Sceptre D77D 17" Diamondtron CRT Monitor

Summary: One of the best monitors I've Used!
Review: I've used many monitors in my lifetime. I've used old CRT monitors, monitors with Trinitron tubes, monitors with Diamondtron tubes, but the Sceptre D77D was one of the best monitors I've used!

The Sceptre D77D uses a Diamondtron NF tube, which is essentially the same thing as Trinitron but uses two finer lines instead of one thicker line. The viewing area is 16.1 inches, not bad and it's refresh rate depends on your resolution and other configurations that you have.

At $299, it may be higher than some Diamondtron and Trinitron tubes, but it's worth it because of it's quality alone! Sceptre is having a $50 off sale so it's $249, that makes it one of the cheapest monitors. Before I placed the monitor on my desk, I've noticed that there was no curve on the screen at all, although normal for Diamondtron monitors, I also noticed that it didn't really take up a lot of space which can come in handy. Text quality is sharp! Never a blur, even at high resolutions. I've changed GFX cards from a nVidia GeForce2 Ultra to an ATI Radeon and the text looked even sharper, and images were vibrant. The refresh rates aren't the highest, but the monitor excels with my Radeon at intensive 3D games. Everything was sharp and I can use the monitor for hours without my eyes watering and such.

Compared to other brands, Sceptre has one of the best warranties in the industry with five years. Their tech support team is very friendly and know what they are talking about. There was only one thing wrong with the monitor. When you change the settings, there are only pictures and no words. Not very annoying but that was about the only flaw I could find.

I've used Viewsonic, CTX, Futura, IBM, Dell, Iiyama, Samsung, and many other monitor brands and although they are really good, Sceptre pulls ahead with its superior text quality. The image quality was pretty much the same for 2D until you start playing a 3D game, then the Sceptre leads the race.

My advice, always go with Sceptre for its monitors. The D77D was fast and crisp with everything it displayed. I would emphasize that it is a very good price right now! There isn't really a lot of glare so you can use the monitor for long periods of time. The D77D delivers very good performance without making a dent in your budget.
