Rating: Summary: Great for gaming but bad at displaying text Review: After doing much research on this monitor I thought it would be a great buy. It's supposedly the new version of the NEC 912SB that was discontinued, and has been highly praised by many in several PC hardware forums I visit. Well, something must be wrong...I'm now on my second Mitsubishi 930SB, and the same problem occurs as it did on the first: blurry text. Running at the recommended resolution of 1280x1024 @85Hz, text is very blurry in the center of the display. It's even worse near the center bottom of the screen. However, both the left and right edges of the screen stay sharp at that resolution. The first one I bought was worse than the second one, and NEC-Mitsubishi tech support told me it was defective and to get it replaced. My thoughts are that it could be a bad batch of these as both were manufactured in November of 2003. I had a 19" Sony E440 prior to this monitor and it didn't have this problem. And I'm using a ATi Radeon 9800 Pro video card so I know this isn't the problem. Other problems with this monitor are bad geometry and bad convergence. The center part of the screen looks "fatter" compared to the edges, which may be the reason for the blurry text. Images look out of proportion and not very sharp if viewing them at the center of the screen. As a Web designer working with graphics, this poses a problem for me. I actually run this monitor at 1280x960 for the proper 4:3 aspect ratio, but it still looks "fat" in the center of the screen. The Sony I had didn't have this problem, and IMO is a much better monitor. This monitor does have good color saturation and contrast, and is great for gaming and watching DVDs on. But, for a 19" monitor at this price, I expected much better results as running at a lower resolution (1024x768 @85Hz) just to get clear text defeats the purpose of using it. And having to lower the refresh rate to 75Hz at higher resolutions to get clear text is ridiculous--not to mention hard on the eyes. The bottom line is that the NEC-Mitsubishi 930SB DOES NOT live up the recommended specs and should be avoided.

I did some research online and came across this monitor. The reviews on this site and Zdnet were very helpful and I am sure now that I made the right choice. After reading some of the other reviews on this site, you might be asking yourself if you really want to buy this monitor. Especially after seeing that the reviews are so extreme...1 star and 5 stars! How do they mesh? In all honesty, they don't. The people who had problems either: 1) had VERY bad luck or 2) didn't spend the time changing the monitor's settings to get the picture the way it's supposed to be. For instance, I got very different results at different refresh rates. I am sure this will vary for each person depending on their graphics card. Right now I'm running it at 1024x768 at 90Hz and the picture I'm looking at is CRYSTAL clear...as is the text that I am typing. For gaming I would rate the monitor as outstanding. I was replacing a Sony, so I know what a clear picture looks like. This monitor far surpasses the Sony in quality. After tweaking this monitor's settings ever so slightly, I saw things in my games (Ghost Recon and Counterstrike) and photos that I never saw before. The colors were brilliant and the picture was sharp. I would highly recommend this monitor. If you have problems with it, spend a few minutes changing settings around and I promise you won't be disappointed. Amazon, as always was fantastic with shipping and I got the thing only 4 days after ordering WITH the Free shipping. Can't beat that.

Rating: Summary: Never worked Review: I did some research before buying new monitor for my home Dell 8100 instead of my old pre-Trinitron era CRT Dell 19", which I purchased 7 years ago. It was a decent monitor with above average characteristics, stable good workhorse, but it died. I decided to buy CRT, because LCDs have only three advantages over CRTs: they are cool, save space on the desk, and about twice more expensive :-). All other things are worse than those of CRTs: response time, multiple resolution, true color, view angle interval, etc. So, I decided to stay with CRT (my desk is large enough). I found many reviews on DP 930SB, which gave this monitor high ratings. I also found many customer reviews: the superb text and excellent pictures, but its main problem was reliability and the Mitshubishi service (people made several exchanges of refurbished monitors, which were received dead after the death of the purchased monitor during the warranty period). I am a computer professional, and I want a pretty big screen, crisp text and good quality of graphics and pictures. Good response time for games and movies are also a big plus for home PC. This monitor looked the best. I purchased it taking a risk. When I unpacked and plugged it in, the screen remained black, and LED blinked yellow. No signal. I checked connection to PC. It was ok. I connected another monitor, and it worked. I opened the User Manual and read that "if LED on monitor is flashing and/or disappeared, call the customer service (800)632-4662". I did so, and Rep was very polite. I waited for a while, and he told me that monitor is dead, and it needs to be repaired, and that I should send it to them. I told that I have received it only today, and I wanted to return it for a refund. Rep told me that there was no such option available. He recommended me to call the seller. Ok, I called Dell (thankfully, I purchased this monitor from Dell for $289), and they immediately made a refund, and arranged at home pick up. Finally, I bought 19" Dell M993. Its characteristics are a bit worse than DP 930 (according to reviews), but it has one big advantage: it works, and it is reliable. Plus, Diamond Pro 930 looks very cheap: its front panel looks like cardboard, eight front buttons do not have labels, the perforated side plastic cover, which also looks like cardboard, is so thin that it sags a bit when lifting monitor. Monitor looks very aestetic, may be this is the reason for "Pro" in its title. Look, Mitsubishi knows that the DP 930 is absolutely unreliable, because they put that paragraph into the User Manual (instead of improving the monitor). My recommendation is keep away from this fantastic monitor unless of course you like Russian roulette.
