Summary: Excellent Monitor with many extras - Great Buy!
Review: First, I'd like to clear something up about BenQ. I kept reading reviews with the words "unknown" and "took a chance." Since I'm not that kind of buyer, I did a little research. BenQ Corporation came on the computer scene in 2001, a result of the change of brand name from Acer Communications and Multimedia to BenQ. I had my 15" Acer monitor for nearly 7 years; I wanted it to die so I could upgrade - but it never did. 'Nuff said.
I purchased this monitor one month ago and could not be happier. I spent more time taking it out of its box than setting it up. The picture is crisp, accurate and easy on the eyes for all of my applications - from spreadsheets to Photoshop and, of course, a little gaming on the side (not a ghost to be found). In other words, the hardware specs do not lie. The surround sound is a real plus. I do a lot of work with digital media (including photos) and like the ability to preview my stored pictures without firing up the PC. Beats looking at them one at a time on the camera's 1.5" screen, too. The front panel controls are handy and intuitive to use. The "i" button auto launches the screen calibration software included with the monitor's install package.
I waited a long time to regain the desk space lost from the encroachment of my old monitor because I was worried about the lack of "true" 32bit color representation in LCD monitors. The color on this monitor looks great and I have no regrets - just a lot more space in my home office.
Two possible cons for savvy shoppers: First, while tiny compared to my old CRT monitor, this particular BenQ has a pretty big footprint and the extras add some real estate to the 17" screen side to side AND front to back. Plenty of 17 inchers on the market that take up less space. Second, as a direct result of the larger size, the monitor is also noticeably heavier than other LCD's I've moved around. Not CRT heavy, of course, but it has a pretty solid feel to it.
Directly out of the box, after the initial setup, the digital media input device did not work. I noticed that the "ready" light on the unit wasn't on - slid the unit from the top rear of the monitor - reinserted the unit more firmly in its cradle - and the light turned on. That was it, worked fine after that.

Summary: You'r Eyes, Ears, and Fingers will be pleased!!
Review: I purchased this monitor about a year ago through Amozon and am still amazed by it's features. It's cabnet is very attractive; a matt black which seems to float above a sleek silver. I had considered buying a Sony LCD monitor, as my computer is a Sony Vio, however, Sony's steep price tag and reviews about dead pixels Scared me away!! This monitor (The BenQ FP791) is amazing in it's jaw-dropping asthetics, as well as it's unequeled Stats. The sound from this monitor is delivered in SRS sound processing and is Stunningly Crisp. The picture is bright and vivid And can be tweaked endlessly. It has every out put imaginable, including VGA and The Standard thinggy. What my wife and I enjoy most is the controls right under the Screen which can be adjusted seemingly from just the heat of your finger tips. The most amazing feature of this monitor is the built-in media card reader. Without even turning your computer on, the monitor is able to independently read any of the 3 major media cards, and has features like: picture zoom,Slide show, and slide show delay. My wife purchased one for her bridal consulting Co. She uses it to display her previous work and products to clientel. She says it is more impressive than photo albums and less space consuming than tons of heavy albums or another computer Server. If you have any sort of business such as a floral shop, bridal shop, caitering serv...etc. this monitor will serve you well displaying your best work!! I don't know why this monitor is not better advertised, we just happened to come across it in a computer mag. The price, its many features such as SRS sound, D-SUB and DVI out, lightning quick response time, and excellent contrast ratio, almost sell themselves. Both monitors have served us well for almost 2yrs. If you are an avid digital photographer or gamer, this is the 17 inch LCD for you!! It would have been the best monitor on the market if Ben Q had offered a Wide-Screen model, but then it would be more expensive, and for the features this baby is a steal!! Take a chance go for the cool looking monitor with the strange name.
