Rating: Summary: Worst Computer Ever! Review: After having this computer for almost 9 months I have encountered some SERIOUS problems, it will not start up without being plugged in & having the keyboard banged on. Sent it to the "premier" service center in my state, got it back a week later with a new system board and the same problem. They tried ordering a power button board for it, but that was backordered so they just sent it back to me without the new power button board. Supposedly they started it up & shut it down about 4 times and it worked fine, why is it when I got it back that it still has the same problem? All you do to start it up is hold the button for a few seconds, don't know how its anything I'm doing that is wrong. Toshiba is no help, all they tell you is that you should either send it back to the same service center or directly to them & wait another 1-2 weeks. Who has that much time to be without a computer? Then toshiba's policy on PCMCIA adapter slots that have a flapper that falls in is to yank out both flappers & leave a hole there for you. This is per their plastic policy. Bunch of junk....make sure you have a premier service center in your city before buying if anything!

Rating: Summary: Great computer with one interesting problem... Review: First off, I'm very happy with the computer overall. It's nice, it's fast, and it's a good looking machine--except for its size. Although I highly recommend this computer, there are a couple of things some people might want to know concerning some of these machines. First, a minor thing: the fan on the left side is where the air comes out of, and it is quite warm and frequent, which keeps the comp cool, but anything near that side will get pretty warm. Second, and a big thing, is the video card, the ATI M6 card. I am not sure if the problem happens in every computer, but I've seen online many others with the same complaint. If you try to play one of the newer games--Warcraft III, Age of Mythology, etc--the computer will crash, give you a blue screen and restart shortly after you begin the game. Toshiba website has a driver that does not work, and no one appears to have the right driver for the card. However, there IS a solution.[...] For those of you who have this problem and have not solved it, go there. It was VERY helpful, and I'm glad the video card works now. Overall, though, it is a great computer that I still recommend.
Rating: Summary: Good All Around Value Review: Great price, good company, powerful, good software bundle, Worth the money. The integrated NIC is also a plus - hate those flimsy extended network cards.
Rating: Summary: JUNK! Review: I bought one from my friend 2 months ago, within the freakin hour I used it, it broke, the computer went off, no buttons pressed. It's 2x heavier than my current Dell 4100, and it's a heck of allot bigger. It's also unable to perform like 20 programs at a time, man. I gave it a 1, because it's junk...
Rating: Summary: This is in reference to the model 1905-S301 Review: I got the 1905-S301 which shares the same specs as the 1905-S303. The best feature of this notebook is its battery life. I got 2hours and 50 minutes playing DVDs and 3hours and 20min normal use. Note that I only set the screen to power saving mode and all other hardware were functioning at full power.I read a lot about the battery before. Some said it lasted long, other said it did not. I run the test for myself. I previously had an HP ze5155 (1.8ghz, 512mb ram, 40gb HD, 32mb video ram). But the battery life sucked. I only got 1hour and 30 minutes playing DVDs and 2hours normal use. Toshiba uses a 12-cells battery while HP uses an 8-cells battery. The toshiba battery has a 33% higher capacity than the HP battery. I also got my notebook for $993 at bestbuy.com after tax and $600 rebates. Yes, that was a deal for a 2ghz, 256mb ram, 40gbs HD, firewire, 16mb dedicated video card, 15" screen laptop.
Rating: Summary: OK but not great. Good deal for the money. Review: I had 1600 allowance for a new laptop so I got the 1905-S303. Powerfull processor, lots of memory, nice screen.... a good value overall. However it has some major drawbacks: Very heavy and bulky. Would not fit in my old case. No PS2 support, you have to buy a USB mouse and keyboard. No support for a port replicator or docking station. I think I should have got the HP ze5185.
Rating: Summary: Great Laptop Saves me Money Review: I have had my Toshiba for a little over a month. The system works wonderfully (that's the one star I gave it), but it's so poorly built (thus no further stars). 1. I ended up with one bad pixel on my LCD screen. Toshiba told me I have to have 3 in order for them to fix it. It's in a spot that is not obvious, but sad for the [$$]I dished out for it. Didn't feel happy about 'settling' with it. 2. 'Both' USB ports fell apart. The tabs inside each port snapped off. The funny part, I have only used one port out of the two since I got it, and I have been extremely careful with handling them (they looked cheap). My little sisters PS2 USB ports are built better then these are. 3. Finally, the DVD/CD drive door is so cheap. If you have a young teen using this...kiss the door goodbye. I'm an adult, and I am EXTRA careful opening and closing the drive with fear it will snap off any day now. If you have a young adult that will use this - keep this in mind. My 15 year old sister would have trashed the door ten times over already. I now have no computer becasue I have to mail it to Toshiba. They say one week, but we will have to see. Toshiba had great Customer Service, (like everyone claims), but what's the point when the thing is put together in such a cheap way. If you get a GOOD one, you'll be VERY pleased. The thing works great. It's fast and handles all my software like an ace, but if you get a BAD one, get ready to have things slowly start to fall apart on you. Toshiba claims I need a whole new motherboard and I will lose everything on my hard drive that I have put on it to date. Very annoying. Amazon Help was useless and kept sending me 'from the book' answers to my very decent emails. Finally, Amazon did offer to return my money, but wouldn't exchange it for a new one for me??? Meaning after the refund I would have to re buy it. That makes no sense to me. They are just making it complicated. Sorry I bough this unit.
