Summary: We are returning them...
Review: We ordered two of these because the manufacturer's website claims that the response time is 15ms rise, 10ms fall and the contrast ratio is 700:1. These as anybody will tell you are very impressive numbers. However, when we received the monitors we ran the following test on a Windows machine to test the response time:
1) Set Windows to draw window content while moving (display properties).
2) On Notepad type ' * ' and make the font size 150-200. You can also use Paint and draw a large black asterisk on a white background.
3) Shake the Notepad window around the screen.
5) Look at the amount of trailing or ghosting that you get.
FYI, the response time affects how quickly pixels can be turned on or off (rise/fall), causing ghosting effects on high-contrast moving images.
With 15ms/10ms response time we shouldn't see any ghosting at all. This monitor is so slow that even the 20 ms/30ms Planar PT1814NUV we have does a whole lot better. In addition, we compared it with a Viewsonic VX900 which claims to have a 25ms total response time and the Viewsonic is much better also. So I don't know where Sceptre gets their numbers from.
We did notice that the monitor was very bright, maybe 20% more than our other monitors, which might be the main concern if your office receives direct sunlight or you work outside. The ghosting was the same even when we lowered the contrast and the brightness.
In conclusion, this might be a good monitor for the price (500 on some websites) but the claim about the response time is definitely false.
