Description:
The new Power Mac G4 M9145LL/A may be the most affordable entry in Apple's mid-level Power Mac G4 series, but it is nonetheless a capable desktop computer that offers several advantages to similarly equipped PCs. For world-class power, you may want to check out Apple's stunning new Power Mac G5 lineup. However, for typical desktop tasks, the Power Mac G4 M9145LL/A strikes a good balance between performance and price. Driving the Power Mac G4 M9145LL/A is a 1.25 GHz PowerPC G4 processor. Although its rated clock speed may not seem as fast as that of similarly priced PC CPUs, this powerful chip features a stunning 1 MB of fast-access Level 3 cache and is therefore ready for most real world applications. Apple has paired this processor with 256 MB PC2700 (333 MHz) DDR SDRAM memory (expandable to a whopping 2 GB) and an ATI Radeon 9000 Pro graphics card with 64 MB DDR SDRAM video memory and dual display support. It has enclosed a spacious 80 GB 7200 RPM hard disk for storage of your files and programs, and a combination DVD-ROM/CD-RW drive through which you can burn and play audio CDs, backup data and watch the latest Hollywood movies. The unit does not support DVD burning in its stock configuration. In typical Apple style, the Power Mac G4 M9145LL/A is dynamically designed. Featuring a metallic/transparent case, an etched Apple logo and a variety of front-mounted connections, it is both dramatic and functional. Amenities include two standard FireWire 400 ports, four standard USB 1.1ports, an Apple Pro keyboard with 15 programmable function keys and CD eject control, and an Apple Pro mouse. Wired communications are available through an internal 56K modem and integrated 10/100/1000BASE-T Ethernet interface. Wireless connectivity is supported via a separately available AirPort card. The system includes just a single internal mono speaker and no display screen, but does provide provisions for any level of audio-video setup. Apple has pre-installed a broad range of software, including the Mac OS X v10.2 "Jaguar" and Mac OS 9 operating systems and a variety of multimedia and Internet utilities.
