Summary: Use at your own risk
Review: I got my T40 (512mb ram) last summer. After working well for a few months, the hard drive and motherboard went bad and I had to send it back for repairs. After getting it back, it worked well once more, but now I am having frequent problems with overheating when running intensive applications. I would recommend buying another brand with similar specs - thinkpads are overpriced anyway.

Summary: Great computer, even for the money
Review: While I've typically found IBM laptops to be slightly overpriced, and while I had a negative experience with an old X model, the T40 is worth its weight in gold. It doesn't overheat like most laptops (probably due to the Centrino processor), so you can actually use it on your lap (major bonus), the battery life is fantastic, even when using battery intensive apps like media players, ppt, etc. My only complaint is that when dealing with graphics apps like Fireworks, Freehand, etc., the computer does slow down. I don't really see this as that much of a fault as these programs were really designed to run on faster desktops with more RAM. I've dropped the T40 about a dozen times, and still no problem. Chalk it up to luck if you will, but until I'm proven otherwise, and even though its slightly ugly, I'm an IBMer for life. BTW, much better customer service than Dell or Compaq, at least in my opinion.
