Summary: Very Disappointing
Review: I'm shocked to read all the reviews complaining of the flicker problem. I absolutely loved this monitor until, after 15 months or so, I started getting awfull flickering/distortion. I guess I understand why the warranty ends after one year. I will not buy another NEC monitor.

Summary: One Year Later...No Problems
Review: I've had this excellent monitor for a year and haven't had a single issue. Well...the only "problem" I can report is that when I turn my TV on (which is only about 5 inches away from the monitor), the picture becomes somewhat blurred. It isn't that big of an issue for me, but I would look into it if I were considering a dual-monitor setup.But, on the plus side, and there are many with this monitor...
the CRT is bright and produces an excellent contrast. I haven't really used the SuperBright mode much, but if you'd like the display even brighter, then you have that option. The most impressive aspect of this monitor to me is the cabinet, which is simply stunning to look at. The display looms over my desk and matches my other black components very well. All in all, it is an excellent monitor that has lasted for me!

Summary: Good while it lasted
Review: Monitor was very nice at first. Loved the super bright for games. Then after one year monitor started flickering and now i have to replace it cause it went bad

Summary: Looks nice, but...
Review: My monitor is now a year old. The color is fantastic, the SuperBrite function is great for gaming. But the monitor is starting to fail at just one year of age. I notice there is another reviewer with the same "screen-blink" issue after about a year. The 3-year warranty might sound nice, until you read the fine print where you have to pay to ship the monitor to NEC--Mitsubishi, and pay for the return shipping. That is a lot of money for shipping on a monitor that might only last another year.

Summary: Good monitor until it gets some age on it
Review: My monitor worked great until it got about 18 months old. It then started flicker and distort just like some other people have stated in other reviews. I'm going to buy a different brand to replace it.

Review: My NEC FE991SB-BK 19" CRT Monitor right out of the box had two very visible horizontal gray lines that I have not been able to get rid of. After a year and half it has begun to flicker and distort severely. I hate it and regret buying it. I will think twice about buying NEC again...

Summary: Are you kidding!!!!!!
Review: This is the perfect monitor for you if you like to spend $300 bucks on another 19" monitor after two years. I am amazed to read that I am not the only with the flickering problem and the white horizontal line. I wonder if the other people with the same problem fix it like I do. By slapping it hard on the side until the white line goes away. They say you get what you pay for. But I didn't know that $300 bucks would get me this piece of $#!+ Other than that it is a perfectly fine looking monitor. [...]

Summary: Great Gamer Monitor!
Review: This monitor is great for gaming. The super bright modes are ever so handy! I have had no problems with the monitor and have previously owned NEC monitors and have found them to be long lasting and durable. This monitor is worth the cash.

Summary: BEST MONITOR EVER!!
Review: This monitor is UNBELIEVABLE! I heard it was amazing, but now that I have it hooked up to my new computer it's even better than I thought. I picture is crystal clear, it is great looking, and the superbright function is state of the art. If you're looking for a monitor you can't go wrong with this one. It's worth every single penny! Nice job NEC!