Rating: Summary: DP930 Review: I had a rather expensive sony ps monitor that died. The dp930 has sharper text than the sony and I can find nothing wrong with it. I am very very picky with monitors and I went with this one since its pretty much the tops in 19". The naviset software is excellent and I had mine set up perfect in about 5 min. I tried high resloutions and was a bit worried cause it looked blurry in text. I never wear my glasses at the computer and i usually run a low resolution for that reason. Right before I was about to contact support I thought I better put on my glasses since the text was sooo small. LOL the text was razor sharp. I have no complaints at all with this monitor. For those that complain about display problems etc. I would suggest you check out your video card as that is usually the problem and people are quick to blame a new monitor.
Rating: Summary: I can see clearly now... Review: I purchased this monitor for use with digital photography, as I needed to get accurate color reproduction and a clear image. This NEC monitored delivered that in a bug way. I'd investigated an LCD monitor as an alternative, but it was clear there was at least double the bang for the buck going with a CRT (plus better image quality). I then looked at alternatives, and in the end came down to the 930SB and the Lacie 19". Now Lacie has a great reputation, but these monitors are practically the same (in fact, many people insist they share the exact same tube) and the Nec is priced lower. Having purchased and received my monitor I can tell you it is absolutely fantastic. This was an easy decision and I am thrilled with the results. Assuming that you are looking for the best image you can get for the money, I think you will be too.
Rating: Summary: Sharp Stuff Review: I run this monitor on a Linux machine under KDE 3.1 as a Diamond Pro 920 at 1600X1200 and 81Hz. Absolutely crystal clear. Color reproduction is gorgeous. This thing rivals my Sony E540, if not surpassing it, in image quality. In fact, the 930SB is so nice I just bought another one. As for the Viewsonic P95f+: I looked at three, and all had image distortion on the right side of the screen, and horrible image streaking.
Rating: Summary: Do Not Buy This! Terrible Product Review: I was in the market about 6 months back to replace my old DELL 19" flat screen which had lasted about 4 years (not bad for a monitor). I am a graphic designer, so I wasn't yet thrilled about the prospect of getting a LCD (color issues etc). So I read around, and it seemed this monitor was picked as a quality item, so I ordered one.
I got the monitor about 7 months ago, and it worked great for the first 3 months. Then, in July of this past year, it started acting funny. It would turn "off" by itself etc. I called tech-support and they told me they'd cross ship me a "new" one. About a week later, a big box came and there was a REFURBISHED 930. I installed the monitor and everything was fine.
About 2-3 weeks later, I started having the same problems. I called their tech support and the person I talked to was quite rude to me. I was really mad that I paid $350 for a product and they sent me a refurbished one. I wasn't mean, but this guy wouldnt' help me. I asked to talk to his manager, he refused. I asked for a product upgrade because this was my 2nd one, he refused. I asked him "what can you do for me, to make me happy?" he said "i don't know." Great support, eh?
After a good 30 minutes of talking to this guy, he promised me that they'd send a "brand new" monitor out to me and pay for me shipping back the 2nd one. I was still angry, but at least I'd be getting a brand new monitor. About a week later, FedEx dropped a new package off, it looked the same as the one I'd just received not a month earlier. Guess what? It was a refurbished monitor. I was so tired of calling these people, I decided to live with it, since when I plugged it in, it actually worked.
So for the past 2-3 weeks, it's been working fine, but the other morning, I woke up, turned it on, and heard a loud distinct buzzing. I assume this is a problem with the tranformer in back, and I assume I am going to have to get another shipped out, but at this point I am thinking of just throwing this out and buying a NON NEC product.
I am usually pretty understanding if a product fails (especially a tech-related product) but twice? Three times? This monitor is obviously built on the cheap, and not of professional quality. If you read below you'll see at least 3-4 other people that have been having the same sorts of problems, this is no fluke, this product is awful, don't buy it!
Rating: Summary: Terrible monitor experience! Review: I'm now on my third 930SB from mitsubishi . . . First died w/in 24 hrs of installation . . . NEC customer support was fine and sent me a brand new monitor, but it was out of stock, so i waited two weeks to receive it. Five days into the second monitor, faint white lines appeared vertically . . . I do graphics work and this was not helpful! Once again, they send me another monitor (only 3 days to get this one). I was just thinking the other 2 were flukes when this one started showing similar white lines! AAAAAGH! what did i do to deserve this?! I'm sure tech support will be glad to send me another one, but I'm gonna try my hardest to get them to send me a different model! They'll probably tell me where to go! Oh well . . . thems the breaks! Maybe it's just bad luck, but i would stay FAR away from this monitor!
Rating: Summary: Quality Problems! Review: My new Mitsubishi Diamond Pro 930SB developed all kinds of problems within 3 months of use - lots of noise, pictures shaken, horizontal waves and vertically warped lines. So I took it for repair. Then they called me saying that it is 'not repairable' Instead they shipped refurbished one. After spending hours of resizing, calibrating and hooking up, I found out that this refurbished one does not turn itself off or does not go into energy-saving mode when I turn off the computer. There is a huge white blank space with black background. This stays on even though I disconnect the computer and the serial cable. That means it has nothing to do with my computer. I have dual monitor set up. And I do not have any problem with other monitor, nor did I have this particular problem with my previous monitor. So I had to take this refurbished one back the next day. Currently I am waiting for the third monitor from them. Even though the people at their service/support department was cooperative and helpful, I would hope their product quality got better so that I do not need to deal with their service/support people.
