If you're weary of a tiny 15-inch monitor, upgrading to the affordable NEC AccuSync 90 is a good move. While the AccuSync boasts an 18-inch viewable screen, this monitor's footprint is nearly as compact as that of a 17-inch model--it will save plenty of precious desk space. At a dot pitch of 0.26 millimeters, this shadow mask CRT offers clear, detailed text and images. At higher resolutions, however, we found that smaller font sizes become nearly illegible. We also noticed ghosting near the edges. Still, there's a lot to like about the AccuSync 90; colors are rich and deep, contrast controls are strong, and the screen is surprisingly flat for a shadow mask monitor. The AccuSync boasts a maximum resolution of 1,600 x 1,200 at 76 Hz, and at the recommended resolution of 1,280 x 1,024 at 89 Hz, eyestrain is almost nonexistent. All told, the AccuSync 90 is a well-rounded monitor that should appeal to consumers on a budget. Its dull image quality might deter high-end graphics users, but for general business applications the AccuSync 90 should fill the bill nicely. --Dan Simpson Pros:
