Summary: Looks great but not for power users
Review: If you are looking for a powerful system for serious gaming, running high end CAD software, or plan to burn a lot of MP3s, then this system probably isn't for you. Go look at the PowerMacs ... or a good P4 based system ....

Why? The G4 is a good CPU, but not exactly a powerhouse and the graphics sub-system has been out of date for about a year. However if you want to write papers, play a few games, surf the web and play around with digital images and music, then... well buy a low-end P4 based system and save about .... But if you want to add "and I want it to look cool" to this statement then when have arrive at the new IMac.

This is the perfect system for someone who enjoys some light computing time with an easy to use system with lots of free extras and want to look over at their funky little computer and say to themselves "cool". Lets face it, not everyone is a power user and most people don't like to upgrade their computers. So while I can't make the arguement to buy this on "price or performance," I can make it on "cool and easy to use."

If you aren't sure head down to a CompuUSA (the only place I know that carries Macs and PCs) and play with a P4 with Windows XP and a Mac with OSX. You will walk away liking one of them better - buy it. Ignore the raving of people who love one or the other and make that their personal crusade, and buy the one that speaks to you.

Summary: Super duper
Review: I love my mac.

Like many I've recently made the switch (again) from a pc to a mac. But unlike many I was switching from an old 1996 COMPAQ Presario that used W95. It was a lovely old machine that only ever had one problem....towards the end it just didn't have the power to do multiple tasks. I have 750MHz of RAM onboard my G4 800MHz imac and the graphics are awesome. My Dad has a brand new XP job witth all the bells and whistles. But it doesn't hold a candle to this little beauty.

While its hardware design is well documented, it's the software packages made for OS X that have been the big positive for me. Windows and Office for Windows (whatever version) are dull grey affairs with little colour...other than skins for IE. Everything about mac packs is visually appealing and they work without trips to the Blue Screen. All this chatter about fewer software packages being made for imac is true, but only a marginal problem. The main ones are all mac friendly and often a lot better than their Windows alternatives. If you don't like macs because they don't have as many games then you need to seriously look at how you spend your precious free time.

Oh, and also, there's the online help which is superb. And the iTools site which gives you free webmail, a homepage where you can store pics and movies and the idisk which gives you up to a Gb of extra online hard disk space. You don't need a zip drive. All these online tools are never mentioned in imac reviews and yet they are superb.

My only complaint is that I seem to get tired more quickly in front of the imac's LCD screen. There are great controls for font and pitch and you can control almost everything about the onscreen layout to suit your needs. But my eyes hurt sometimes. Maybe I need to change the fonts again.

Still, this is only a minor problem with a machine that is lovely to look at and a pleasure to own. If only pcs could be this good.

Summary: iMac ... i wonder
Review: I was loaned an iMac by Apple to review for my website. And while I agree that this is a beautiful machine, well made and a great machine for the "home user" it is NOT as robust as I would have liked.

To say that there are more applications for this than a Windows machine is NOT right, and these are NOT as robust for high end work.

Granted the iMac is targeted to home users, and for iDVD, iMovie, Office, and email this will be fine. The chances of crashing it are slim. However OSX crashes more often that XP under intense graphical stimulation (3D applications, Photoshop, Flash etc).

OSX is also slower than XP, esp playing back any CPU based animation.

Having said all this ... I would still highly recommend any home user buying one of these ... but if your into anything more than Office and iMovie .. get a G4, Ti-Book or even the new G5 coming out soon.

Summary: Great Computer
Review: I, being a computer fanatic, have always bought Windows operating computers. But when this computer came out, I decided to make the change, even though I have never really liked Macs. So the first thing i did was alot of research. I compared it to all the other leading models of computers (mostly PC's) and decided that this was my best choice. When I got it, it was amazing. It was a "super space saver" and had a brilliant display. It ran every program super fast. I have been using it for every imaginable use possible and it has exceeded any other computer I have tried. The graphics are probably the best feature, even though every part of it is better than a PC. I am very, very satisfied with this computer.

