Description:

Upgrading your PC from time to time is a necessity. Upgrading all the components that come along with the central CPU "box" is not. For anyone who is satisfied with their existing monitor, speakers, and accessories or plans to purchase such items separately, Compaq offers the Presario 4403US desktop. A bit less glamorous than a complete package, the 4403US nevertheless houses all the ingredients that make a PC tick and strikes a good balance between performance and affordability.

Topping the unit's feature list is a cost-effective Intel Celeron processor. With 256 KB of Level 2 cache and a 1.4 GHz clock speed, this version of the Celeron is by no means Intel's speediest processor. It is, however, capable of efficiently running common home and home office applications such as word processors, spreadsheets, and e-mail and Internet utilities. Combined with 128 MB of SDRAM (expandable to 512 MB), an integrated Direct AGP 3-D graphics chip, and a SoundMax III digital audio processor, the 4403US system engine is not designed for hard-core gamers or professional 3-D artists but should suit less demanding users just fine.

The 4403US offers plenty of data storage options, including a generous 60 GB hard drive, a 3.5-inch floppy disk drive, and a 24x (write) CD-RW drive through which you can archive files and play and record audio CDs. And if you ever do want to expand, the unit features two additional PCI slots and a single open AGP slot.

The 4403US is packed with a variety of amenities to enhance day-to-day computing. An integrated 56K modem supplies basic Internet access, a 10/100 Ethernet card offers multiple computer networking and high-speed Internet connectivity, and four USB ports (two on the back and two conveniently located on the front) are ready for your plug-and-play peripherals. You'll also find a serial "printer" port, a line-in and line-out audio port, a microphone-in connection, and two PS/2 ports. A Compaq standard keyboard and Internet scroll mouse complete the hardware picture.

Compaq has stocked the 4403US with plenty of software to help get you started, including Microsoft's Windows XP Home Edition operating system, Microsoft Money 2002, Microsoft Works 6.0, Quicken Financial Center/Quicken New User Edition, and oodles of useful Internet and multimedia tools and utilities.
