Review: I am "re-reviewing my review" just to give better opinion on HP laptop. Assuming 2-3 years of life for the laptop, overall I am
happy with my system.Here are the pros and cons of this system:
+ Good price for the functionality and configuration I got.
+ Very nice resolution. - Rebooting unexpectedly due to some hardware problem. This happens once a month (both on Windows and Linux OS).
- Battery life is quite poor. After using this system for nearly 3 years, on batter its dying in 15-20 minutes at most.
- Keyboard needs some tap at bottom, else stops working sometimes.
- Screen is flickering when connected to power. Probably connection is getting loose. Given the period and to the extend I used this system, i don't have much complain on this. Soon it will be the time to go for another HP laptop ;-)

Review: I am re-reviewing this to give updated views on HP laptop. Considering expected 2-3 years of life (exacerbated by my extensive usage), overall I am happy with my system with moderate rating.
Here are the pros and cons of this system:
+ Good price for the functionality and configuration I got in the given price.
+ Very nice resolution.
- Its getting rebooted without any known reasons. It happened 8-10 times in last 2 years and must have been hardward problem as
it happens with Windows and Linux on this laptop. My friend bought HP laptop in 2003 (2 years after I bought) and that problem is still there in HP which is NOT good.
- Battery life quite poor and now it runs out in just 10-20 minutes. I believe battery needs to be cultivated which I didn't
in the begining.
Given the duration and to the extend I used this system, i don't have much complain on this. But I will certainly consider other manufacturer for my next laptop.

Review: I can't make any comparisons to other laptops cause this is my very first. I can say that HP has stuffed a lot into such a small package and I like that they've included Norton 2002 antivirus. The DVD player is nifty cause it's portable and I thought the graphics and sound were great. It's a desktop computer that you can take with you.

Summary: Not all that great...
Review: I wish I could rave about this computer like so many others who reviewed this model, but alas, mine is not a success story. After reading the glowing reviews, I ordered the HP zt1180 notebook. As promised, the screen was superb, it has a very sleek look and the battery lasted longer than my previous laptop, which I was very pleased about. But the minute I tried to watch a DVD to put it to the test, my heart sank: a jerkier picture you never saw in your life! Not to mention the sound that skipped along with the video. I was horrified. I had ordered the zt1170 before and I had been able to watch a DVD with no problem, though I had to return it because there was a problem with the CD player (it made clicking noises). After this, I was done with HP. I just ordered the highly rated Toshiba 1905 S277, a Pentium IV, which is the latest thing out there and supposedly blows the competition to smithereens. Should be getting it any day now. Can't wait!!

Review: If you have need for a laptop as a desktop, then this is your machine. I have had mine for two weeks, and there is nothing that this machine cannot do! Blazing speed (Pentium III - M 1.2 GHz) and enormous amounts of RAM (512) make this machine perform like no other. The display is smaller because the resolution is so high, but it is so crisp that you will adjust quickly! One feature that is not included in any of the specs that I have read is that there is a scrolling bar separate from the touchpad. The software bundle that comes with the computer is limited, but beyond that, there is nothing that I haven't been able to do on this marvel of technology.

Review: It would be in your best interest to check out this or other HP notebook computers before you make a purchase. I tried other brands and none compare to the HP zt1180! Two of the other brands I thought about purchasing had defects right out of the box, plus many of the features were ackwardly placed. One had the external audio jack placed in the front right side. If you're a right-handed person and have an audio cable attached, it interferes with the mouse. Also, one had a door covering the rear connectors that was hard to open and keep open while connecting external devices. The HP zt1180 has all the right controls/connectors in the right places. They are easily accessable and easy to use. Only negative is the limited software package. HP should have at least included an anti-virus program, plus if you are previous Quicken user, you have to purchase the upgrade via the Internet. The packaged verson is only for new users and will not convert your current data. Aside from the bundled software, the HP zt1180 Pavilion notebook is an outstanding computer that will serve you well on the road or at home.

Summary: More bang for the buck!
Review: This system is probably the best value on the market. You get all the features you want at a price you can afford without being worried if it's going to be completely obsolete within a couple of years. The 15" SXGA display is beautiful, the hard drive has more than enough room, the dvd will keep you entertained, and the CD-RW will let you rip your music and take it with you. Copious amount of memory and fast PIII processor keeps you speeding along. Also, you get three USB ports (two in back, one front-left-side), firewire port (back-right-side), integrated LAN and modem (both jacks near the firewire), TV out, monitor out, parallel port, audio out, microphone in (all in the back). Headphones (front-left). Also one Type II or III card slot (left side). Easy access one-touch buttons, reset button (missing on most laptops). Also the pointer touch pad has a scroll bar which makes it incredibly easy to scroll through documents (without having to try to make sure you stay on the right side of the pad) Downsides (things that made it a 4 instead of 5):
There is no dedicated video memory. It is shared with the main memory at either 8, 16 or 32 megs. This doesn't really cause many problems with the system, but you may notice some slow down on really graphic intensive 3d games. The DVD drive won't play @ 32 bit color. You have to down the display colors to 16-bit to watch movies (I actually had this trouble when I first got the computer, then it worked at 32-bit for a day, then it stopped). When the fan comes on, it can be a little noisy, not too bad, but noticeable. I expected more from the polk audio speakers. They sound like typical laptop speakers, a bit tinny, little crackle-pops every so often, and no bass whatsoever. You'll definitely want headphones when you're on the road and listening to cds, radio, etc;, invest in some inexpensivedesktop speakers for you house (something with a little bass and richness, but nothing fancy). Things that weren't a show stopper for me:
No diskette drive. But you can get one for about 50, and the laptop comes with a 49.99 rebate on the drive if you buy one. No mouse/keyboard input. Use a USB mouse if you're going to get one. I plan to buy a Numeric keypad, so it'll have to be USB. If you think you'll need a keyboard, you'll probably want to get a docking station anyway. Would have liked to have had 2 PC Card inputs. there's room for it where the one slot is, so I don't know why they didn't put in in. It's a great notebook. Consider the things I said, you can't beat this price with all these features. happy shopping!