Review: i WAS a long time windows user, not a power user, but more capable than most hobbyists. i kept upgrading and upgrading, hoping to finally get the operating system and the hardware to WORK without crashing. my goal was to make digital movies, slide shows with my digital stills, and surf the net. i was obviously asking for way too much. i spent roughly 75% of my time tweaking my computer or rescuing it. the other 25% was spent surfing. i gave up on producing quality products. that was then, this is now. i bought the new i mac on a whim. upgraded the ram to 768 mb, running os X, have an external seagate 60 gb hd, and just bought the i pod. WOW!!! everything works! no system crashes. true plug and play. i can make dvd's like i could produce a floppy on my windows machine. what a dream come true. add me to the long list of i mac fans and windows converts that will NEVER buy another windows system.

Summary: As God/dess is my witness, I will never buy Micro$oft again!
Review: For years I laboured with a PC. Cursing and spitting everytime it crashed, yelling countless profanities for every pop up window which stated I performed an illegal operation. Losing countless hours of my life trying to get some useful information from Micro$oft tech support. Never again. I have an iMac, and it is GREAT, I tell you , GREAT!...Thank you Steve Jobs and all the creative (a word that is absent from the Micro$oft vocabulary) minds at apple for releasing a great product. ...

Summary: Best MAC yet... but its still a mac
Review: A (girl) friend of mine got this "pc". She is a typical college girl: rich, confused, vain... but she's still nice and a friend so I was helping her set up some aps.

OK, the thing is damn simple and easy to set up, so if you're intimidated by the 5 cords you need to hook up a PC that isn't a toy, this MAC is for you.

One thing that is nice is the SUPER-DRIVE... CD-RW and DVD-RW in one, that is something a WIN based PC doesn't have. However, both drives read and write at less than half the speed that is standard for AMD/INTEL PCs's. Good idea, but disgustingly slow.

Right out of the box this little loaf was dangerously low on system resources. When I'm waiting for things to download and install I do other things. This revolutionary technique is called "multi-tasking" and will cause any MAC to get pathetically unstable. I was running about 4 windows of NETSCAPE (whatever the hell that is) and about 2 downloads. This POWER PC couldn't keep up and crashed. This was something I had no problem with on my P-celeron 366 4 years ago. Not to mention trying to navigate with that ... dinosaur, the One Button Mouse.

OK so this MAC cost nearly twice of a INTEL-AMD PC. So for twice the money you get the following: less than half the performance, about 15% of software on the market that you can pay much more for (anyone worth their salt knows it), satisfaction of being in a vain, impractical and dying minority.

One advantage this PC might have is good multi-media applications. I don't know enough about making my own movies. So if you're some kind of internet pornographer this MAC
might be for you.

How can MAC still be around? I'll tell you how, people who don't know anything about computers support them. The fools who run the US public school system, people who drive VW's, people who have no business using a computer, a disproportionately high number of women, communists, people of less than 80 IQ, people who use AOL, people who can afford to fly around the world to protest "globalization".

Unless MAC finds a way to keep up it will die, TV commercials manipulating the GAP crowd will only support a company for so long. So if your MAC can handle it, go ahead and give me that negative vote. I love it! ; )

Summary: The most amazing computing experience ever!
Review: I consider myself to be a very hard core computer user - I use my computers very heavily and therefore I expect a lot from them. However, after reading about the new Imac, I decided that I had to try it out for my next computer, and boy am I glad I did. This computer has to be the easiest to use computer I have ever owned, much more so than any PC. As an example, it took me a full day to set up a network for my families computers, and even then, the network constantly required maintenance. However, none of this was necessary with the iMac - I literally took it out of the box, plugged it in, and was connected to my network. Now that I have tried a mac, I know that I never want to go back to a pc.
