Summary: nice notebook but...
Review: 3 months ago I bought one this. Trust me, this notebook is the most beautiful I have see. In the firts 2 weeks I play Medal Of Honor at maximun settings without problems, the sound is a master as the display. Everething was great and then...
The graphics start to become slooow. The 3Dmark drop from 3700(new) to 1800(hot). I contact Toshiba and they tell me to upgrade to the new Bios over the Toshiba site. I did it, but the graphics still slooow. Slower than 3005 S307. And a big surprise:
The new Bios down the CPU speed about 25% when CPU become HOT.
I bought this notebook as a Pentium 1.1mhz not as 800mhz, but this is the speed that you can reach when you most need, because Toshiba put a desktop CPU. The 3005 S304/S307 have mobile CPU.
If you want a serios notebook don't buy 5005 S507 or any other notebook with desktop CPU...
At final analysis this is a good notebook but if you want a notebook to play, this is not the best.

Review: At first let me tell: I don't buy from Amazon.com.

Summary: A good value for money... and a great product from Toshiba
Review: Earlier I had an old notebook from Toshiba (Tecra series..).. after buying I am extremely satisfied by this product. Was earlier thinking of buying 5005-S504.. but spent some more money and bought S507..(...)

Graphics with nVidia 4 are great, a good sound system with harmon/kardon speakers. DVDs run great on 15" screen or on external display device as TV and 40GB is enough space for any Home office. I have no complain with this product so far.

Summary: Look at the specs
Review: Here's a look at some of the specs to show why this model is so competitively priced.

1. The GeForce 4 Go mobile with 32 MB runs on a 64 bit interface instead of 128
2. The bus speed is 100 instead of 133.
3. It has 256K Level 2 cache instead of 512.

Toshiba cut some corners to make this more affordable. But it's amazing that you do get the GeForce4, the built-in Harmon Kardon subwoofer, the beautiful UXGA screen, and many other features for this great price.

If you can spend more money you will find even better specs in the Satellite 5105-S607.

Summary: OVERHEATING PROBLEM
Review: I don't want to scare anyone out of purchasing this beautiful notebook, but before purchasing you should be aware that there is a problem with the 504 model and the 507 is the exact same model with new HD and GC. The problem is that the 504 randomly shuts down. Believed to be due to overheating of the desktop CPU. If you check the Toshiba user forum you will see that this problem is very wide spread and Toshiba is (believe it or not) not admitting to this problem....

This is a fantastic notebook and the only problem is that they decided to use this old pIII desktop processor that everyone is well aware gets very hot, well, everyone except those at Toshiba support. Now, your only question is: do you want to buy a notebook that has a known issue that is not resolved? I repeat check the forum and do not just take my word for it.

I decided to let you all in on the secret because I know from experience that I do not always purchase at Amazon, but I do always check there reviews 'cause I know Amazon customers care and stick together and Amazon will let you tell the truth.

Summary: nice notebook but...
Review: I love Toshiba laptops in general, and the features on this model lured me in, especially the huge hard drive, large RAM and great graphics card. However.....this is a *VERY* strange oversight on their part....they have placed in it a chip that requires serious cooling (the kind laptops never offer) after as little as 20 minutes of crunching. Without the cooling, the chip reaches its max temp quickly and then unceremoniously shuts down until it cools sufficiently, resulting in an annoying loss of data. Toshiba is not exactly forthright about the whole matter, but I have a trade in the works with them for a Toshiba that uses the *mobile* (MIII) chip that will solve the problem.
As far as I can see, there is no fix on the horizon, and so this model is soon destined for the dustbin.

Summary: Toshiba Satellite 5005-s507
Review: I own the -s504 and it has worked great. My only complaint was the graphics card could have been a bit better. The -s507 has come through with the blazing Nvidia GeForce 32DDR card. This is in my opinion the best mobile card on the market. They also threw in an extra 10 gig for the hard drive. This is an amazing laptop for the graphics design student and you can't knock the value.

Summary: There's a reason this Notebook was discontinued
Review: I was just about to buy a very nice Dell Inspiron when I came across an ad for the new S507, the first Notebook to sport the nVidia GeForcemx440Go. I had been having problems with ATI video cards in my desktops (ATI had a history of driver problems), so I suddenly changed horses in midstream and purchased the S507 on impulse.

As always, my impulses were lousy. First off, the positive: the Harmon-Kardon speakers are GREAT for a laptop. Not great for anything else, but they absolutely blow away the sound of any other laptop I've heard. Sadly, they are connected to a none-too-great Yamaha sound card instead of a Creative Labs Soundblaster product with EAX or strong audio accelleration.

That's the beginning of the bad. I soon found out that the MX440 is not a REAL GeForce4. It is in fact a "souped up" GeForce2 -- two generations old -- and the 32mb of video memory were quickly surpassed in the marketplace by 64mb laptop cards. Meanwhile the ATI Radeon mobility that I shunned has proven to be a champ.

Then there's the CPU issue. I didn't know until I read these reviews that there was a desktop CPU stuck in this thing, all I knew was that when the machine got hot, the performance PLUMMETTED. There are frequent sudden shutdowns, and games (only games, so perhaps the GeForce card is also a culprit -- I don't know because Toshiba tech support refused to help me) often won't run... they start to open, then minimize to the taskbar, teasing me with the audio while I can do nothing to get them to open back up from the taskbar. At those times, Task Manager shows that my CPU is running at 99% load.

I mentioned Tech Support -- there is none. I sent in a tech support request and two weeks later got a snide email from Toshiba stating that they can't reasonably be expected to test their product with every piece of software on the market, perhaps I should file a tech support request with the software maker. This ignored the fact that it happened with every game I ever tried to play on it.

In short, this was a waste of money, and it will take a lot to ever get me to try a Toshiba computer product again. My next laptop will be a Dell.
