The Vaio Slimtop is a largely unremarkable system. Its price is higher than average for desktops as a whole. The product also includes a 1 GHz Pentium III chip, 128 MB of RAM (expandable to 512 MB), a 40 GB hard disk, a 32x (read), 8x (write), 4x (rewrite) CD-RW drive, a SIS 630 hardware acceleration graphics card, 56K modem, and a 10/100 Mbps Ethernet network card. The system comes with Windows Millennium Edition (Windows Me) installed, making it suitable for home and consumer users but less than optimal for technical and professional users who might want the superior security and reliability of Windows 2000 or Windows XP. Microsoft Word 2000 word-processing software is included as well.
