Description:

The KDS VS-F15 flat-panel display is a lightweight alternative to traditionally bulky CRT monitors. Sleek and svelte, this flat panel offers superb picture quality at a price that won't sap your checkbook. It sports a 15-inch screen, which is the same size as a traditional CRT 17-inch screen, but the VS-F15 takes up significantly less space. Weighing in at a mere 10 pounds and measuring 15.2 x 15.9 x 7.8 inches, the VS-F15 is sure to leave plenty of space on your desk for notepads and coffee mugs.

We were impressed with the visual quality of the display; it has vibrant colors, and the picture quality is sharp as a tack. In its native 1,024 x 768 at 75 Hertz resolution, everything looks superb. Unfortunately, dropping the resolution down degrades quality somewhat, producing slightly blurred text and images, but this is typical of some flat-panel displays.

The onscreen display is also intuitive to navigate, but we were a little unsettled with the placement of the button controls. The rear of the display has four buttons, with indentations for four fingers. We would have preferred visible buttons on the front of the screen, but once we learned what each button was for, the calibration controls became second nature.

The KDS VS-F15 includes a power connector that forks out of the monitor signal cable; this is intended to minimize the snarl of cables behind your computer. Households prone to electric interference might experience a slight hum from the display--something we can only attribute to improper shielding in the cable.

Though there are a few minor drawbacks, the VS-F15 is a slick display that offers an extremely sharp picture at an affordable price. --Dan Simpson
