Summary: Not as described. Never buy from Samsung Again
Review: I got my Samsung 17" 700IFT for about 3 months and have been using it since. The reason I bought this monitor was the price and the performance. I needed a big enough monitor with hi resolution and good refresh rate for working with AutoCAD and 3d studio. A .20mm dot pitch, resolution up to 2,045 x 1,536 flat 17" for $...(shipping included)was too good of a price for performance(& it was).

The monitor shown above here on amazon[.com] is a little different from what I got. The ajustment button is not cover as shown above. That was a minor problem mainly Amazon[.com]'s fault. Now the problem with the monitor itself. You'll get what you pay for is perfect for describing this moniter. It's too bright even with a UV filter. It's hard to adjust. When you adjust it lower it would turn too dark. Adusting the display area to align with the screen is impossible. The left side is curve and not straight. I had tried every possible adjustment and still not straight. This monitor does not look like a .20mm monitor. A regular 2 yr old 17" CRT at work looks clearer than this one. Also you can NEVER set the resolution pass 1280x1024@85MHZ because anything higher and you will see some major flickering and by lowering the refresh rated to 75mhz at this resoluton and the whole screen would flicker. Even at 1280x1024@85MHZ you notice some minor flicker on the upper right corner.

One word "AVOID" I wanted to believe in the Samsung's product quality but after this one I would have to think twice or never think about buying their product again

Summary: You will love it as much as I do!!
Review: I just got my monitor yesterday and I absolutely love it! I was worried being that I have a small computer cart that I wouldn't have a lot of space with a 17-inch monitor. It doesn't take up much more space then my old 15-inch monitor did. This monitor is very sleek and takes up minimal space. I love the scoop design in the back it makes it look very stylish and not just like a plain looking monitor.

It was easy to adjust the settings. So far I just have my resolution set on 1152 x 864. I was used to 1024 x 768 before, but I am sure I will gradually increase the resolution after adjusting to it more. I love all the choices it gives you to change your resolution to. I checked out a lot of other 17-inch monitors and I did not see any that was able to match this ones ability to go up to 2048 x 1536.

I am very happy with the quality of this monitor. I am glad I made the decision to spend a little more for a high quality monitor. I debated over and over with this monitor and the cheaper monitors which had fewer features. I do freelance webdesign and this monitor is perfect for it. Graphics and text look amazing. It was very easy to set up and took only a matter of minutes. This is definately a monitor for everyone from beginners to the professionals.

Get this monitor you will love it as much as I do :)

Summary: Product not same as the one in photo BUT still happy with it
Review: I wanted a 17" monitor not too expensive(like LCD) and not too cheap(like no name brand) to replace my existing Komodo 17" monitor(AVIOD THIS BRAND) which is becoming not too easy on my eyes. I pick this over all other mainly of it perfermance. No other monitor in this price range even come close to having. .2mm and 1,280 x 1,024 resolution at 85 Hz. I got the monitor in 3 days. The monitor is same as the one in the photo show on Amazon except mine has the color adjust button on the monitors facde and not like the one in the photo which sticks out. The quality and material is OK. The screen need some adjusting time to fix the corner. When I had it on 60Hz it just like the Komodo but once I had it on 85Hz my eyes feel much more comfortable. Overall it a OK monitor. Still not as good as a regular 17" DIGITAL CRT monitor I use in my office for more than 2 years

Summary: Sharp image, fantastic colors...beats the competition
Review: If you're just looking for a monitor for average every day usage then your search is over, THIS is the monitor you want! Text is rendered SHARP, colors are superb, the screen is perfectly flat, and it's case is aesthetically pleasing to look at. Why pay three or four times as much for an inferior LCD? For those who may be looking for a monitor for more professional graphics usage, read on and THEN buy this monitor.

