Summary: Can't beat it - best I've seen so far
Review: I purchased this very monitor at Costco, (at an even better price) and I must say that it has turned out to be a fantasic buy. This price at Amazon is very close to what I paid for mine, (with rebate). It is a great deal at this price espcially since it is a 17 inch display. Before I bought this display in December 2001, I spent months researching and comparing and even now you still cannot find a good 17 inch LCD display for less than about $600. I am totally satisfied with all aspects of this monitor, colors are vivid, the text is clear on my display, much better than any other LCD I've used, (mainly laptops at 15 inch or less.) No dead pixels or any other typical lcd problems here. This display is exceptional for the price. I use it for work applications and digital images and it works great for both. Have never noticed any limited viewing angle - not a problem for me. I would like to mount it on the wall and that's the only drawback - it is not eqiupped for any alternate mounting. Oh & by the way to navigate thru manual setup, there is a 'forward' *and* a 'back' button, (excluding the Power button - from the right,1st button controls setup mode (either select or unselect an attribute). Unselect to navigate thru all attributes going 'forward' use 2nd button and to navigate backwards, or 'back' use the *3rd button* - 4th button is auto-config)
Great monitor and you can't beat the price - totally recomended.

Summary: An Outstanding Monitor
Review: Rarely have I encountered a real value in computer products. The Envision 17" monitor provides a space-saving, well-designed display at a price that won't break the bank.

After seven months in service, the monitor is crisp and has exhibited no problems. The one question I needed to ask during set up was promptly, courteously and correctly answered. The controls are basic, but we really haven't had to make any adjustments off of the standard settings.

It has all of the features of monitors that are double the price. Highly recommended!

Summary: Reasonable monitor, but suspect quality
Review: The picture is fairly sharp, although mine had one stuck pixel in the middle. I could not fault the overall picture quality.

The aspect ratio is not 4:3, this is good as it compensates for the 'odd' ratio of 1280 x 1024, but is a bit of a surprise, and will distort your picture if you run at any other resolution, not that you should.

However, the monitor seems fairly poorly finished, and does not feel good quality. I had to return mine as the backlight would not stay on - you had to turn it off and on again to get it to come on.

You get what you pay for: I think this monitor is cheap rather than good value.

Summary: I remember how good it was...
Review: One day my 5yr old CRT finally went up in a cloud of blue smoke. What a trooper that 17' CRT, but it was now time to shop. Lots of choices out there but when I witnessed the quality of the Envision 7100e picture in a local computer store. Well, I was quite impressed. It had the best 17" picture of them all. Even a little cheaper than the other LEDs too. Good refresh rate and pixel size as well.
So I dropped a fairly good sum of hard earned money on this baby and rushed it home. I figured it was worth the price for the saved space and good picture. After all, 17" of thin screen is quite impressive. So what if I had to stop eating for a while to make up the cash. It was total pleasure! Yep, games, surfing, writing, PCI-TV, it was all very good. I was beginning to think all that money was worth it!
Six months later there was a flicker. Then another. Now it's doing it several times a minute. What the hay! Sometimes the screen would go blurry white too. I put up with that until it was blank more often that it worked.
Yep, that was the end of that. Put the monitor, cord and base in the origional box, as specifically instructed by Envision's web site, and spent thirty-some bucks to ship it for warranty service. Lets see. Six days there, two days turnaround, another six days back. Two weeks with my PC dead in the water. I could have hitchhiked it there and back faster.
Well the box arrived all banged up, the handle missing, and a big, black boot mark in the center of the dented box. Gee, thanks UPS, your alright. Open the box...Sure enough, no base, no cord, and no way to find out if the thing even works after the boot job. I noticed the screen had a couple of scratches in it too. It wasn't like that when I sent it.
Please note the folks at Envision are very nice, and have promised fast shipment of the missing parts, and yes, I felt bad for getting short with them. I know, it will all work out eventually.
Really though, how long will this take? Will it work when I finally get to try it? Will it have to travel UPS's smash-up derby again? Can the box make it through another ordeal? Can I? I have no idea. It's a good thing I went out and blew more money on a backup monitor so I could write this review.
Still, it did have a great picture. I'd recommend to anyone. Just make sure you have a backup monitor and more patience than I, because I just can't wait to use mine.

Summary: Worth the money
Review: The review on [another site] and the buyers ratings here in Amazon helped me decide in buying this monitor. I got mine delivered this afternoon. Easy to set-up. The color is brighter than my CRT 17'. Refresh rate...can't notice any lag. Less space. The only drawback is that it can't swivel but the way my desk is set-up where the monitor faces me at eye level is perfect. If you buy at [local store] it costs more plus tax. That's what I like about Amazon.com. No tax and free shipping. Shipping time is reasonable too.

Review: I love this monitor!!! Took 5 minutes to set up and I'm no computer expert. The picture is great and I couldn't be happier.
For this price it's a bargain. Don't pass it up. I did a lot of research and decided on this one and I'm glad I did.

Summary: Good Entry Level Monitor
Review: I bought this LCD monitor with mixed emotions because of the various reviews written about it. But for the price, I couldn't resist, and I'm glad I got it. For starters, it's a good 17" monitor. I used my CRT 17" @ 1280x1024 and I didn't even have to change any settings or install new drivers when I plugged it into my Windows XP system.
As for image quality, it is SHARP. Compared to a G4 iMac or a Sony VAIO laptop LCD display, I might say this is even sharper and it almost makes my eyes hurt from the sharpness. Perhaps turning down the brightness/contract will reduce eye strain.
My advice would be to not run the monitor at any resolution other than it's native (1280x1024) since anything else would require the monitor to extrapolate the pixel locations, resulting in a fuzzy picture.
Analog/Digital... I don't see what the big difference is, at least at the default resolution. This is coming from a geek that can tell apart 300dpi laser printed from a 600dpi, so I would have to say that the quality is very high.
The only bad thing I really notice about this monitor is its shadow effect. It almost has me wanting to return it to Amazon.com, but I'll try it out for a few days. It has a refresh rate of 50ms, which is almost twice as much of other monitors. I guess you get what you pay for though. All in all, this is a good monitor. If you think you can learn to get along with the shadowing/slow refresh, then this monitor is for you.

Summary: Does your computer support 1,280 x 1,024?
Review: Do not buy this display if your computer does not support its native resolution: 1,280 x 1,024. We tried using it at lower resolutions and results vary from horrible to alternate regions of clear and blurry accross the screen. At 1,280 x 1,024 it is crystal clear.

Summary: Initally Hopeful, But Later Highly Disappointed
Review: ... I was worried about what I might get (poorly packaged, dead pixel(s), power cable too short, tilt angle too shallow, top-to-bottom shadowing, cross-hatching, etc.). I thought, "I'll be lucky and maybe get a good one." Nope!! I got all of the above negatives plus three new ones. The "silver" paint looks like a 4th grader brushed it on (literally all over), plus there is a large scrape/scratch on the upper right side. It has dead pixels plus a strange thick black line about 1/2" inside the screen (don't even know what this is). Finally, the power goes off about every 5 mins and I have to jiggle the power cord in the monitor's backside to get it back on. I am not a computer jockey, nor a perfectionist. .... My advise - spend perhaps 10-15% more and get a reputable high quality monitor. You'll be glad you did.

Summary: Great monitor
Review: I have had this monitor for 2 months now and it is absolutely amazing. The graphics are crisp and bright, there is no artifacting, and the auto-adjust is the only control you ever need. Side by side with my friends sony 17" running on DVI, this monitor is at least as good, if not better in all categories.
