Rating: Summary: Best Computer Sony ever made Review: it's so light weight, good for travel, the harddisk is big enough to put what ever you want, and the screen is so clean and bright, i read some people talk about they change the resolution from origal 1400x1050 to 1024x768 or something like that! i can tell that they don't know well about LCD, whith the LCD how the resolution they setup up,then you should just keep it that way, because that's how LCD work,it's not like CRT monitor can change what ever you want,if you do it will make the screen look fuzzy, anyway, the CPU is good enough, the performance is good enough for a LAPTOP and for most user, blutooth build-in, this laptop almost have all the feature you need, if you want more, $$ is the thing you will need. i have this laptop for one weeks and i do everything i can do to test it! i can say, once you have it, i will love it!!
Rating: Summary: Sony Sucks Review: NOTE: SONY does not recommend or support an upgrade path to Microsoft's Windows XP Professional operating system for VAIO PCs originally shipped with the Windows 95/98/98SE or ME environment. Currently Windows XP Professional upgrades are only supported for systems pre-installed with Windows 2000 Professional or XP Home Editions. Both Microsoft and SONY do not support an upgrade from Windows 2000 Professional to Windows XP Home Edition.

Rating: Summary: Awesome Notebook, Great Features, Worth the Money! Review: Okay, alot of people are saying that 1.6 GHz is not enough, but with the Centrino processor, the machine runs like a 2.3 GHz machine. It is fast and there is plenty of room for all of you applications and multimedia. The notebook itself is thin and light. It is about 4 pounds in weight, and does not heat up your lap. It is also very comfortable as I am typing this up! The shift key is too small, but I am getting the hang of it. The features are awesome. My unit has Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Memory Card reader, and DVD/CD-RW drives. All in all, a great unit. You should take advantage of the current rebates.
Rating: Summary: 2x more RAM, faster CPU, bigger HD, same price as IBM T40! Review: Once again Sony is the leader in price/performance. For the same price as an IBM T40 (actually the Sony is $100 less comparing Amazon.com prices), you get TWO TIMES MORE MEMORY (512 mb ram vs. 256 on the IBM), a FASTER CPU (1.6ghz. vs 1.5 on the IBM T40), a BIGGER HARD DISK (60gb vs. 40gb on the IBM). Plus as a bonus you get a FIREWIRE port onboard, along with two USB 2.0. (the IBM does not include firewire). Top top all this, the Sony VAIO weights LESS than the IBM and is visually more attractive. The software selection is better, too!. What more can you ask?.
Rating: Summary: Very happy with the laptop--and earlier problems resolved Review: Shopped extensively--trips to stores, to sites, to reviews, to newsgroups--and believed this was the right machine, with the best feature set, a great (very low) weight, good battery life, and an attractive, functional design. After having it for a few weeks, have become even more convinced that this is the right machine for my needs: Very lightweight, amazing battery life (aided by well-designed power management software), and eye-catching--and functional--design. Unlike some other posts, haven't experienced any problems with the screen resolution (though it results in text that is small relative to what you may be used to), screen colors, or touchpad. (Important note: Had problems earlier that were diagnosed as a motherboard failure. This wasn't the case; there were no hardware or Sony software problems, and Sony customer service and Sony Vaio management went out of their way to help diagnose and resolve the problem, which was with an access point, not the PC at all. Haven't ever had any company do as much as Sony did to bring this to a speedy resolution. Kudos.)
Rating: Summary: Too bad it hurts the eyes Review: This computer is awesome when it comes to power, mobility, and exterior design. At 4.7 lbs., it is very light. Of all the centrinos out there, this is definitely the most eye catching. The only problem is that it can destroy the eyes as well. The native resolution for this computer is 1400x1050 which is great if you are a graphic designer. However, for those of us that use a computer to surf the web or type up documents, the resolution is unreasonable since text and graphics are almost 50% smaller compared to other 14.1" screens out there. Sony should have kept the native resolution at 1024x768 like most other computer manufacturers...this would prevent one from having to squint at the screen. One can manually change the screen's resolution to 1024x768 but since it's not native, details get blurred and text becomes fuzzy. I will return mine and wait till Sony releases a lower resolution version for real world users...I really wish I could keep it, but squinting at the screen can get tiresome.
Rating: Summary: A laptop you'll love... Review: Until now, I've not been brand loyal about laptops. I now call my laptop, "my Sony." I have had one other Sony, my Z1's immediate predecessor (also great), and and a slew of other laptops of many brands (none of which were terribly impressive). I love my Z1!!! It's designed for human beings (imagine that) and it performs splendidly--think "the BMW of laptops." I'm using it now--it's got the perfect slant; the location of the buttons and features makes sense; it doesn't get hot under my palms as I type on its responsive and near-silent keyboard; it boasts an amazing LCD screen; it's a great size (I had the 12-inch before, a little small if it's your only machine) and it's beautiful...all that before you get to technological capacity (which, by itself, is amazing). I use it as my primary machine for business (my business), and I just started shooting video and using editing software with digital photos--for use with Publisher and PowerPoint. All can run simultaneously without problems. I love being able to get on the net from anywhere--although I do get a little interference when multiple competing wireless nodes are around (what a problem to have--too many competing signals!!). I did not get the extended battery, but the regular one lasts the entire length of a cross country flight (though not one to Europe). Use this machine, and you will never again underestimate the value of good design.
