Rating: Summary: Nice laptop, but screen specs are in error Review: For those shopping by spec, for some reason the LCD specs are messed up in many sources, including Amazon currently. Just looked at models in a store, and neither the 2710 nor the 2715 have "native" 1600x1200 LCDs. The screens are 1400 x 1050. There is indeed a setting for 1600x1200, but this merely allows the 1400x1050 screen to pan across the larger area. You may also want to know that the 2715 has 16M video RAM vs the 2710's 8M, which would be important if you are expecting to use dual-monitor desktop mode.
Rating: Summary: Do not buy this!!!!!!!!! Review: Hi,I had bought this from [retail store]. After a day two pixels burnt on the screen. I exchanged it for another one. The CD/RW didnt work on the second one. Exchanged it for a third one. This one had one big red spot on the screen (burnt pixel) when I opened the box. My patience was running out. I still got the 4th one after exchange. This one did the same thing. Pixel burnt again. I called Compaq for explanation. They said they consider it normal till 5 burnt pixels. And they will not fix it until more than 5 pixels are burnt. I am glad that I bought it from the store so I could return it. I have exchanged 4 laptops in 3 weeks and wasted a lot of time. Please dont buy this if you want a perfect screen. Kamlesh.
Rating: Summary: Solid powerhouse Review: I bought a Compaq 2700 series computer about a month go, and I've been extremely pleased with it. It is a real powerhouse rivaling my desktop XP1800+ system. The screen, keyboard and sound are excellent. The system has excellent build quality. During the last month, I've been running the system hard night and day. I've run some programs that had the CPU running 100% for 8 hours at a stretch. It has been absolutely solid. I've never had a hang or crash -- it's performance is flawless. I highly recommend this system to anyone looking for a powerful system and willing to carry an 8-pound notebook.
Rating: Summary: Great as a desktop replacement Review: I bought a Compaq 2715, and it works great for me. It has an amazing resolution and very good screen. The only cons are the weight and the lack of SPDIF port. As far as weight is concerned, it is heavy, and it more like a desktop replacment and should never be intended as a mobile notebook. But overall, you get a lot for the buck (also look at the s/w that comes along).
Rating: Summary: Poor reliability Review: I bought a new Compaq Presario 2715US from Ubid. I like all features of the laptop, specially its video and sound quality, seperated DVD and CD-RW drivers, an spare battery. But I quickly found I could not write CD-RW or CD-R disk using its CD-RW driver. After many tries and lost four CD-R disks, I wrote Compaq support and Got their response after one hour (much better than HP). They suggested me to download upgrade software from Roxio. I installed downloaded upgraded firmware and new application. I still could not write CD-RW. Finally I returned the laptop and bought a HP pavilion zt1185. The hard disk of the 2715us also make load click noise even when the machine is idle. The removeable CD-RW driver is difficulty to remove. It is also heavy.
Rating: Summary: Watch the screen resolution! Review: I bought the 2700 thinking that the only differences between it and the 2701 were memory and hard disk, but the 2700 only goes to 1024x768 resolution. (The 2701 goes to 1400x1050.) Nothing on the net (here or at Compaq.com) says anything about this. Other than that, it's a nice but heavy laptop, as others have said. Having a separate DVD and CD-R is a bit waistful, but doesn't annoy me too much. The mouse pad is nice to use, the display is great, and the thing looks beautiful. It doesn't have a serial port, which seems to be a trend in new laptops. This was a problem with a GPS box I got at the same time. I've had no problems with the machine so far.

Rating: Summary: This laptop is Great!!!!!!!!!!!!! Review: I bought this laptop about 3 months ago, and it's perfect for everything I do. I use it for games, 16mb of memory on Presario 2715us is very good for games, but in presario 2700us, and 2710 there is only 8mb of video memory wich is not enough for good new games. Speed on Presario 2715 is enough for every game, and every program, It has 2cd-rom drives, wich is so convenient. You can watch DVD, and record something at the same time. The quality of DVD player is so clear, even clearer then in Sony, and DELL. It is a bit heavy to carry around, but it is perfect for replacing desktop. 15" of display size is great. The only problem I see is that if I want to use a floppy disk, I need to take one cd drive of. The same goes for second battery. Battery life is very long. 3hours, and after three hours the screen becomes darker, and darker, and darker every minute. I'll give you one advise. ...Watch, it's really heavy if you want to carry it back and fourth.
Rating: Summary: College Student/Video Editor Desktop Replacement Review: I got this computer to take to class for notes, communicate on a high-speed network, entertainment, and to edit digital videos. I've had it for less than a week but I love all that it does with the power of Windows XP. If you have the $$ for a high end desktop replacement you may want to wait for the faster Pentium IV notebooks with Rambus (RDRAM) or DDR. Everything works great; don't forget to go to //windowsupdate.microsoft.com to keep it up to date and keep the personal information flowing to M$. Networking via the firewire port hosts the fastest file transfers I have ever seen. Sound quality is good enough for my taste, video flows fluidly, DVD playback works better with MS Windows Media Player than with the provided software. Notable: must remove a cd drive to put in the floppy disk drive or second battery. It is also a little heavier than some of the other laptops out there. The adapter that plugs into the wall goes through a small box a little larger than a deck of playing cards like so: pc--------[=]---------wall. After a short while one of the pixels on the display will only glow green, it isn't very noticeable though and this is something that occurs with almost every flat panel screen whether on a laptop or desktop flat panel display. It takes a careful hand to snap CDs into the drive too. This model is similar to the 2701 so comments to that model are also applicable here.
Rating: Summary: Great Computer. Review: I know this review is late and this computer is already out of date, but I have had this 2715US for 2 years and it has worked flawlessly. No problems at at. If you are looking for a good used computer this is the one to have. The dual optical drives are great. The CDRW works great. I have probably burnt 50 or more CD's. The DVD is great with very good screen resolution. We use the computer as a in car DVD player on road trips. It keeps the kids entertained. Games work great. Tomb Raider AOD has worked great, without any problems, as well as Medal of Honor. I have it networked with 2 other computers with out any problems. So far I have experienced no PIXEL BURN OUT as previously mentioned in other reviews. I have 2 other computers, a desktop P3 1.13 and a XXXX noterbook with a Athlon 1.0 GH cpu and the 2715US is a lot faster and more reliable than the other 2. My wifes prefers this computer to her XXXX laptop. The mouse works great. The speakers sound excellent comparabel with some portable boom boxes. I could go on an on. I highly recommend this computer to anyone.
