Rating: Summary: Unmatched sound for portable systems Review: For two years I obsessed with findin the right pair of headphones, and wasted a lot of money on the problem. See, I like to listen to my music LOUD, and I was having a problem when I go rid of my car (and the stereo system in it) and started walking everywhere using a portable cd player. The amp in the portables is just too weak to power most hi-fi headphones (even more noticable in older cds which were mastered with a greater dynamic range and therefore have an average volume lower than newer cds). You have to have a very efficient speaker, able to produce a lot of sound with a little power. Most cheap headphones are efficient like this, but the trade-off with effciency is really cruddy sound. So yes, in an absolute sense there are many better headphone sets than Bose, and I've tried both Grado (which don't cover the ear and block outside noise) and Sennheiser which other reviewers praise, and they have truer sound, but they are less efficient and therefore not as loud with the weak amplifier in a portable player. The Triports are great; I have yet to hear another pair headphones that sound as rich and LOUD on a portable player. Even if the sound is slightly artificial, until they start putting more power into portable players, its a trade-off I've accepted that I have to make. (And yes, they are fragile. After mine innevitably broke I put one of those plastic cincher bands on the weak plastic part of the headband and clamped it with pliers. Works fine now, but this is a serious problem for $150 headphones. And they should be collapsible with a hard case like the quiet comfort, which they're not. I carry mine in a huge tupperware container, to the mirth and enjoyment of others)
Rating: Summary: "Electronics Fan" is a troll Review: I do not own these headphones but this guy is giving multiple bad reviews for the same product. Just check out other Bose headphones. Obviously he/she has something against Bose and is trying to influence everyone for whatever reason. I am giving it 5 stars just to counteract this troll.
Rating: Summary: don't believe the hype Review: I have always been very attracted to the Bose product design and brand. Their noise-canceling headphones (which these are not) are advertised in very high-end magazines, and the high price point for their products in general suggests that this company offers good quality for those who care a lot about music.Well, it turns out that I fell for the marketing. These aren't terrible headphones, but you should know what you're getting. I got my first pair to use with my mp3 player two years ago, and I loved them. Although they aren't noise canceling, they do suppress a fair amount of background noise, and the sound is crisp and clear. I just bought my second pair of the same product, and it's a whole different story. This time, I got a pair to go with my electronic keyboard at home, which -- through my old headphones -- usually produces deep, rich, near-realistic piano sounds. What sounded great with an mp3 player now sounds horrible -- all the sounds are now impossible bright, and no matter how much fiddling i do with the keyboard controls, the realism and texture of the sound has been completely destroyed. If you read any websites that mention Bose, you'll learn that their speakers and headphones purposefully distort the sound patterns to be more pleasing to the ear. Given my previous, positive experience with this set of headphones, I didn't believe the result could be so dramatic, but it turns out that those distortions are "work" in certain contexts -- like a mp3 player without much juice, in a busy office or airport. In other contexts (e.g., my piano), they are awful. If you truly care about textured sound, I would look elsewhere and spend less money.
Rating: Summary: Fragile and expensive, but still worth owning Review: I skipped all the reviews about how fragile these were and went out and bought some anyway. One of the reasons I bought these over anything else is that they are light. I hate big and bulky headphones. My primary usage for these headphones is an Ipod. From my understanding, certain more expensive large headphones have problems producing loud volumes in portable devices. These headphones have no such problems.
It was hard to go and purchase these. So many people think BOSE makes junk and just believe what they hear and just keep spreading it around. Go out and try the products for yourself first. I almost skipped them because I almost wanted to believe BOSE made stuff that wasn't any good.
Anyway, I tried these and they brought new life to my music. Everything sounded so much better than my Sony Fontopia headphones. Such an amazing difference. I also quite frequently prefer using these headphones with my ONKYO receiver to watch DTS movies. This is over $1000 home theater speakers.
Now onto the bad news. Yes, they ARE fragile. Very fragile. Within 4 months the plastic piece holding the ear piece broke and now if I want to listen to them I have to hold them up to my head like one of those old telephones. Ok, I don't do that, but I was so dissappointed all day. Not only that but I lost my receipt and couldn't return them or get a replacement. I was wrong. The nice people at BOSE let me send them back for a replacement. That's good service! No phone calls, no waiting on hold. All done by email in a matter of days.
Stupid me thought I couldn't get a replacement so I went out and got some Sennheiser HD 580's for a little bit more. I was expecting them to be blown away by them but they were honestly just a tad better to my ears and are built MUCH better.
My opinion is that if you primarily use portable devices and want the best sound, get these. If you mainly use them on devices such as a computer, receiver etc maybe something from Sennheiser would be better for long term.
My opinion is that the triports sound like $149 headphones. They are not built like $149 headphones though. The quality is more like a $50 pair of headphones. Does this make sense to you? It's probably to keep them light. I will say though that they are some of the most comfortable headphones i've ever used! I think if BOSE eventually reduced the price to $99 they'd be a steal and would FLY off the shelves. Don't tell me these really cost that much to make!
Sennheiser sells headphones that have replacable parts and offers more expensive "upgraded" models with higher quality parts. Maybe BOSE should do the same.
And BTW these are far better than any $100 Sony or Pioneer headphones IMO. I've tried several of them.
Anyway, keep the receipt. If it wasn't for the cheap plastic these would get a 5/5 definitely!
Rating: Summary: Way, way overpriced! Review: I took my trusty old Sennheisers with me when I tried out these in a shop, and guess what? No contest: Sennheiser DESTROYS Bose in a nanosecond! Much more natural sound, none of the exaggerated highs, boomy lows and empty mids...thank God I tried before buying!
Granted, the Bose sound better than my $20 Sonys I use for jogging, but you can get the Sennheisers for less money to enjoy much better sound.
Rating: Summary: never got the best....until.. Review: Just bought the triport from Bose Singapore yesterday. But nothing much to say except this is the incredible superb audio entertainment creature you can't miss. 5 stars is perfectly worth.
Rating: Summary: different color Review: just got my BOSE Triport Headphone today, it's awesome, but the product i received is a different color than the one in the picture. i got silver, not "dark grey" as shown in the pic.
Rating: Summary: Good, but Fragile Review: Pros: 1. Possibly the best sounding pair on the market. 2. Long cable. Cons: 1. Fragile (Do not think you can toss these in your luggage, will break easily).
Rating: Summary: Lots of background noise Review: Sometimes I sit in a porch swing to listen to music. This headphones pick up the slightest wind noise. I didn't expect to buy headphones that required zero movement of my head. The roar is quite noticable with the slightest rocking motion.
Rating: Summary: Don't buy it! Review: Sure it sounds fantastic, but what's the point if you can't use it more than a year? I got it as a gift and it broke into pieces within a year. It's total design flaw; adjustable earpiece is connected by steel plates, but they covered them with low quality plastic, so the plastic start cracking after couple of use. I used rubberband to add some support, but later entire earpiece fell off. My SONY headphone($29) lasted 7 years, but this $150 headphone lasted less than a year. Please go get something else... unless you're a millionare.
