Summary: My two cents...
Review: Like other reviews posted, when you step into the monitors section in CompUSA this monitor will catch your eye. Not because of its style (at least not for me), but for its incredible picture quality. It is flawless for viewing DVDs and playing video games - enough said. One concern I had before I bought it was the glare. In the stores there is a glare. However, this has not been a problem for me. The only time I can see a glare or reflection is when the screen in completely black - which is never the case when I'm using it. I have no complaints, but will echo that fact that the base is stiff. But this is of no real concern unless you plan on moving or tilting your monitor frequently.

Summary: Determine a monitors Sharpness
Review: Most stores have WinXP as the OS. To determine the sharpness when displaying type faces - find out where the keyboard and mouse are located. You may have to ask a clerk to get you out of the screen saver to the "desktop" window of WinXP. Press Start/Run.. and type in wordpad and press enter. Then mouse over to the font size and get it to Arial size 12. Then type rounded capital letters like O Q P R G B D C. If I saw the O as a 8 sided stop sign -- I would reject that monitor. BUT there is a way to get the display to be in ClearType. Hit Help to learn how. Then after ClearType is active the capital O etc will display as rounded letters.

On this NEC 1765 monitor I saw it as rounded letters - so I wanted to buy this one. But I hate the plastic front covering because of the reflected glare from background light. Thats why I rated this with only 2 stars. Dont get me wrong - this is a very good monitor NEC usually is.

I just bought a 19" monitor lizzard by Sharp which has a contrast of 700:1 and 3 analog inputs which can be switched from a button on the front + it has a DVI input making it ready for the future. The screen display has a button to change the display instantly from a colorful gaming mode to a more subdued modes. I havent opened the box yet but folks here on Amazon gave it 5 stars.

Summary: Is It High Quality CRT??!!
Review: The colors are so realistic and bright that I can't help think that it's a CRT. The difference is that with these I can fit two in the same space it takes to have one CRT. Whether turned on or off it always looks like a beautiful picture frame. But when playing a movie or game is when it really shines. I dare you to compare side by side with more expensive LCDs and see for yourself. You will be amazed.

Summary: Sweet Machine
Review: This flat-panel monitor looks very good for its price range. I bought it mostly because it has one of the lowest response times (around 16ms, or 60Hz) that I saw for monitors under $600. That speed makes it great for movies and it handles video games (I tried it on Halo and GTA: Vice City) beautifully. Like all flat-screens, it is a bit fragile and from what I've read and heard, it's fairly common for pixels to burn out. So I bought a bought an extended 3-year warranty from the retailer where I got it, and I'd recommend doing the same if you are going to make the investment. It doesn't have an anti-glare filter on it, but I don't miss it. This monitor is ultra-stylish and a very sweet machine. I highly recommend it.

Summary: I LOVE IT!
Review: This is so far my favorite LCD 17" monitor I have used/seen and being that I setup computer systems for doctor's offices for living I've seen a lot.
My parents got this model for their home computer and everytime I use it I just absolutely love it. It is SUCH a sharp and clear and high contrast image and it seems like the refresh time or whatever is really good too. I've played counter strike on it a LITTLE bit, but what I did experience was great. I know LCDs aren't supposed to be for gaming but I think that is changing and pretty soon LCDs will be very acceptable for gaming as this one already appears to be. Another feature of this monitor I really like is the hard plastic cover. A lot of people are used to being able to touch their CRT screen because it is hard glass, but as you might know touching an LCD can cause ripples and damage if touched too hard. The hard plastic cover is GREAT! It makes the monitor very easy to clean and protects the monitor AND it's hardly noticeable as far as image quality goes. It does not diminish image quality as far as I can tell. I LOVE THIS MONITOR!

Summary: Superb Monitor
Review: This is the best LCD monitor I have seen at this price. It is bright, crisp, and the colors are very accurate after a little calibration. The contrast is also very good. The monitor is very clean looking and extremely futuristic looking. The response time is excellent and I had no problems with ghosting on either movies or games. The images seem to pop off the screen with splendid realisim. The only drawbacks I see are the 1 year warranty, and it would be nice if the base swiveled. If you can live with these two minor drawbacks go for it because you simply won't find a better display under $600.00.

Summary: lemon
Review: This monitor developed a burn-through line within 3 days and had to be returned. Perhaps I just got a one-off bad one, but I didn't bother to replace it with another of this same model. Also, if you try to set the screen area at anything less than 1280x1024 (as you have to to see any smallish print), an annoying message comes up every five minutes right smack in the middle of the screen telling you that your resolution is less than optimal. I couldn't figure out how to get this message to close -- perhaps it's somewhere in the manual -- but who has time to bother?

Summary: Best of the Best
Review: This monitor is the best LCD I have ever used. The quality of the display is amazing and must be seen to be believed.

Summary: "Picture-Perfect" Monitor
Review: This monitor is the greatest monitor I have ever seen. From the extremely fine display to the way it blends seemlessly with the rest of the decor. The best part is when there is only a picture on the screen, it looks so much like a picture in a frame that I want to hang it on the wall. A true 5-Star monitor!

Summary: I'll never use a CRT again after buying this LCD monitor
Review: This was not my first choice in computer monitors. I originally bought a Viewsonic CRT monitor because I wanted true colors for my photography. LCD's have always scared me off, as people say they have unreliable color. After two defective CRT monitors, I thought it was time to embrace the new technology.

I did a side-by-side comparison of all the popular LCD monitors. Two brands really stand out: Sony and NEC. I chose this NEC because of bright backlighting, engineered specifically for photo editing. And, it really is bright. Unlike a CRT, it doesn't buzz, flicker, or wobble. It's rock steady. The colors are vibrant and make photographs look three dimensional.

True to the disadvantages of CRT's, viewing from angle makes the colors look a little warm. Viewing from an elevated angle makes part of the screen look a little darker. As the saying goes, "Just don't do that." If you tweak your colors and keep your monitor pointed straight-on, this beauty will out-perform any CRT I've used. The stand is fully adjustable and, unlike a CRT, you don't need a fork lift to adjust the viewing angle.

The stand was a bit stiff and it took me a little courage to snap it into place. Odd for a high performance monitor, this one is analog rather than digital. My video card can drive both. Again, I was not disappointed. Although there are the usual tweaks, size adjustments, offset adjustments, etc - there is button on the side which does all the tweaks for you. This is wonderful. What once took me fifteen minutes for each video mode now take a few seconds.. click / done. Wow.

The monitor is so compact and light, that I I did have one minor difficulty when I picked it up at the store. They couldn't find it! I guess they weren't expecting this compact 13lb box with its own carrying handle. I was impressed again. Not a dead pixel to be found, rock solid, bright BRIGHT colors, razor sharp images and text, and zero flicker at 60hz. I'll never go back to CRT's again.
