Rating: Summary: Cool gear! Review: I work as a writer for a software design company. I do a moderate amount of travelling, and tons of moving around the company campus to various meeting locations. Before I bought the keyboard, I used a notepad and pen to take notes. This meant that everywhere I went I had to remember to take my Palm, notebook, and pen. Then I would type my handwritten notes into my PC. It was time consuming, and less than ideal. Now, I just plunck down my IIIc and keyboard and type away. Then I hotsync, and - presto - my notes are on my PC. No muss, no fuss. The keyboard is quiet enough to use during meetings, and small enough to fit on an airline tray-table. I love this thing! Highly recommended for those who do a lot of writing on-the-go. Much better than the Go-Type keyboard (which I investigated, but didn't buy), as I can put my IIIc in one coat pocket, and the keyboard in the other, and never notice that they're there. I've had none of the problems indicated in other reviews - the software installation was a breeze, the keyboard itself has worked flawlessly, and it has withstood heavy use quite well. One caveat - the keyboard must rest on a solid surface other than your lap, as the center hinge will allow it to "sag" slightly in the center if it is not supported. A great gizmo for gadget-heads.
Rating: Summary: This review is here to help Review: The Palm V Portable Keyboard. As much as I'd like to help, I cant' be the judge of if you need a keyboard, but if you are considering an option for text input for your palm this is a great alternative and hands down the best keyboard, of any type, for the Palm unit. Did I say hands down, yes, without a doubt. Though some are in denial, it's a fact that some people just don't take well to the graffiti writing system. The unit needs no external power supply, it gets its energy from the Palm. The energy passes through the docking connection on the bottom of your Palm unit. The same connection that will allow you to plug your Palm into the keyboard. The keyboard has a nice balance of bounceback on your fingers and also enough click to tell that you've typed a key. So it doesn't sound like a typewriter, yet is lets you know that it's there. It's large enough that you won't feel like you're trying to organize a stamp collection yet it fits on a desk comfortably. After owning one for a while you may notice that the hinges loosen up and allow it to fold quicker. This is good for storage, but bad when on your lap. Don't get me wrong it won't fold completely in half but it does make it more challenging to type in those situations where you need to type on the go(bus, train, car). While folded up for storage mode, the keyboard is roughly twice the thickness of the Palm V unit, as well as slightly wider and taller. If you are a loyal Palm owner there is another fact that may give you a sense of confidence, the keyboard is a Palm Licensed Product and of very high quality. So take a moment to ponder your grasp of the graffit/stylus writing input. Once you've decided that you need options the hard part is over and the Palm keyboard is waiting.
Rating: Summary: A great product that can change how you work Review: This is one of the only devices I own that has really changed the way I go about my day. Neither my cell phone, nor my Franklin Planner, nor my Palm V alone (which replaced my Franklin Planner) has had this kind of impact. The design is a marvel: compact, elegant, and solid. They keyboard has an excellent responsive feel, better than many desktop keyboards. The shortcuts are intuitive and work with all the standard Palm software and all of the third party software I own (in particular, Info Select). This accessory empowers the Palm V so completely that it should be tried by every Palm owner. I purchased this product in an attempt to buy productivity. For once, it worked. I can hardly believe that I used to carry my laptop to meetings in order to take *notes*.
Rating: Summary: A good accessory for your Palm Review: This keyboard has certainly made my life easier. I'm a graduate student, and my laptop recently died. I couldn't pony up money for a new one, so I pieced together a "poor man's laptop" using a new Palm m500 and the keyboard! With all the free software available--especially if you combine this with Documents to Go--this helps make your Palm a great resource for taking notes in class or the library, and reviewing papers if you can't sit down in front of a real computer. A real asset for me. One star lost for ease of use, as it does take a little while to get used to the extremely flat keyboard, but overall very good. If you buy the keyboard, be sure to check out the carry-all case, too.
Rating: Summary: Excellent...one of the best products EVER made! Review: This thing is absolutely invaluable. Not only does it replace my bulky, slow laptop, but the keyboard is truly an engineering miracle. Everyone I show this to is impressed at how compact and useful it is. When folded, the keyboard is the same size and only a little thicker than my Palm Vx. When unfolded, the keys are the same size as on my laptop and work FLAWLESSLY! If you own a Palm, I strongly suggest you buy this AND a copy of Blue Nomad software's WORDSMITH and you'll have an MS Word compatible word processor at a fraction of the cost and bulk! Whether or not you plan on doing a lot of typing, I still suggest that you buy this since it makes a great conversation piece!
