Review: HP customer support is fine, and as far as the other reviews go that guy is a complete moron. YOur data is YOUR duty to backup not hewlett packard's or any other companys for that matter, dell, sony, gateway, all these companys treat hard drives the same way. Get over it and read your warranty before you buy these types of items. No one ever reads the paperwork. When you buy a new car you read the paperwork right? So why not with a 1000 to 2000 dollar pc? its your fault bub.

Signed and ex hp tech support rep ;)

Summary: NICE LAPTOP
Review: I bought mine at Circuit City for 700 and I absolutely love mine. Had no problems with it so far. It is a little big compared to the ibook i used to have, but overall its a great computer. The 1.8ghz is fast enough and the computer does have a kind of velocity engine to speed up your applications so it is just as fast as a p4 compatible. Overall great laptop. Good for college students, not for really serious users. Not good for games either.

Summary: Huge Bang for Small Bucks
Review: I have had my ze4610us for six months, and its function and reliablilty have been excellent. The unit has sold me on AMD chips, and I gave my desktop to the kids: This is all the computer that any one other than a design engineer needs.
The display is excellent, as is battery life. The processor performs on a par with much higher rated Pentiums, and flat out stomps the Celerons. The unit is not perfect, the keyboard is stiff and hard to reach, and it needs more ram (it ships with 256 - 64 mg of which is used by graphics card) but over all, I am extremely pleased. I use the ze4610 for word processing, photo editing, and real time strategy games; the latter two of which take huge amounts of processor power. I would recommend this product to any one who wants a power portable or desktop replacement on a budget.

Summary: Beware - awful customer service from HP
Review: I recently bought an HP laptop, but ran into a disk failure about a month ago. I then made the total mistake of trusting what I was told by the HP customer care folks about what to do regarding repairing the hard drive while preserving whatever data may still be retrievable on it.

Because my machine was still under warranty, I was inclined (and encouraged) to send it into HP for examination and repair if necessary. I did so, but as time went on I had to call them repeatedly to find out what the repair status was (their online system for status checking service orders does NOT work), and wrangled with their phone support about getting them to call me once my machine had been examined and diagnosed. All I wanted was to avoid having them throw out my old hard disk, or to reformat it.

In the end, they never called, and simply threw out my old hard drive completely against my wishes. Of course, I had never been told, despite my half-dozen previous phonecalls, that discarding bad drives was company policy. So now, I find myself a victim of HP's indifference and ineptitude. Ask yourself - if something goes wrong with your laptop, do you really want to trust a customer service that is as willing to lie to you and brush you off when it suits their interests as HP does?

Besides, even when it works, it's really not that great a laptop. You'd probably do much better with most any other brand. HPs are heavy, the battery doesn't live long. And considering the questionable quality, you sure pay a lot.

Summary: At 900, not really a value notebook
Review: I tried this notebook at Circuit City, it is very fast at running Office applications, noticeably faster than my P4 2.4GHz Inspiron 8500. The unit looked good, and was light enough. The screen was ok but did not shine really, it would only be sharp when looking at a 90 degree angle.

However, given that you need to add another 256MB of RAM and a wireless card, the current price does not make it a good value.

P.S. The Amazon description is totally off, it corresponds to another system (probably the ze4420).

Summary: Excellent easy to use notebook
Review: I was a little worried about buying my first laptop after only using desktop pc's...I didn't really know what to look for. After a lot of research, this HP seemed to offer the most features for the money.

I have now had my ze4610us for over 6 months and have had absolutely no problems with it. I primarily use it at home for surfing the net and general household stuff, so I can't attest to how it would be as a highly mobile business machine, but the battery life is excellent, much longer than the 4 hours the salesman told me. The screen is bright and clear, I have had no problems with the keyboard, and I prefer the touchpad to a tracker, but about 1/4 of the time the scroll feature doesn't work.

I do wish it had internal wireless, but a card and router were not that much, and still made the notebook an excellent price for the features.

Summary: Excellent Entry Level Laptop
Review: I'v had my HP Pavilion ze4610us about a month now and I'm very satisfied with it. It was my first ever laptop purchase (I've been thru four or five desktop systems). I probably would have waited even longer to finally get a laptop, but the 400 dollars of rebates that were available at the time of purchase made it impossible to resist.
I'm not a heavy gamer or media user; I use it mostly for light business and personal use and as a portable DVD player when I'm on the road. (I love the DVD player software with the screen capture feature; I save pic's from my favorite films and use them as wallpaper and screensavers. Cool!)

No real complaints so far for what I use it for. (I did buy an extended warranty, having heard that laptops in general have some reliability issues. The warranty is cancellable at a prorated amount depending on how long I keep it. If you have any experience/comments on that, you can e-mail me.)
I've gotten over 3 hours of battery life with the way I use the laptop, which I think is reasonable.
My only minor irritations so far are things which may be perfectly normal for laptops in general (with my limited experience, I wouldn't know.)They are: sound level is OK at home or in a quiet environment, but road noise while traveling makes listening very difficult. I've tried my old headphones; maybe I just need better ones. Also, the screen can be difficult to see, depending on lighting conditions. (Again, that may be normal.)
In any case, although I've only had my HP Pavilion ze4610us a short time yet, for those whose usage is similar to mine I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it, especially if you can get a good discount and/or rebates.
P.S. - I've just purchased a wireless card and router which I will try to install soon. If I can, I'll update this review after I see how that goes.