I'll preface this by stating a few things about my computer set up. I'm a graphic artist that needs great color and sharp details. My machine is a version 1 B&W 350 Blue & White G3 (Macintosh) with a gorgeous 21" Apple Studio Display monitor, both purchased back in early 1999. My big Studio Display was stunning from day 1 and is still picture perfect today - it's been my sole monitor. When I decided to add an additional monitor to handle the additional palettes and windows of Photoshop and Flash I was naturally looking for something that was of similar quality as my Apple monitor. A completely unrealistic expectation, as the 21" monitor was $1500. when I bought it (a comparible monitor today will cost much less now, of course) and was designed for precision color work in the graphic arts.

Undeterred, I purchased the new Radeon 7000 Mac Edition Video PCI card (dual monitor capability) and I began my search for a great 17" monitor. My first purchase was a used 17" Apple Studio Display bought on Ebay. Unfortunate results...lets move on. Second purchase was motivated by terrific reviews found elsewhere on the web: the Samsung SyncMaster 700IFT reviewed here. My immediate impression was that the screen appeared to have some grayness to it, kind of like looking through dirty/dusty monitor glass, except the gray 'smudginess' was embedded in the pixels! I figured that it was a defective monitor so I arranged for a return and immediately went out and bought the 17" NEC MultiSync FE700+ at a local retailer. The NEC monitor is actually quite good, it's bright, has good color, and no gray 'smudginess' to the picture. The NEC is of the aperture-grille variety, so it's brighter than the Samsung (which is the shadow mask type). But when I hooked both the NEC and Samsung monitors up at the same time the Samsung was the clear winner: sharper/more detailed images, (perhaps due the smaller .20mm dot pitch), and MUCH better text! Colors on both were great, though I saw that the Samsung had a somewhat yellowish overall hue to the picture that took some extra adjustments to control. I'd say that the 700IFT's colors are somewhat warmer overall but still excellent. OK, one more try: the ViewSonic G75f was my next purchase, which has also received very good reviews. Gray 'smudginess' was also apparent on this monitor but it had great colors. Bottom line: the G75f simply couldn't compete with the Samsung's ability to render text and detail. Text was comparatively blurry next to the 700IFT's. Back goes the ViewSonic!

Good news...that gray 'smudginess' on the 700IFT has lessened considerably over a 2 or 3 day period! It's still there but barely noticeable now, so perhaps this was a temporary condition (?).

The display control buttons on my 700IFT are all on the monitor's front, not on a drop-down panel as is always mentioned and shown in online reviews. Mine was manufactured in August 2001, which is more recent than most reviews, so I think that the drop-down panel, as shown here on Amazon and even on Samsung's website, was revised for the more traditional and more accessible 'buttons on the front' design. This monitor comes with a USB cable for using on-screen display controls, but this is only for Windows users only so I can't comment on that. Also comes with a variety of software for Windows, as well.

The case has a nice 'swooping' look to it...not blocky like the competition. Solid plastics and cables.

Highly recommended!!

Summary: Samsung Dynaflat 700IFT
Review: Samsung has 2 lines of Dynaflat monitors, the DF's and the IFT you see here. Dynaflat is probrably the best flat screen technology in the industry. The .20 dotch pitch gives this monitor the clearest picture I have ever seen. Dynaflats are used by Graphics professionals, but are affordable enough for the home!

The 700IFT boasts an awsome resolution for a 17 inch monitor: 2048 x 1536 maximum resolution at 60 Hz. That means, it can run a godly 1600x1200 picture with perfection!

The IFT series is also very high quality, includes all the new technologies. It's also very healthy as far as monitors go, with the anti glare, anti static coatings.

Some may say a 17 inch monitor is too small, but honestly, it isn't. It's the perfect size. Getting anything bigger is totally unnesessary and hurts your eyes.

For the price Amazon.com charges, and the free shipping, you CANNOT beat this monitor at the price. I seriously doubt you will find another monitor as good as this one .... Unless you get a different model Samsung Dynaflat of course. But I assure you, this one is the best bargain, I have compared them all :)
