Summary: Good - but more of bad
Review: Bad things:-
1. All usb ports on the left side - make sure to buy a mouse with long cable
2. External cable connection next to CD drive - why complicate things dear SONY
3. Many keys not working - Just after two months. Am still try to figure out the SONY dealer in ISRAEL.
4. There is no International free one year service like what TOSHIBA offers.

Summary: Vaio thoughts
Review: Fastest machine I've ever used for video games and programming. Hooked up with a Cable Connection and high speed internet action, I've got state-of-the-art power. A little large for a laptop, but probably because of its speakers, built in. Performance of XP on it is very reliable, crashing at most once a week. When it does crash, not very graceful. Sometimes when it has been on a while, it refuses to shut down, and must be DQ'd. Otherwise, no complaints really. Does NOT appear to come with adequate virus protection. Figures. I've compared and considered about 15 machines since, including popular items such as HP and Dell, and even after 6 months, I still have no regrets. Two and a half thumbsup.

Review: for 1500 dollars, i recieved a very fast, aesthetically pleasing laotop with modern capabilities. it is a little heavier than some competitors, but, oh well that is trivial. i love it!

Summary: PCG-FRV25 Power Supply is HUGE!!!
Review: I am returning several PCG-FRV25 units today due to the very, very large power supply. The biggest laptop power supply I have ever seen. I suggest looking at the power supply before purchasing this laptop. It literally will not fit in our current briefcases that we used to carry our old VAIO laptops. I bought a PCG-V505BX at the same time and the power supply is the smallest I have ever seen.

Summary: very poor customer service, below average hardware
Review: I have had the Vaio for several months, and the software installed on Vaio has finally crashed out completely. Sony now freely admits the cd recovery disk program included with the machine does not work, in fact has never worked, and they still want you to shell out 60 bucks for the cd recovery kit, which takes up to four weeks for delivery.

The Keyboard on my unit arrived with the 'delete' key not working, and Sony told me that since I had purchased it mail order, I would have to send it to them for repair, and it would take three mothns MINIMUM to fix. I have instead learned to live without a delete key.

Overall, a very poor experience with Sony. I will stick to Toshiba or Dell in the future, companies who were far more supportive of their products and customers.

Summary: Excellent Product
Review: I just bought this laptop yesterday from Circuit city, and it is beautiful.

The only reason I'vnt given it 5 stars is because out of the 512Mb DDR Ram, 64Mb is used for the Video Card, which I wasn't expecting and haven't seen it clearly stated anywhere. Otherwise it's a beautiful machine and for the price and the features, well worth it. After all it's a Sony :-)

Summary: An amazing piece of technology and craftsmanship
Review: I looked at the Dell, great price but I didn't like it's looks. It was too "blue". The Compaq was too whimpy in power and their customer service sucks at Hewlitt-Packard. And Gateway is too expensive for their lap tops. I wasn;t about to pay 2 thousand bucks....

Sony has always been a name brand best seller in the line-up of electronics. I can hook up my Sony digital camera to my lap top, and then I can print stunning pictures from my lap top to my photo printer. So basically this lap top is a desk top replacement that serves a variety of applications.

The BEST thing about this lap top is this... I am in college and live in a tiny dorm room. So this lap top is great for watching dvds and movies. No more dvd player and wires hooked up to the tv set. Finally, this lap top is great because I can download my music, and burn a cd which I can then pop into my cd player in my car and cruise on down the road!

A smart buy for any college student like myself!

Summary: Goodbye, Desktop... Hello, Notebook!!
Review: I purchased this laptop from Ebay last week (10/24/03) for $1,125 from a seller who bought it just two months earlier and paid hundreds more. I was tired of maintaining both a home and work desktop, so I decided to make the switch to a laptop. My old desktops had just about the same specs as this laptop (P4 2.6GHz, 512 RAM, etc). Although I expected this laptop to run a lot slower than my desktop systems, I was surprised at how fast this machine actually is. So far, I haven't had any problems with this notebook. I immediately wiped the hard drive and partitions, got rid of all that Sony stuff and Windows Home, then installed a clean copy of Windows/Office XP Pro on a single partition. I now have all 40GB of space to work with and the system is running even faster than before without all that Sony software. I love almost everything about this Vaio and I'm glad I decided on purchasing it after looking at comparable models from Dell, Toshiba, Compaq, etc. I'm also happy I finally made the switch to using a notebook.

My only complaints so far:

1) No docking station?

2) The power cord sticks out of the right side of the system, possibly interfering with your mousing

3) No software CDs were included, so I lost all factory-installed software when installing a clean copy of Windows XP Pro

Summary: Great laptop, but the ilink is really bad...
Review: I recently bought this VAIO to replace my desktop, and so far it has surpassed almost every aspect of it...
It is heavier and louder than most laptops but when you are edtiting video you need a very powerful machine, and the FRV25 is no exception...
...the weird thing is that the ilink is ONLY for video capture!

I use firewire hard drives and the fastest data rate through the ilink is 3.6 MBs/s and not my usual 15-20 MBs/s... I found this rather unusual... I mean why would you even have to limit the bandwidth of the firewire port? that's just damn crazy!

The good news is that I scored a firewire PCMIA port and hooked it through there, so everything is good......

But if you're not into video editing, this is probably one of the slickest laptops available in this price range.

Thanx, SONY!

Summary: awful experience with sony
Review: I'd avoid this machine. The series has chronic cooling fan problems. Customer service is great: if you don't mind spending 12 HOURS on the phone before getting authorization to send them the computer for repair. Mine came back with a defective fan. The time wasted wasn't worth the price of the computer.
