Summary: Perfect picture and great deal!!!
Review: I also purchased my computer from J&R in Manhattan but I found no problems with mine. The image when using it as a computer monitor is the best ever because its shown in High definition, and used as a tv monitor it's great. Being it's an Lcd it's not meant to be viewed right next to it. If you stand atleast 3-4 feet away you'll see a huge difference and an excellent picture. I have mine hooked up to my digital cable with and s-video line and the image is just as good as my 36" sony tv. I would recomend this just because of it's great price, plus there is a(...). So hurry and get one tommorrow.

Summary: Cool industrial design, poor engineering.
Review: I bought this monitor from j and r over the phone which saved my 10 dollars on my purchase and since i live in nyc i picked it up from the store, downtown. I was so excited to plug it up noticing how beautiful the outside design was beautiful. I hooked everything up and found the picture to be terrible. I fixed the contrast, brightness to the best possible and the picture became a bit more clear however, i still noticed the blurriness whenever there was fast motion and text is still pretty blurry. In addition, the picture is very grainy and does not have much color depth.

I thought maybe it was just the TV, but I was wrong. I used the monitor function, and found the quality of the monitor was even worse! I tested some text by opening an internet explorer window. The text seemed to blur every other character, and when I moved the window around the blurriness would move as well.

Overall, this monitor is mediocre and will be returning it promptly.

Summary: Great Monitor
Review: I just purchased this at a Home Depot for, get this $169. It was on close out. I just got the last of 3 remaining. I thought I would have to get a new video card but didn't. It loaded easy and works perfect. This is a wide screen but for now the picture does not fill in completly. I have a black margin left & right about 1" or so. I have not hooked it up to a TV, I'm just enjoying it off the 10 yr. old Gateway CP. Keep your eye out if this goes on close out. It was not advertised just sitting up in front of the store. So you never know!!

Summary: Quality and versatility...
Review: I live in a studio, so space and functionality are key issues. The Sharp LCD TV Monitor 17 took care of my problems in a big way. I have my PS2, Xbox, cable TV, and PC all hooked up at once. I watch TV on the picture-in-picture mode while working on the computer. Then, with a touch of a button I toggle over to play a round of Xbox or PS2. For gaming, watching DVD's, and high-res computer graphics this thing is incredible. For strictly watching TV it's decent. As for the sound, the built in speakers are definitely acceptable.

Although I thought the styling looked bland at the store, it looks sleek and modern at home. Glare seemed to be an issue at the store as well due to the protective cover and store lighting. Not a problem at home, in fact, the protective cover seems to make images brighter than most other LCD TVs.

I looked at just about every other flat panel monitor and LCD TV, but none had the combination of quality, resolution, inputs, functionality and price.

By the way, you need to take some time and adjust the settings correctly according to the manual when first hooking the thing up. Another reviewer clearly failed to do this. It's easy and necessary to get the most out of the monitor.

Summary: Good picture. Nice design.
Review: I purchased this monitor/tv for use as tv in the bedroom. Hook up was a breeze. Initially we hooked up a Sony Playstation to use as a DVD player, but the picture was poor. The images would blur if there was lots of movement. We tried our newer DVD player and the picture improved dramatically. Sound is good too. It is a nice sleak design and has a good remote w/ lots of options. Would recommend for tv or monitor. Purchased through Costco online for under $400.

Summary: Excellent LCD Monitor and TV
Review: I recently purchased this monitor, and it has been working exceptionally well. It is a very versatile monitor, and is especially useful for tight areas where space can be limited. I enjoy the many features this monitor offers. The setup for the monitor went smoothly; however, I would recommend reading the manual to make sure everything was set up properly. I realized that my video card doesn't support the 1280 x 768 screen resolution, so I decided to use the 1024 X 768. I would recommend anyone interested in purchasing this monitor to check their video card to make sure it supports 1280 X 768 resolution. I have watched several DVDs, and the monitor has worked very well.

Summary: OK performance, but did not last.
Review: This monitor delivered sufficient picture quality for watching DVDs in the bedroom (the reason I bought it). I did notice artifacts in the video that I should not have been getting with S-Video or component hookup from a DVD player, but at a viewing distance of more than 3 feet, the artifacts were not noticeable. The artifacts I noticed seemed to be due to the way the chrominance part of the signal was being processed. When a color bar test pattern was displayed from a test DVD, there were nasty composite-like "dot crawl" artifacts in the color transitions, even when using S-Video or component hookups. There seemed to be a lot of color dithering going on in the pictures from DVD viewed through S-Video or component cables.

My only other complaint was with the sharpness control. Running the sharpness control at any setting other than the lowest produced too much "edge enhancement". The lowest setting eliminated the false edges, but may have softened the picture more than it should have. I'd liked to have had more of a choice of settings between the first two sharpness settings.

The monitor no longer works. A couple of months ago, while watching, the picture froze up and the unit did not respond to any of the buttons. I unplugged it and it would no longer power up until about an hour later. Last week, this happened again and I've been unable to power up the unit since.

The unit was purchased on May 1, 2004 and is already dead as of early November 2004. It's still under manufacturer's warranty for parts and labor, but it's a hassle to have to deal with this, since I'll always wonder if it will break again in the future after being repaired.
