Description:
Designed for professional and high-end video applications, Sony's 50-inch PFM-50C1 PlasmaPro flat-panel display is almost all picture. At a mere 49 inches wide and less than four inches deep, the widescreen plasma monitor features 1,365 x 768 resolution, a high contrast ratio (500:1), and high brightness (650 cd/m2). While it lacks traditional home theater connections (HD component-video or DVI), adapters are available for connecting it with various DTV receivers. Nevertheless, the handles a range of high-definition and other formats through a pair of D-Sub 15-pin connectors (analog RGB/digital YUV), including NTSC, PAL, SECAM, NTSC4.43, PAL-M, PAL 60, PAL-N, 1080i, 720p, and 480i. The monitor accepts standard composite- and S-video signals, too. With a plasma screen you get vivid colors like you've never seen before, extremely wide viewing angles (wider, even, than LCD screens), and easy placement due to a plasma monitor's slim size, perfect for wall mounting. Brightness tends to be extremely uniform across plasma screens, which are also impervious to picture distortion and negative color balances that afflict CRT monitors when placed in close proximity to lighting or sound systems. The PFM-50C1's anti-reflection (AR) coating on the glass protection panel reduces light reflections to ensure clear, high-contrast pictures. The PFM-50C1 features a unique Sony digital signal processing technology called the Real Digital System. Using RDS, all signals are input and processed digitally, taking advantage of a bi-pixel I/P (interlace/progressive) conversion circuit, which converts interlaced signals to seamless, progressive-scanned images. The display also performs 3:2 pulldown, a handy feature for watching progressive-scan movies in their native 24-frame format. Digital video mastering introduces a common distortion when adjusting 24 frames-per-second movies to 30 fps video; 3:2 pulldown digitally corrects this distortion, removing the redundant information to display a film-frame-accurate picture. The display also features a plug-in slot for an optional network adapter (model BKM-B30NW), which makes it possible to access and display a range of files, including PowerPoint, Excel, JPEG, GIF, BMP, and PNG. The adapter uses the Windows CE 3.0 operating system and an integrated Web browser for wireless network connectivity through a 10Base-T/100Base-TX interface. (The adapter also provides a Y/C and an additional composite-video input.) In the audio department, the display comes equipped with a stereo, 7 watts per channel amplifier for use with an optional speaker system (model SS-SP10A). What's in the Box Plasma display, AC power cord, two AC plug holders, two AA batteries, cable holder A (2), cable holder B (4), operating instructions, Remote Commander remote control (RM-971)
