Rating: Summary: Very comfortable, but the bass kills the rest of the sound Review: These are definitely NOT audiophile headphones, but then, they are earbud style. What is surprising is the bass. Regrettably, the bass is the only interesting thing about the sound, since midrange and treble are seriously lack-lustre. In Sony's defense, these are also the most comfortable earbud-style phones I've ever used. Don't expect the mid-size rubber pads that come already installed to fit perfectly - one of the things that surprised me was that my left ear needed the larger pad to effect a good seal from outside sounds, and to secure the bass response. Using these for watching a DVD movie (The Fifth Element) on my laptop was a reasonably pleasant experience - it seems that the excess bass doesn't really mess up movie sound too much. If you thinking of using these for classical or baroque music, forget it - the lack of midrange and treble is really irritating. In fact, I'm keeping them only because they are very comfortable and small enough to pack in my laptop bag, and I have decided that the bass problem is one I can live with. iPod users might find that using the "Treble Booster" equalizer setting helps to compensate for the overbearing bass that these generate. If you're using them with a computer for playing music, you're going to need to play with equalizer settings to get a more even sound. It's important to note that unlike most other ear-bud phones, these do significantly reduce ambient sounds (with no sound signal applied, they work rather well as ear-plugs), so I don't think you should use them in situations where hearing impairment can endanger you.
Rating: Summary: Terrific Replacement Review: These are my earphones of choice to replace the iPod headphones. They''re comfortable, they stay put and they're unobtrusive. (I wish they came in white though to match my iPod) The sound is pure pleasure. I highly recommend these.
Rating: Summary: Fontopia Review: These are simply the best earbuds on the market. My Sennheisers have now officially retired. Besides, wear those clumpy things for a couple of hours, you've got one major headache to deal with. Team these little dudes with an iPod and you're set. Cheers Sony! :p
Rating: Summary: Simply Stunning Review: These are, in my opinion, the best earbud headphones on the market. First is comfort. Until these I hated earbuds. These stay in my ears , and provide a great seal against outside noise. Sony did a superb job of understanding the ear canal and designing a device that is very comfortable and conveys all the music. Now, the sound? Just blows me away. Great bass and very good treble and midrange. Incredible detail. You really get the best earbud sound capable. Until these i simply never believed that I would get this level of comfort and high quality sound in an earbud headset. BTW, I use them with an iPod. These buds really max out the iPod sound in an earbud format. If you have a portable listening device, this headphone set may be the best investment for the care and feeding of your music listening ears. My only minus is having to fuss with the wires everytime I take it out of my pocket. There needs to be some sort of wire management device. This would get it the 5th star from me.
Rating: Summary: An excellent buy for music enthusiast Review: These headphones are a true marvel. If you are looking to enhance your portable units performance, buy them. The only problem that I had with them is the silicon attachments that fit over the drivers. If tugged to hard they come off, and in some cases you loose them. And we all know that this often happens. Other than that, if you use a little care, these are a great purchase.
Rating: Summary: Best Earbud Headphones I ever had Review: This is by far the best portable headphones I ever had. The last earbud that I have is Aiwa and this Sony wins in the Bass department. This headphones comes with 3 different earbud sizes...one of them will fit your ears perfectly. For me, it's the largest one they include. After you find the perfect fit for you, then you can definitely hear everything...from the deep bass to the high treble. The sound quality can't be better coming from a headphones this size. Although a little bit pricy, I think it's worth the money you spend. Moreover, the silicon earbuds can be washed if it gets dirty. I'm using this headphones for my Jukebox Zen and can't be more satisfied. Recommended !!
Rating: Summary: excellent cans Review: This review is for the Sony MDR-EX71SL's. These headphones are great. Outstanding bass response;better than many over-the-ear type cans i've used. The cord is short but you must use the supplied extension cable. Also, the headphones must be put in from the back so when you take them out of your ears they hang down from your neck; cool idea Sony! The earpads (small, med, and large) do impact the sound greatly. So you have to make sure you have the right size in your ear. If you own an iPOD like myself, get the white Sony MDR-EX71SL's. Sony got it right with these cans!
Rating: Summary: Don't move Review: When these in-ear headphones are properly installed (and getting them in right is like an installation) the sound is amazing. I've heard parts of songs that I'd never heard before. But the headphones suffer from two massive flaws. The first is that if the headphones move the tiniest bit out of your ear canal, the sound quality plummets. This is a huge problem because the cord is so long that it is guaranteed to catch on something and jiggle the earbuds. Even when wrapped up and out of the way, the cord will respond to the slightest movement and pop the earbuds out of your ears. This is extraordinarily frustrating, all the more so because the sound is so good. I do NOT recommend these headphones to active people or to people that plan on moving much at all. If, however, you don't plan on moving much with these headphones, you're golden. Also note: that little case that comes with them should be used all the time; the earbud pieces will come off in your bag or pocket and the case helps prevent that. It also helps prevent just whipping out your iPod and listening, since you have to undo the case and store it, but that's the least of your problems with these headphones.
