It gets better when brought down to 1152x864 and the hz rating improves to 75...I am returning the monitor for something better as soon as I research one in the same price range.

Summary: great for the price
Review: I bought this unit as a lower cost secondary unit for my home and was surprised by the high quality picture. This was the only unit that I could use on my KVM switch that did not have ghosting for the text. The manual and CD was excellent! I recomend this unit for anybody on a budget.

Summary: As vibrant as you will get for this price
Review: I got one of these for our design studio. It is connected to a machine that we use only for scanning and colour correction of scanned images prior to sending the images into production. For that reason, we didn't need a larger monitor, but we needed the flat screen trinitron. This was really a good purchase. The price was good and the quality is really good!

Summary: Geometry problem
Review: I have adjusted this monitor via the front control display over and over. The monitor has a slight vertical bow problem that there is no known to me adjustment for. The text lines do not appear to run perfectly straight across the screen. The monitor brightness is too bright even at minimum. I returned it.

Summary: Price good, picture quality not so good.
Review: I purchased this monitor along with a Samtron 76DF this past summer for two cpu's I use primarily for the internet and a 3D renderfarm. The Samtron is decent but the Samsung picture was blurry and out of focus, so I returned it. In the future, I will stay with Sony and NEC which have both performed well for me.

Because of several bad experiences with Samsung products, and problems receiving the rebates which were offered on those products, I no longer consider Samsung when purchasing electronics.
