Summary: THE 19" MONITOR THAT COULDN'T
Review: Hello to all. I bought a KDS AV-195TF 19" monitor at bestbuy $399 12/01/00 on 05/08/02 there was a serious display problem all went pink. Well I took advantage of your advance ship replacement and was sent another monitor and all was well until about a month ago I started hearing a hearing a high pitch sound that would come and go. Until now 11/15/04 when my monitor went blank. Two monitors dead within two years each. I had several 15" to 17" monitors that I've given away to family which are 6 to 10 years old and are still working fine. I emailed customer service (only because when called there # during business hours posted the recording said "We are closed please call during business hours" ? ) they emailed me tech supports number. I called he asked if I was getting a pattern on screen I told him nothing was coming up just a black screen. He said a memory chip of some kind was out in the monitor and he'd have to transfer me back to customer service. They told me that the monitor was out of warranty I told him I knew it was but I needed to get it fixed. Albert at customer service said they only deal with warranty items only. If the item is out of warranty I would not be able to get it fixed there. I asked who would be able to service my monitor I was told to look for someone local. When I asked his full name his exact words Albert at customer service nor would he give supervisors name, I asked who would be able to service my monitor. I asked is this the way KDS does there customers I was told they are no longer in business. I went to there website and there is a working website for them. That is still selling there product and praising there amazing customer service & support. I don't know if I'll ever get it fixed but please warn readers & future buyers of KDS that there on their own once warranty is up. Two new monitors 2 years old each and twice I've had lemons.

Summary: Really into gaming?
Review: ...Initially I had doubts about a small name like KDS, especially since I was big on gaming. But after seeing the specs for 85hz refresh rate AT UNBELIEVABLE 1600x1200, I grabbed this sucker. Am I glad, now paired with the geforce3, I can play games like black and white and unreal torunament at 1600x1200 flicker free for hours without stressing my eyes. Imagine the detail of the little village people when you pump the resolution that high. As for Max Payne, let's just say you can almost grab the bullets as they zooms by.
Ok, enough of the gaming stuff, for those who are into text and graphics, be warned that this monitor exhibits slight blurs in text quality at above 1024x768 but remains readable up to but not including 1600x1200. Nonetheless, if you are playing games, it doesn't matter and the sharp quality in games alone warrants my recommendation. Gamer to gamer, take my advice, you won't regret buying this sucker.

Summary: Cheap but with drawbacks.
Review: I am living in korea right now and see this monitor all the time. (They make it right here)

And I can tell you this is like a lottery or something. The monitor is awesome or a dud. Actually all 19 inch monitors are having consistency problems due to lack of technology.

So if you get a weird monitor with blue spots and crooked sides which won't go away how much you try to adjust, go get a replacement. Odds are it'll be better. But know that you cant get a PERFECT screen. It is basically impossible with the given technology.

Good luck.

Good points: Cheap, very bright colors are awesome, supports high frequencies.

Bad: Focus is unclear at high resolutions. 2 horizontal line go across it (all aperture grill monitors have this) And most importantly you need to play the lottery.

Review: I bought my AV-195TF originally in Nov 2000 only to have it replaced in Feb 2001 after it got to the point that it was very blurry and not correctable even with tech support. Now that one has gone bad. (almost a year to the day I replaced my 1st one) It keeps popping and refreshing itself and then BANG a loud snap from inside it's case and now the entire center is one big blur!! KDS does have a GREAT support system though HOWEVER They do NOT have anymore AV-195TF's as Sony quit sending them Trinitron® CRT's. They are even out of refurb's of this unit and are replacing them with NON-TrueFlat 21" monitors.
My replacement will be the VS-21e so I will write a review on it after I receive it and try it out for awhile. The KDS AV-195TF does have a very good screen rez and colors while it works though. I will miss my True Flat Screen Though!!!

Summary: I'll Never get a new monitor...
Review: I bought the KDS Av-195TF, and since i got it i have been satsifyed. The colors and geometry are great. No fuzzyness, or blury corners like even some of the Sony Trinitrons. I think this is the one of the Top Trinitron monitors. The flat screen makes it easy to sit and read small text for hours, i can play games all day and still my eyes dont get tired. The controls are great too, with one touch, you can have everything Auto-set for you! I reccomend this monitor to everyone, even home users, to gamers, to proffesionals too. Also, KDS has the KARES program, a 3 year instant replacement program, as soon as you report a problem, they will ship you a new one, and without any hassel too. I will never get a new monitor!

Summary: VERY IMPRESSIVE! BUY IT!
Review: I have been looking for a new monitor for some time now and I stubled upon this KDS monitor. This monitor is much better than Samsung's Dynaflat or Viewsonic's Perfectflat lines. This is due to the Trinitron technology which is truly perfectly flat. For what you're getting, the price of this monitor is fabulous. Not very many monitors have Trinitron technology, and even the ones that do (especially Sony) are incredibly expensive. I have spent hours on the computer and this monitor does not strain my eyes at all. The black text on white and the colors look amazing. The digital controls and the interface are very neat, complete, and easy to navigate. This monitor is very versatile and can go to a very high resolution of 1,600 x 1,200. Games will look much better at this resolution if you have the graphics power to do it. The monitor has no glare at all; I have a lamp right next to it. The refresh rate is very fast and I cannot see it no matter how I look at the monitor. There is really nothing wrong with this monitor other than the two very thin lines going across it, but they are very small and are very easy to get used to (plus you can prove that you have a Trinitron monitor :) I heard that KDS is not making this line anymore, so hurry and buy one of these and change the way you think about monitors. Great job KDS!

Summary: Gone through 3 in two years
Review: I just received my third monitor in almost 2 years, the first lasted a month, started flickering and died completely. They sent a replacement, it made a crackling noise within a month, just got around to sending it back and I received this one two days ago. It went out tonight, loud crack and now the middle of the screen is almost too blurry to see. One note, in their 3 year KARES replacement program, they replace your monitor with a REFURBISHED monitor, not a new one. I just put my old monitor in the mail back to them today and I have to call them tomorrow to tell them that this one has died already.

Summary: Was a great monitor... until it died in only 3 years.
Review: I would have given this monitor a 4 or 5 star rating had you asked me a week ago - the picture was always sharp and bright, and the controls are easy enough to use. As of this weekend, however, the monitor was no longer functional (nothing appears on the screen, not even the settings menus). And yes, I tested it with another computer (and tested another monitor with the original computer), and its definitely the monitor. Looks like this is a common problem with KDS monitors, which is a shame. We have other monitors (mostly Dell) that have lasted for upwards of a decade - 3 years for a suppposed high quality monitor is unacceptable. Oh well, time for an LCD I guess.

Summary: Investment on your Eyes
Review: The blur in my eyes finally convinced me it was time to turn off my 14" monitor for good! Thus in searching for a new monitor, eye strain, or rather preventing it, was a major factor. After some research, I decided a Trinitron tube would probably keep me happiest and my eyes the healthiest over the long term. The KDS AV-195TF was the most competitively priced model [for the price]. I must say I am ecstatic I bought it. The picture is beautiful! I run at 1600X1200(85Hz) for 3D gaming and the detail is truly amazing! I dont get "fuzzy eyes" after 4-hour missions of Rogue Spear, Half Life, or Diablo II anymore. Having the space to open 3-4 applications at once is great. It makes surfing the internet on a free service bearable, in fact i don't notice the banner anymore! A friend went out to buy his own KDS trinitron after taking mine for a drive.
