Rating: Summary: HP Pavilion zt3250us Notebook PC Review: MUCH faster than its processor speed indicates. In fact, it seems to load and run programs a tad quicker than my 2.8 GHz Celeron desktop (same amount of RAM). I can now play a movie in one window and open Word or Excel in another without the annoying lag jitters; I believe this has to do with the dedicated video memory. When watching DVD, the widescreen size and resolution makes me wonder why I paid nearly a grand for my Panasonic portable player! The screen is bright with sharp contrast and wide viewing angles (more so horizontal than vertical). Sound is terribly weak in the low frequency range, but adequate in the mids and highs. Some noticeable distortion occurs with the volume cranked, but not bad overall for laptop speakers. Unlike their current desktops, which have a dedicated memory hogging partition on the hard drive, HP (thankfully) has placed system recovery out on CD. The scroll pad was a major selling point for me; without it you'll sorely miss your wheel-mouse, especially for Word and internet. The touch pad is functional and a major stress reliever; you just give it a quick tap or double-tap with your finger and it emulates a left mouse click or double-click. The dedicated on/off button is a nice feature that keeps you from having to tape a credit card over the touch pad to type without pointer interference. The built in WiFi in 2 words: it works. Final advice, this thing has 5-finger discount written all over it; don't forget to buy a security cable!
