Rating: Summary: Buy Samsung at your own RISK Review: I bought a Samsung flat-panel LCD television in March, and it the panel went dead in April. I brought it to a one of Samsung's certified dealers for repair, and waited and waited. Finally in May, I was told that the the television panel was indeed defective and couldn't be fixed, so the manufacturer was obligated to replace it under the warranty. It's now September, and guess what, I'm still waiting for the replacement. Buy from Samsung at your own risk. From my own experience, Samsung does stand by their products. For a few dollars more, buy one of the better, more reliable brands.
Rating: Summary: Great monitor for great price Review: I bought my 170N for the PC I was building, and I've yet to regret my purchase. The thin bezel makes it look expensive compared to monitors with loads of plastic around them. The colors are beautiful. However, the whites look silver and vice-versa often. Black looks glitchy but it doesn't deter from performance really. It does go into an energy-save mode, which is a plus. Overall, good buy.
Rating: Summary: Amazing Review: I bought this monitor to replace a 19" CRT. I bought this particular monitor because of an April 3, 2003 review in PC Magazine on flat panel displays. This was viewed as what "should be your next display," ranked #1 among all of those reviewed. Somehow, in this very short couple of months, there is now a 171N and 172N (for more money). This 170N remains terrific. This was a good choice. Regarding the CRT contrast: Powered by a Thinkpad 21, I could only get 8 bit color at 1200x1600 and only 16-bit color at 1280x1024. On this Samsung, I get 1280x1024 at 16bit. The screen is *very* bright, actually too bright at anything other than the lowest settings.
