Rating: Summary: Works Intermittently & Poor Technical Support Review: I purchased the Pretec Modem for a Cassiopeia E-115. The Modem usually will not Dial Out and Hangs at the Port Open & has to be reset. It sometimes indicates that an IR Send or Receive is in use indicating that there is a conflict.Sometimes reinstalling the ISP information will get the modem to function properly for a while. Most of the time the Modem will not Dial. Technical support was NOT helpful & they kept referring me to a website that did not offer any insight into this particular problem. If you purchase this product for a Cassiopeia E-115 I hope your experience is more pleasant.
Rating: Summary: Pretec Modem Is Easy! Review: I purchased the Pretec modem for my HP Jornada 545 and was amazed at how simple it is to use. By simply popping it in the unit, Windows automatically recognized it and no drivers were required. I did have a configuration problem and Pretec support had me the answers I needed in under a minute! I recommend this product for anyone looking to take full advantage of their Pocket PC. It's a must.
Rating: Summary: Works Great Review: I purchased this CF Modem card to use with my Ipaq 3600 series pocket pc. It works Great! The unit came with the modem, phone cable, and a small instruction manual. I followed the instruction manual to configure my dial-up connection and email settings. Everything worked great. It was also nice to see a chart at the back of the book noting DNS settings for the larger ISP's. I have been using the modem for a little over a week now. I have had no problems and am very satisfied.
Rating: Summary: No Luck With Pretec. Review: I really wish that the Pretec 56K modem had worked with my Jornada 545,but it would'nt. I have Prodigy ISP,and entered all the required info. several times, but no luck. I continued to get "No Carrier Detected" message on the Jornada. I called Pretec Tech. Support and got minimal help. I also called my ISP and double checked all entries that are required-still no luck. ... It could be defective, but I don't think so.
Rating: Summary: Quickly up and running Review: I received my modem a few days ago with some reservation because there are a number of similar products on the market...did I buy the right one? Well, I have a CASIO E-115 pocket PC with AOL email software included. Upon receiving the modem, I simply plugged it in to the expansion card slot and immediately my system recognized the modem without any problems. Dial up was brainless and I was up and running within 5 minutes. I haven't tried a standard connection through outlook to receive email, but it shouldn't be difficult. The best selection criteria I can give you is the price for the quality of product that you are receiving. This modem is priced at $... and is certainly worth it compared to similar modems priced at $.... Definitely worth your money and reliable!!
Rating: Summary: Helps convert your Pocket PC into a laptop replacement Review: I travel frequently on business and used to take along my 7.1 lb Dell laptop. In general, however, when on the road I really only need e-mail access and light word processing. When I recently upgraded from an old Palm III to the Compaq iPAQ pocket pc, I picked up the Pretec modem as well. It is tiny, so that it fits easily into a small case that also carries the AC adapter and a few other odds and ends. But it works great. I have had no difficulty accessing my AOL e-mail, using the AOL Anywhere software. I had a bit more trouble configuring the software to get access to my network, but that is up and running too now. Granted, the manual didn't help much. But the software is pretty intuitive and any Windows 9x user who set up dial-up networking on their PC will have no trouble setting up dial-up networking on their Pocket PC. The Pretec is remarkably tough. I have dropped it 3 feet onto a hardwood floor, banged it into a wall, and generally abused it. No problems. Like the old Time watch ads...it takes a licking and keeps on ticking. Download speed is great. The only major problem is that it is a real power hog. Keep that AC adapter handy. Recommended.
Rating: Summary: IT DOESN'T WORK IN CASIO POCKET PC E-115 Review: I TRIED THIS WITH TWO PRETEC MODEMS AND TECK SUPPORTS FROM CASIO AND PRETEC AND IT WASN'T RECOGNIZED. I'M GOING TO TRY THE CASIO MODEM
Rating: Summary: Works great for me Review: I use it on the road with my Cassiopeia and it has worked in every hotel room, giving me internet access on my PDA. I do wish it would make some noise while trying to connect however since I can never tell if it dialed out of the hotel correctly.
