Summary: Great...but
Review: I think all the great stuff about this monitor has already been said- color, flatness, and such. The one problem I would point out is that the physical screen size seems to always be shifting. When I turn on the monitor the screen area is past the edges of the screen meaning things get cut off. After a few minutes, the screen returns to normal. It gets a little annoying and I've never seen it with other screens. The other thing is the samsung software for ajusting the color settings. It just doesn't seem to work that well and only screws up programs such as Adobe Gamma. Although a great monitor at a great price, you must remember that it is not quite top of the line. No one would leave the resolution at 1600x1200 as the refresh rate is too slow. With that in mind, buy it if you want the best low priced 19" monitor on the market. And get it in black, it looks better.

Review: although I adjusted the refresh rate to 75Hz, still not good.

Summary: Excellent clarity
Review: I really like this monitor. It has excellent color quality and clarity and a very flat screen; for the price it cannot be beat. It has a color profile associated with it and some nice software to set up your color so that you know you are seeing red when red is on the screen.

For this price I think you cannot go wrong.

Summary: Samsung - move over Viewsonic !
Review: I just received my 955 today; after reading all the other reviews and checking Samsung's website, I have to say, now that I have it, this is a NICE monitor. The set-up went fast and I haven't noticed any of the faults mentioned in some of the reviews, ie, distortion, fading, etc. One thing I do notice is that it does get warm in the back. If you are using it in a semi-enclosed space, like a computer desk, you might consider mounting a small fan in the enclosure.

Summary: average
Review: I had a 17" Samsung 753df and that was one of if not the best 17" monitor I have ever used. Fooled by that I bought 955df and so far it is a disappointment. My basic issues with it are:
1: The monitor has a significan loss of contrast at the center of the screen, or as described by other users - line distortion,
which significanly strains the eyes, especially if you try to correct the moire and compromises the benefits of a small pixel size.
2.It does not not have anti-glare coating - also quite disturbing, especially when compared to 753df, which had an extremely successful one. As a whole 955df can be used as a mirror.
3. Do not be fooled by the statement that the monitor has a perfectly flat tube. The glass surface is, but the luminophore layer has a slight curvature, that becomes bothersome when compared with the straight edge of the case.
4. The monitor that I have is in a black case and the polished plastic edge around the screen reflects light from the screen and once again contributes to my bad experience.

Choose carefully what you buy!

Summary: You Will Enjoy This GREAT Monitor - A Best Buy !!
Review: I finally got my new Samsung 955DF monitor from Amazon and hooked it up in less than 10 minutes. With its "plug and play" convenience, the monitor was up and running in no time. With the arrival of the new hotrod LCD panels, the stakes have been raised for CRT monitors, especially large sized models in the 19" category, so my expectations were high.

I must say, the Samsung surpasses all my expectations. This is a WONDERFUL monitor with bright, saturated colors. Image and contrast quality are SUPERB. Unlike some other 19" monitors, "blacks" appear solid and dark, not washed out. My one pet peeve for any monitor is when dark colors appear "washed out"; on the Samsung 955, that is not the case. Its image quality gives this monitor the look of a $1,000 bucks. Even small fonts appear legible and crisp.

Of course with its unbelievably low price, there are a few minor tradeoffs. As other buyers have alluded to (for some, it is a major issue), most noticeable is the somewhat visible geometric distortion for straight lines. Again, this would depend how "finicky" your eyes are. What this means is that a straight line going across your screen may "dip" in the middle of the screen. On mine the visual appearance is there if you look at the screen long and hard enough, but it does not detract from the overall enjoyment of the images. Of course for any budget-priced monitor, there is a tradeoff expected. But on the Samsung, they are few and quite tolerable for the fussy-minded consumer.

All in all, this Samsung 955 flat screen 19" is a GREAT buy, and yes, it meets and SURPASSES all my expectations what a 19" CRT monitor is and should be, and it does not break the bank. Its best virtues being a SHARP image and GORGEOUS colors with NICE contrasts. Text quality is top notch with even tiny fonts being very legible. For the student, homemaker, or web surfer, this monitor will satisfy your needs immensely and I consider myself a fussy consumer.

Unless you have the $$$ to plunck down $700-$800 for a 17" LCD flat panel, this Samsung monitor is the next best thing. For your money, this monitor would be $$$ well spent and makes a great investment. You may even find yourself reluctant to log off the screen----you see, the Samsung can become quite addicting!

Samsung seems to be telling consumers just because a product is budget-priced doesn't mean it has to look and work like one. Get the Samsung 955----you'll LOVE it!!

P.S.---Their customer service is also Excellent. I was able to reach a live person within 2 to 3 minutes on the two occasions I called. Their 3-year warranty should keep you well covered.

Summary: Great Monitor
Review: This monitor is great. I was skeptical as it was a samsung instead of a big name monitor company but pleasantly surprised. It would be my top choice for a 19" monitor on a budget or even as a mid range choice.

Summary: Too good to be real
Review: Without a doubt the picture quality and features are excellent. The size, flat screen contour, price, and picture clarity make this an excellent value monitor. Unfortunately, I only got 4 weeks use out of mine averaging 15 hours per week before it went kaput. I am being told that an IC on the CRT board has failed. I get no picture whatsoever, although the on-screen prompts for picture settings are visible. Undoubtedly this deal seemed too good to be real. Alas, it was not real at all.

Summary: no color settings
Review: I bought this Monitor in Aug 2002, so i have the newer syle with the buttons right on the monitor. Overall its a good monitor but i wish i spent a bit more to buy something nice. Right out of the box, as soon as i turned it on, the edges looked like this --> ( ) <--. After playing with it for about 2 hours i got them to look like this --> ) ( <-- so take your pick. if you totally screw up the settings press "Recall" and your settings will revert back to factory specs. The control buttons let you choose two modes, one is called "Highlight Zone" and the other is the regular settings. The "Highlight Zone" lets you adjust the red blue and greens to let you customize the color, you can get a fairly good picture the only problem is that if your in the "Highlight zone", your monitor will switch back to normal settings after a few hours. The regular settings dont allow you to adjust the color, so you can see the dilema, you can choose between a blue screen or a yellow screen (im not kidding) so you only have two pre-defined color settings to choose from, unless you want to press the "highlight Zone" button every 2 hours. My monitor came with software that allows you to adjust the colors through Windows. After playing with it for some time i understand the reason this is not incorporated into the control buttons, there is nothing you can do to get a decent picture, unless your happy with a blue or yellow picture. The Reviews i read all said that unless you were a Digital Developer you would not notice the difference in color. Im not a Digital Developer. This monitor is not worth the money i spent, it really [is bad].

Summary: Good monitor...if it works
Review: I've had this monitor about a week. Upon getting it and hooking it up I was very impressed with the brightness of the screen and the quality of images. Although when using the web text, particularly smaller text, is very fuzzy and looks like it fades.
However, today I encountered a major problem. DO NOT use the highlight feature. While exploring what my monitor could do I pressed the highlight button to highlight a portion of my screen and it seems to have blown out the backlight on the monitor. Now everything is nowhere near as bright as it was when I purchased the monitor except for a few seconds after returning on the highlight feature. My IE pages now appear off white unlike the brillient white they were just earlier today.
I'll be returning this to Samsung for a replacement.
