Summary: Pleasant suprise
Review: I had done some research on the cheaper entry level 17-inch monitors by Samsaung, Hitachi, and Sony. I went to the store with the intention of buying one of the entry-level Samsung monitors, since they had gotten some decent reviews but were still not in the higher price range. It was a close call, but I made the decision to go with the KDS over the Samsung. They were both the same price, but the KDS monitor seemed to have an advantage with clarity and brightness. It was not far from the entry level Sony 17-inch, and was a lot less money. The KDS, like the Sony, uses a Trinitron tube, but I would still say that the Sony monitor is better. I'm not sure of the technical differences between the KDS Trinitron and the Sony Trinitron and I'm not going to try to understand. I've worked with computers fo a long time, but when it comes to monitors I think it is important to just buy what looks good to you. The best description I can give is that the KDS was similar to the Sony, but the Sony appeared to have a little better quality - or maybe it was that nice Sony plastic molding...who knows? I suppose there is always the chance that the differences in picture were due to the messed up settings on the store demos, but after playing with the controls for a while I finally had to make the conlusion that this monitor was brighter and had much better contrast then some of the other models in it's price range. It also seems to have shaper definition than similar priced montiors. The only drawback is that the colors do not seem as vivid on this model, but my judgement is not complete until I spend more time with the color settings. I am at a loss why this monitor has gotten such bad reviews in a few of the articles I was able to find. I would be the first to agree that there are monitors with better color for the same price as this one, but this model seems to have excellent brightness and sharpness, which can be an advantage if you are planning to work with a lot of text. There are definetly beter monitors for $100 or so more dollars, but I would suggest this monitor if you are specificly looking for something with a clean and bright picture and you don't want to spend $300 dollars. I may be buying another monitor in the near future and I will definetly look at some of the other brands with better color, but overall I am not disappointed with the KDS.

Summary: great buy
Review: Its fine 0.24-millimeter dot pitch delivers crisp text and sharp lines, and its anti-static, anti-glare screen treatment greatly reduces eye fatigue while maintaining the display quality and color intensity. Everything about this monitor is adequate, from the colors, to the text sharpness. I strongly recommend it. Visit the KDS web site and download the free software to adjust the color.

Review: There are three monitors in my house: A Relisys .27 17" monitor, a Dell .26 19" monitor, and this KDS Avitron .24 17" Trinitron monitor. If I had to choose one to live the rest of my life with, it would certainly be this Avitron. The picture is extraordinarily sharp. I can read the text perfectly from several feet away. The brightness is awesome - when I work on the other computers, their screens look so dim! Along with every Trinitron monitor comes the two faint horizontal lines across the screen. I became used to these within a week or two. I barely notice them. The on screen display is great, and presents you with many geometry options. Although I have not been able to get my display area completely square, the picture is great. And, besides the extremely faint blurring in the corners, this is by far the best monitor I've ever used. I am a computer cosmetic freak - this monitor mixed with a nice video card will convince you that the [price] was worth it. (ps- YES- the screen is PERFECTLY flat- it looks concave at first. After using this for one day, looking at my Dell monitor reminds me of one of those fish-eye mirrors on a bus.)

Summary: Incredible Picture, Affordable Price, Pleasing Interface
Review: This is the best monitor I've ever owned. There are two very thin, almost invisible stabilizer threads at the 1/4 and 3/4 vertical points, you don't notice them after a few weeks but at first they may be a bother. What I like most is you get the incredible Sony picture, without the ugly purple Sony casing. The GUI is much simpler to use than most monitors I've played with, and I like the fact that you don't have to wade through three menu levels to degauss - the degauss button is right on the front.
