Review: ... when I opened the box at home the first thing that stroke me was the big sheet over the screen telling me the display works best at 60 Hz vertical refresh rate; my eyes are very sensitive and I couldn't possibly consider working on 60 Hz on CRT; LCD is slightly better, but I can still see it, so 60 Hz is simply out of choices; anyway, I checked the book and it reassured me the monitor covers up to 75 Hz.

Alas, when I ran it, it had these tiny letter shadows that make you either change video cards or monitors; they go away if you decrease brighnest and contrast or color, but then so goes the quality of the image.

I'm running XP, I'm professional who has changed MANY displays in his life and I know this is not anti-aliasing or any other problem related to settings; it's a hardware limit of either the card or the monitor; sometimes even just a matter of incompatibility.

Alas I don't have another card handy, but I tend to trust GeForce II MX is good enough. Until now (and actually right now) it's running on 1024x768x75 Hz on Samsung SyncMaster 15'' and it's simply great. All I needed was to go to 1280x1024.

I have to also warn you the paper over the screen is telling truth: it DOES work best at 60 Hz vertical refresh; at 70 and 72 it's an obvious drop in quality; surprisingly, at 75 it's slightly better, but still not as good as at 60.

If your eyes are sensitive like mine maybe you're better off to search for another one like I will. Again, it might be the card or the combination, but the fact is tomorrow I'm returning this one.

Best luck with your search!

Review: Another reviewer said that he could 'see' the refresh running at 60 hertz (what is recommended). HOW CAN YOU WHEN THERES NO SCAN?! Take a digital camera and view the monitor through the digital viewfinder. You wont see the scan lines running up the screen like you would on a CRT monitor.

I always notice when a CRT monitor's refresh is set to anything below 85 hertz because my eyes ARE sensitive. Running an LCD at 60 hertz is not comparable because our eyes do NOT see the SCAN. THERE ISNT ONE!

Summary: Simply wonderful....
Review: As someone coming from the world of CRTs, a flat panel seemed expensive. I thought it would be worth it. I am, after all, a professional who stares at his monitor all day. And it was definately worth it.

With a 400:1 contrast ratio and 1280x1024 native resolution, it is very easy on the eyes. The on-screen controls are also nice and easy to use.

A nice (but not mentioned) feature is the ability to toggle 'expand' on or off -- that is, will an image coming to the monitor at a lower resolution be "stretched" to fill the screen, or will it be shown simply using a smaller screen area.

My biggest complaint is that the auto-adjust of the monitor doesn't work well in pure-text mode (i.e. old DOS modes) unless there is text that really fills the screen. But that's a truly minor problem for a display of this quality.

Summary: Very Pleased
Review: Got my new NEC monitor and am extremely pleased. It also included software which could be used to adjust font and icon sizes which sometimes become tiny when going to an LCD screen. This monitor is extremely easy to adjust and look at. It's also a great value for the money.

Review: I bought my 1700v at the steal of a lifetime--an after-christmas sale @Circuit City, where my LCD was $.... I took it home, hooked it up to my brand new ATI All-In-Wonder Radeon card, and was blown away!!! The colors are crisp and sharp, It bright without being too bright, and my eyes are never strained. I also use the 1700v as a TV display and the contrast from an actual TV is amazing. I'll never buy another TV again when my computer monitor can do this!!! I HIGHLY recommend this monitor!

Review: I bought this monitor after searching it seems like forever.
I wanted a monitor for gaming but everything I read said that LCD's were not for gaming. Well I bought this monitor and I am extremely happy with it. The graphics are pure and clear. I am playing Asheron's Call 2 at the highest graphics settings and everything is crystal clear and nothing is lost. I am still amazed at how clear and vivid everything is. My computer is used for 90% gaming and I am as happy as I think I can be with this Monitor! I would not hesitate to recomend this 17 Inch LCD monitor!

Summary: Superb quality and equally great-looking!!
Review: I had gone for the NEC basically for two reasons, brand name and price. It had taken me 10 minutes to hook everything up and get it running. It has a nice auto adjust feature and the monitor is very fast. It also comes with a free software download called 'liquidview', which essentially makes the icons and fonts bigger at the highest resolution, so even at 1280x1024, you don't have to squint your eyes. For the price, this monitor is an excellent buy. The picture quality is superb, and at only 14 lbs and a 3-yr labor and parts warranty, you can't really go wrong.

Summary: Love the LCD
Review: I had one of these at work for 6 months and have been dying to get one at home. The image quality is excellent and the screen is easy on the eyes. I had read some things about LCD's being bad for video games. So far playing Wolfenstein and Max Payne I have no complaints. Actually the image quality and brightness is superior to my 7 year old, 17" CRT.

One knock, but I was not surprised, was the quality of video on the monitor. I popped in a DVD to see what it was like and this was one area where my old monitor has an edge. I guess with video the slower refresh is more evident. I still love the monitor and give it an enthusiastic 5 stars.
