Summary: the irony of things
Review: After I came across a 3-lb notebook, I was reborn into a world of heavenly accessibility. In addition to keeping the most updated files with me all the time, I can also remote terminal to my work computer to access archived files.

But after a few hours of usage, the hard-drive's high-pitch hum would start to stick to my head, and doesn't go away. So now I'm considering getting a 4-lb monitor to remotely terminal to my 3-lb notebook.

And gosh, how am I supposed to use this thing without a keyboard and a touchpad?

Summary: Why not a Tablet PC?!? Or even a cheap laptop?
Review: Although this seems like a cool idea, why would I spend over $1,000 for a wireless monitor and stylis when I could get a cheap laptop for less money? If you really want the functionality of a tablet, Tablet PC's w/ Windows XP tablet edition do not cost much more than this device.

Summary: Could be executed allot better
Review: Could be executed allot better

Thats a great idea I was waiting for someone to execute for a few years now. Finally its been done. Only two stars do to the really poor execution.

Only 800x600 resolution. I believe the pics on the site show a higher one. This is a very small size and will make working very crowded and compressed. Most people I know use at least 1024x768 and many like me use 1280x1024 or higher.

Windows XP requirements. If only the world was using only one version of windows but the reality is allot of users able to spend the $... for this extra toy are using more advanced OSes like Windows 2000. It should be relatively easy thing to write a server application for any OS. Who is going to downgrade their OS just to have a privilege to purchase a $.... toy.

The $... price is allot more then it should be. This needs to be more towards $...-... dollar range to be a successful product in any way.

Hopefully in time there will be newer more advanced (functional) versions at much lower prices. Until then a notebook will do and you can get a fine machine for the same price not just a screen.

Summary: Net meeting on a wireless laptop can do exactly that
Review: Don't be fooled by the high-tech look. A low priced laptop computer running MS Netmeeting can do exactly what smart display is meant to do. Simply set up you desktop pc ready with remote desktop control using NetMeeting. You will have full access to your PC's desktop! VNC is another way to do it, but why bother when it comes with your MS PC bundle?

Summary: A Solution without a problem
Review: for the same $, get a laptop- with XP you can use Remote Desktop to control another XP PC. For about 1/2 the cost, get an Ipaq with 802.11b, and use terminal services for the same thing.

In either case, you get a device that can run on it's own, so your other PC doesn't have to be on all the time. This is just a "dumb terminal" with color graphics and a touch screen. cut the price by 75%, and you might have something worthwhile.

Summary: Much Too Expensive
Review: For the same price as this unit, Amazon.com sells a fully loaded Toshiba notebook. By adding an inexpensive Linksys router, the notebook can do everything that this unit will do, and much more. For one thing, you can use the notebook outside of the house, run all of your PC applications, play games, etc. Plus, the notebook isn't dependent upon having your main PC up and running, so if somebody is playing a game or rebooting the PC, you could still use the notebook.

I guess somebody out there thinks this thing will revolutionize the world, but I don't see the point of buying one.

Summary: Great innovation
Review: I am in IT profession, the less number of computers the better. I agree it is a product on its owned, but if you have to compare to cheap laptop. I can think of many advantages over laptop using some sort of remote control software to your main computer. First of all, another computer (laptop) just to do remote control is too much in maintenance, extra software licenses and extra hardware. With this Air Panel, you only deal with one computer instead of two. Second, you only need to upgrade one main computer.

The Air Panel is a better solution to have powerful processor at the base main computer and portable at the same time.

Giving time, when LCD display gets even cheaper and thinner couple with wireless technology. There will be so much application people can dream up. I can see Doctor use this panel in hospital room instead of the PDA using expanded wireless coverage

I have been thinking install a computer in the car, RV or boat. This panel will make the installation easy. I put the computer in a storage compartment. Mount the display wherever I want.

At this offering from Viewsonic, the 10 inches resolution is too low for today application although the 10 inches size is prefect for automotive application.

I think this wireless everything is the future. Powerful base station (computer) with wireless device attach to it.

Summary: Cool Cool Cool
Review: I am sitting in my recliner, watching Buffy and tapping this message out. The handwriting recognition is only fair, but the keyboard works fine. The wireless works great and was easy to setup - applying sp1 took longer than the setup did. We have been able to get it to work with both of the computers at home, AND it even was able to access my work machine via terminal services! I am using it at home with my existing wireless network - no problems. I hooked it up to my PC, but did not leave it that way - my old CRT was better. I was not happy with the quality when using it as my primary monitor, but it is great for portable uses. Very cool device.

Summary: GOOD INVESTMENT
Review: I think allot of you writing these reviews do not have the money to buy one and are jealouse. No it is not a laptop. No it is not a tablet pc. It is almost a grand below a tablet pc. Which only packs a 12" monitor at the most. Us that have laptops and have to copy data back and forth all the time know how cumbersome that can be. I think this product is a step in the right direction. Of course it is pricey it's new and new technology is always pricey. The thing works almost perfect. I have no problem surfing the internet or playing games. Granted this is not the best graphics machine and it does have video playback issues. Laptops are not gaming machines either. This serves a completely different purpose for people who want to stay home and not be constrained to the computer desk. I only gave it four stars because the video problem. Audio playback for me is fine. I am typing this write now from the monitor I don't find it that cumbersome. Anyone who wants mobility and all their same programs and files on one location this is a must have!!!

Summary: Please...
Review: I think the people who are giving this thing a high rating are just not tech savvy. It seems they don't understand that any laptop running the free VNC software and a wireless client will do everything the airpanel will do and much much more for a fraction of the cost. You can have your laptop display your desktop screen with extreme ease using VNC. It doesn't even have to be a good laptop as all the cpu work is done at the desktop. I encourage anyone thinking of buying the airpanel to do some research on software such as VNC and see what us tech savvy consumers are talking about before throwing your cash away.
