Summary: Not too shabby for the price
Review: After many years ... well 2 years ... and much heartache, I 86-ed my Compaq Presario laptop, and bought the Vaio FXA63. Much to my surprise, this little box did everything I wanted. Game performance was fine, and I found the graphics to be quite acceptable. Love being able to put 2 batteries in it. Best of all: Solaris x86 runs on it like a dream. (Get the realtek driver and XFree86 drivers and away you go.) Snappy little box; envy of all my working friends (except those who upgraded to the FVR-28). Wish it had a bigger drive and DVD writer, but for a year ago it was awesome.

Summary: Amazing display but very poor hardware and support.
Review: At (less than) this price the HP Pavilion xt125 is a better choice. The 1.4 GHz Athlon XP "1600+" isn't a bad CPU but it lacks SSE2, and important feature for future software currently only found in Intel CPUs (AMD is adding it into their CPUs next year).

The main problems are:
The ATI Rage graphics are weak and out of date (don't even try to run a new game on it). The ATI MOBILITY RADEON 7500C is much faster and will even run 3D games smoothly.

The SDRAM is being run a 200MHz. This memory is not very stable at that speed and gets very hot. You are better off with faster and more efficient DDRAM which runs at a slower speed but sends more data so it drains less power from the battery, runs cooler, and pumps more data to your CPU. Sony is just cutting cost here at the consumer's expense.

I used to like Sony laptops but they are just trading on their name these days.

Summary: There are better laptops at this price, avoid this one

Summary: One headache after another...
Review: I bought this computer one year ago and have lost an unacceptable amount of time trying to fix its many problems. First, VAIOs are known for having DVD sound problems. Mine was no exception. Second, this VAIO does not operate properly with many common programs, especially Adobe Photoshop(it shuts itself off in the middle of work). Third, the battery life is so low as to be an embarrassment. Fourth problem with the VAIO = NOT ENOUGH MEMORY - thinking I wouldn't need more than a 20 gig hardrive was a big mistake! Shop around for your next laptop and DON'T buy a Sony VAIO. You will be sorry.

Summary: Its not a bad machine, but they do get better
Review: I bought this expecting more, don't get me wrong it is a good notebook, but shop around. The hard drives are too small, the track pad is a pain in my ___, And I HATE Windows,(Microsoft in general) If this had 160GB drive(s) and RedHat Linux 9 I would love it....but..no!
Avoid Windows products at all costs, espically XP(nothing but 2000's bug fix's...if that!!) True computer nuts know what I mean. But if you are on a budget, and like Windows(ugggh) this is not a bad choice..like I said shop around and compare.

Summary: Best laptop yet
Review: I don't know why everyone is complaining about this laptop. It is by far the best laptop I have owned yet out of Compaq, HP, and IBM. This is not a gaming laptop by any means, but you DON'T buy a laptop for gaming. This laptop is designed for work/college use and it hasn't done me wrong yet. Granted I replaced Windows XP with 2000, it has great performance. I have never had this laptop crash, I have never had noise issues. The only thing about it is that if you let it on your lap for 2 hours, it can get mighty toasty. So to the point - You don't buy a laptop for gaming! You buy a desktop with power for that. This laptop has great graphics and speed. I highly recommend any sony vaio!

Summary: Looking for an alrounder laptop? Get this
Review: I just bought this laptop a couple of days ago, and I can't say anything else but I love it!!
It is extremely quiet (hardly any HD noise) and all the multimedia features on it were just what I was looking for.

I've been working with IBM laptops before this, and I must say that this is more of a home laptop than the IBM's just because you can do anything you want with it because of the multimedia options.
The only "bad" thing in the package is WP office, as the whole world is using MS Office, but that's just a matter of getting MS Office.

Summary: Amazing display but very poor hardware and support.
Review: I purchase Sony Vaio and had high opinion regarding Sony products. But, I was very disappointed with this product. My hard disk was very noisy and I had to send it for repair, they replaced my hardware with refurbished parts and sent it back. When I received the Laptop, the keyboard was out of place and body had scratches on it and I had to send it back again. The technical support people at times are extremely rude that it is unbelievable, after request to call before they ship the item back they sent it right back without calling us. The letter it came back with had no clear explanation of what was fixed.

Even when I called back, after 35 mins of hold a very rude person replied my phone and this was not the first time I had experienced this with their technical support. I have spent lot of hours just rebuilding this laptop, waiting on phone and downtime when I had to ship for repair. I feel sorry for buying this product.

The display is amazing but that is about it, rest of the hardware is okay and you will have many incompatibly issues with this laptop. I would rather buy a Dell or Toshiba but never again another Sony Laptop
