Pretec 1.3MP & VGA SD Camera support Pocket PC 2003/2002/Palm 5.x with SD IO

Summary: Pertec Camera Disappointing
Review: I ordered the 1.3M pixel camera but have been shipped the VGA (300K pixel) twice now. It appears that the 1.3 M pixel is not yet available from Pertec.

The LED "flash" is TOTALLY ineffective. It was one of the key reasons I purchased this item but found it has absolutely no noticeable effect. In a dark room, objects even 1 foot away are NOT illuminated!

The lens focus is very poor. while the lens rotates thru about 300 degrees (supposedly to focus from near to far), only about 30 degrees of it is effective. Anything more (towards infinity focus) actually throws everything out of focus! I would rather have seen a mechanically restricted range which would give a better idea of where you were.

It is very difficult to focus as there is a substantial (1-2 second) delay from cause to effect. Any attempt to focus takes that long to show up in the viewfinder so unless you move VERY slowly or go in very little steps, you can not tell what is happening. It makes it impossible to "peak" tune to the sharpest focus point.

After using this camera for a few weeks, I would hesitate to recommend it to anyone.
