Rating: Summary: Excellent product Review: I was skeptical about getting an LCD for gaming, but my CRT was making my eyes tired so I figured it was time for a change. I did a ton of research and read many, many reviews in magazines(like Maximum PC) and online. I was all set to order a Samsung 172X with 12ms response time, when I came across the L1720P on sale at Best Buy. tHE 16ms repsone time and good LG reputation caught my attention. Unfortunately, the store display model didn't look very good because they split a video signal for the demonstration display, so I went home and did research on it. I found only positive information online for the 1720P. So, knowing that I had 14 days to return it to best buy, I bought the 1720P, unsure about how it would perform. Well, I have to tell you, it surpassed my expectations. The Lightview feature that automatically adjusts brightness and contrast is awesome, and the 16ms response time makes ghosting in games undetectable. I seriously could not see any ghosting in Far Cry single player and Call of Duty multiplayer. I tested these games on a radeon 9800 pro and a radeon 9600 XT both using the DVI connector. I've heard ghosting can occur more on the VGA connecition than the DVI, but I can't confirm that.
The only complaint I have is that the monitor stand could be more stable. The monitor tends to shake when there is vibration on my desk from playing a game or doing alot of typing. It's not severe shaking, but at times it can be noticeable.
Rating: Summary: Brilliant display Review: I bought this display for my main gaming machine and I am very happy with it. The display is bright, sharp and fast. It has a 16ms response time, which is great for gaming/video. I have never seen any ghosting with this monitor and I've tried all the latest games, including FarCry and UT2004. The display includes DVI input and a cable, which a lot of other LCDs don't bother. One nice feature is there no power brick for the monitor. The brick is built into the monitor, so it uses a simple electric cable and plug. Another good feature is the usb ports. There are 2 usb ports on the back of the monitor. The placement is a little inconvenient. It probably would be better to have them on the side. You can never have too many usb ports, so this is a small issue. My monitor arrived with no dead pixels. One thing, $900 is far too much for this monitor. $500-$550 is much more reasonable.

Rating: Summary: After buying and returning 3 Sony displays, this is the best Review: I thought that investing in a pricey Sony lcd monitor (17 inch "HX" model for over $650.00) would guarantee quality and excellent performance. The first Sony HX totally sucked because the text was at time illegible, and the "moire" effect (the constant ripples scrolling diagonally on the screen) was so very distracting. I thought it was defective and exchanged it for another one. The second one had three burnt pixels, and I returned that one thinking the entire shipment to that store was bad. So I went to Circuit City and bought another one, only to discover that the moire effect was even worse than the first one. After returning that to Circuit City (with a 15% restocking fee - OUCH!) I carefully researched for another brand. I found LG and decided to take a risk. Boy, did that risk pay off! Now, sure it doesn't have all the gee whiz features like the Sony, but who really care about that when the display quality itself is the most important thing? Right out of the box, this monitor rocked! Setup was very easy, and even let's you fine tune the colors to your preference. The display is bright, text is sharp and clear, and the colors are soooo vibrant. I cannot recommend this monitor enough, and I will never ever buy another Sony again.

Rating: Summary: LG was $70 cheaper than a Sony of equal quality! Review: Similar to a previous review, I purchased this at Best Buy and am very pleased with it. I had the store hook one up to a PC instead of the normal monitor display as the signal is VERY bad due to extension cables and splitting. The visual appearance of the monitor is good, very bright colors, built in USB, etc. The inclusing of a DVI connector is nice as well, and it has a source button so you could run two machines to one monitor if so desired. Price is great for the quality of the monitor.
As mentioned before, the base could be better. It can shake a bit when typing or heavy gaming. It is the only complaint I can find about this monitor, and the only item keeping it from 5 stars in my book. I considered a similar featured NEC and Samsung monitor, but found the NEC to have a horrible glare due to its protective covering, and the Samsung has sub-par color.
