Review: I chose the iPAQ rz1715 after I checked out the Dell Axim x30. A non-replaceable battery requires more attention on my part when I don't want another mundane task to remember BUT the extra battery cost and the cost of a cradle (not included) for the Axim x30 put the final price over $300 compared to this Amazon price. The Dell price left out some necessary components as "accessories." Let the buyer beware. Same software but only the HP met my budget.

Summary: Awesome Pocket PC!
Review: I consider myself an advanced computer user knowing how to do basic stuff to learning new software, yet very limited on programming abilities. I bought the rz1715 for a great price and I love it. I cannot live with it now!! I have my work and my personal life all together in one neat little thing. Plus there is SO much useful freeware out there that you can download!! I purchase for $15 software for my pocket pc and desktop where I can keep up with my checking acct and all I do is download it onto my desktop. I love the games I can get and all the reminder options since I am a post it note queen!!
I would highly recommend this for anyone who needs more organization in their life. As far as getting on a wireless technology with it, I'm clueless but that is something that I would probably never use anyway. You have to look at what is important to you. For me it was Contacts,Calender,useful software and not sure useful(but fun!), games, ebooks, pocket word and excel plus advantgo where I can download webpages and read them at my leisure anywhere. Get one, I don't think you will regret it!

Summary: Newer does not mean better
Review: I get to play this at a store, and it's actually a nice and speedy unit. However, it's too expensive for a PDA that has only 32MB ram and no integrated wireless. I think the Ipaq 1950 looks and feels better than the RZ1715. For a similar price, you can get a Dell Axim X30 with WiFi and Bluetooth, Intel PXA270 312Mhz CPU, 64MB RAM, user replacable battery...etc. I think HP will lose a big portion of the PPC market to Dell, due to its high price. I really don't see why would anyone buy this over a Dell Axim X30...

Summary: Just the pocket pc 4 me
Review: I have been a palm guy for quite a while. That was a mistake. This pocket pc does so much more than a stupid palm could ever do. Powered by a speedy samsung processor, this pocket pc cranks out 203 mhz of pure power. Dont be fooled by the discription. It says youu could play MUSIC. They should've said you can play music and Videos. Its true. Just get at least a 128 mb memory card.(I have a 256 mb memory card.) The display on this puppy is absolutely dazzeling. It uses a tft screen and is, in my opinion, more hi rez than a 71' plasma. I never want anything bad to happen to this pocket pc. I love it. You will to if you go get it at your nearest bestbuy or circuit city. I got it at circuit city. Go buy this piece of work now. The zr1715, a piece of art and a pocket pc for all your daily needs.
Did I mention that you can play games? It is true. It plays all types of cool games. Just do an active sync and play. It is so cool. The color is fabulous and the graphics r to. So go get 1.

Summary: I feel ripped off.
Review: I purchased this PDA as an impulse buy from a large store without doing more homework. I should've bought a Dell. For the same price, the Dell has more memory, more processor, and has WiFi.

Now, this PDA works fine, but I'm already running out of memory. They advertise this as the multimedia PDA. How many MP3's do you expect to store on 4.23MB free memory allocated to storage? How many MPEG4s? Not much. With the low price of memory, I don't understand why all PDAs don't ship with 256MB of memory standard. This goes for all manufacturers. Get Real.

The only other practical problem that I've had with this unit is the inking ability when jotting down notes. The ink doesn't flow as smooth as it should. Plus, it can't recognize even the most carefully written words. I'm not talking about "transcriber"; it works fine. I'm talking about the "pen" function in "note".

Summary: Not just a Mobile Media Companion
Review: I recently purchased the iPAQ rz1715 in the store. It was so new that I couldn't find any reviews on the item, but I took the risk anyway. I reviewed prices online but I wasn't sure what capabilities this product had in comparison with the higher priced hp models. I was afraid that since it was a "Mobile Media Companion" that it wouldn't have the same functionality and wouldn't serve all of my needs. Don't let the marketing gimick fool you, this is the same as the other pocket PC's.

There are two major differences between this model and the higher priced models, it does not have built in wireless capability (you can use an SD wireless card if you need to add this functionality later)and it does not have as much build in memory. This is the main reason for the $100 to $150 price difference. Since external memory is so cheap and I have no use for the wireless technology it was the perfect choice for me.

It has the exact same functionality despite being marketed as a media PDA. It comes with pocket Excel and pocket Word, both of which I really needed as well as all of the other standard programs. It also does not come with the Nevo (I think that's what it is called) universal remote software.

This is the perfect pocket PC for someone who doesn't need built in wireless and wants a top of the line PDA for a reasonable price. I am extremely happy with my purchase and would recommend any of the HP pocket PCs over any of the available Palm models.

Review: It is truly amazing what the people have been saying about this PDA. It is slow, only 32Mb RAM(!!), poor battery, etc, etc, etc...

It was voted as the worst PDA of the year by PC Magazine, in their last Top 10 Worst Products of the year.

There are many other options in this price range that are much better: In Pocket PC camp, there is the Dell X30, in Palm camp there is Zire 72. Both offer so much more for less money.

Summary: Worth every penny!
Review: My in-laws very sweetly bought this ipaq for me. When I heard the sales person say it was a ok entry level PDA, my heart sank a little..but considering the price, it seemed to be more than just that.. and well, after I had played around with it, I found out that I was right! Unless you are into serious gaming, this PDA is the thing for you.. don't be disheartened by the memory provided.. the expansion slot does let you expand your horizons as much as you want.. for wi-fi connectivity, you can put in a card.. but honestly, it serves it's purpose very well.. I am changed person.. I don't forget things because now I have a trusted companion to remind me of things that need to be done.. but it is not boring at all.. I also use it for reviewing powerpoint presentations, scribbling quick notes and of course, the games.. :) It is an awesome little thing to have.. and is all that I wanted..go for it!!

Summary: For the same price, you can get a top of the line Dell Axim
Review: The harsh reality is that anyone who got this was sorely ripped off. I've been following Pocket PCs very closely for over two years, and the specifications and the molassas slowness of this unit is a real shame for the technology that is capable of being produced today. For the same amount of money used to buy the RZ1715, you can get a 624mhz Dell Axim with 64mb RAM, 64mb ROM, integrated WiFi, integrated Bluetooth, and respect from the online PDA community. There is absolutely no reason to buy this unit because 1) It is not a bargain PDA. You can get other PDAs with much better features for even less than this unit is worth, 2) It has less than the bare minimum of features. Anything under 300mhz is considered a dinosaur of PDAs past. Why this unit was produced in 2004 is beyond me.

If you are looking for a Pocket PC to give as a gift to someone, don't pick this one. I guarantee it is a ripoff and an insult. You can get a really great Pocket PC for even less.

Summary: A rather nifty unit
Review: To be honest this is my first PDA. Working around them I came to love HP Ipaqs. I bought mine some three weeks ago and it's now part of my life. Personalizing and programming the unit is easy. I had no problems running .wmv and mp3 files. Loading and unloading new programs is a breaze. I've never felt cheated by processor speed or memory, granted you will need a 256+ SD card for video/ audio files. I'm very happy with mine.
