Rating: Summary: Cute, but may be difficult to see. Review: A friend gave me his older Blueberry iMac G3 350MHz sans FireWire (DV, IEEE 1394). I decided to update the machine. Installed MacOS 10.2 with several revisions, and increased the RAM from 64MB to 320MB SDRAM (quite cheap upgrade).
It's not a bad machine if it had a VGA output, but the monitor portion is known to be less reliable every time you use it. So I decided to get rid of it this past summer, before going to college. The machine had so much potential, but design caused this particular model to fall from grace.
The machine is so cute and compact, plus it had decent sound quality, but it was lacking at the bass end, causing distortion (not intended for bass audio anyway). The hard disk was crammed so far into the machine, especially the 12v power connector - quickly became a headache.
Sadly, many school systems in our state invest in such a machine. But it was better than the Howard (custom) machines and late 90's Compaq desktops. These days it's the first generation LCD iMac that's in classrooms. But for prospective second hand buyers, go for the first generation iMac, they're built like tanks! (well at least being more reliable).
