Summary: Disappointed
Review: Had the monitor a year and a half loved it then all of a sudden it has now begun to flicker and is getting worst. Now when i go to buy a new monitor NEC can forget about my business.

Summary: Good for people with bad eyes, but...
Review: I bought this monitor from Dell in Nov or Dec last year (can't remember) as they had it on sale and with free shipping. The monitor certainly is bright, thought it's not a bad thing. The biggest problem with this monitor is that it's a 19" monitor but can't display 1280x1024@85Hz legibly. Text is horribly blurry at that resolution. It looks great at 1024x768 but that is WAY too low for a 19"; everything looks SO huge. My fault for not researching it enough as 1024 is the recommended resolution for this model.

Summary: AWESOME!
Review: I bought this monitor when I built my PC. This thing is great. I work with computers for a living and I've seen some that display text/spreadsheets better, but they were nowhere near this price. Absolutely gorgeous for color pictures and gaming. One of the best buys I've come across.

Summary: Overall a good buy
Review: I can't believe my monitor got here so fast with free shipping. I was really stunned when I saw that it had arrived so early, when I was expecting it weeks later. Great Job amazon! About the monitor, I'm quite pleased with the image quality, games have never looked better for me. I wouldn't recommened this monitor if your not into graphics or playing pc games as reading text on it can be straining on the eyes. I can't wait to see what Half-Life 2 will look like on this monitor!

Summary: Good for a year
Review: I had this monitor for about a year (actually, the first one). It was perfect for daily use. However, it started to flicker right after that. Called the customer service and was told there were three options to get the service of warranty. I chose the one that I could keep having a monitor to use, i.e., they sent me a remanufactured one for free and then I sent mine back to their service center at my costs (30 bucks!!!). I did received the replacement quickly, but it was a real "remanufactured" monitor, dirty screen and flickered a few times a day. Anyway, I decided to keep it as it worked o.k. most of the time. Well, guess what? After about 9 months of moderate use, the second one started to flicker badly again as the first one. The worst thing is that I can not replace it any more because a new warranty that came with the second one says that the warranty period was changed from three years to one year from the purchasing date (that was almost two years ago). It is really a ridiculous policy.

So my recommendation is that this is the right monitor for you if you plan to replace your computer every year, otherwise, stay away from it. My experience, as well as those of other reviewers, does suggest that there is a quality problem with this product.

Summary: Dying monitor
Review: I purchased this monitor 3/2003 and it worked perfectly until last month. It has developed the same problem many other users have reported, it flickers for a couple of moments then the image condenses into a very bright horizontal line (approximatley 1mm) across the center of the screen with all else going black. I was under the impression that the monitor was made in Japan but they are made in China.
I will never buy another NEC/Mitsubishi produst.

Summary: Nice image! Good looking! Great buy!
Review: I upgrade my old 15" CRT to this monitor. The text is very clear unless you turn off the super bright mode. but i can tell you that you don't need SB mode for general use. in my opinion, the SB mode is only for movie playing or gaming. But i don't need the SB mode in any curcumstances. On the other hand, the moniotor's so easy to set up without any problem. no softwares needed. the bottons on the monitor are very easy to use. the outlooking of this monitor is another main reason i buy it. The flat screen looks cool, and match my black case. excellent quality for this price. If you want to save money and not mind it takes more spaces than LCD mon, go for this monior! Why pay a thousand dollars on a LCD monitor when you just care about the quality?

Summary: I'm NOT alone!
Review: I'm shocked after I've seen the reviews for this monitor. I had a shelve on the wall and it fell on my monitor then about 3 months later the monitor started to flicker really bad and to a point where there is a white line in the middle of the screen and the background turned completely black. I thought it was the shelve that killed the monitor but something suspicious is going on, why flicker 3 months after? If something is damaged inside I should've noticed right away. After reading the reviews I started to realise one thing, this monitor only last for about 2 yrs. I had the monitor for about 2 yrs up till when the bad flickering started. So I guess my point is this monitor only last for about 2 yrs average. I would expect a monitor (regardless of it's size) if it's a decent brand should last at least 4 yrs. This is madness!! And this monitor is not cheap! I think I'd still be happy and the monitor would still work for another 4-5 yrs if it wasn't for this stupid NEC FE991SB-BK but other brands like Samsung, ViewSonic, Sony..etc.....People, don't buy NEC monitors with Mitusbishi Tubes..they suck! Or even just NEC. All my friends with other brand monitors all last at least 4 yrs!~!!

OR --- Does all 19" FLAT CRT only last for about 2 yrs? I don't have that kind of money to spend on monitors every 2 yrs. Maybe back to 17" is wiser then?

Summary: Good monitor until it gets some age on it
Review: I'm shocked to read all the reviews complaining of the flicker problem. I absolutely loved this monitor until, after 15 months or so, I started getting awfull flickering/distortion. I guess I understand why the warranty ends after one year. I will not buy another NEC monitor.
