Summary: Nice [] gadget. Limited. Drains power too fast!
Review: I had been waiting to try this camera for a while. I finally got it a few months ago and all I can say it's a really nice gadget! Unfortunately not more than that for the moment since it's way [too much] for what the hardware offers. Don't get me wrong, this gizmo sports features like an 800 by 600 resolution and video capture capability at 320 by 240 at 10fps in clips with a maximum duration of 45 seconds and so forth.
Among its features the Nexicam ships with a software driver which allows users to gain control, over various settings and adjustments, to obtain pictures with the highest possible quality offered by the hardware. The software will make a little more worth the money spent on the Nexicam...but remember! I said "a little".
Of course it all depends on the specific user needs, but if you are thinking to switch to this gadget because you want to leave your digital camera home during your next trip, or a party at a friend's house (like I was thinking to do)...well, I would give you a friendly advice that will spare you a lot of frustrations: stick with your digital camera at this time...you'll be much better off!

In short
I would have a lot to talk about how this unit could be improved such as making it more compaxt or adding an "optic body", swappable optional lenses and so forth, because I see the nexicam as a great potential unit, but that would go way off path here, therefore I will spare you from such details. I will only mention a list of pros and cons, based on my experience with this product and on my personal opinion (that you may or may not share), which will hopefully give you one of many point of views.

Pros: SVGA 800 by 600 resolution, Video capable (320 by 240 no audio), integrated CF Slot for additional Storage, auto focus (that can be slightly adjusted through a lens gear), iPAQ form factor.
Cons: comes with no battery, uses iPAQ's power therefore shortens its autonomy - comes with no flash, with no built in CF memory- does not include a CF Card - slow auofocus - low sensitivity exposure - GUI to be fine tuned The interface on the iPAQ simulates needlessly the back of a consumer digital camera which "steals" precious preview space - hardware design solution is still a bit bulky, no optical zoom, barely adequate lens, can be used only with iPAQ PDAs, poor documentation, comes in [poor] packaging.
As a recommandation I would suggest you stick with your digital camera because, as it is now, the Nexicam is not ready to replace it. But assuming that you are lucky enough to have no battery drain issues, I guess that if you want to grab pictures while on the go and you really need integration with your iPAQ, then the Nexicam may probably be a viable solution, if low quality is not an issue for you.

Summary: Beware.....it doesn't capture audio with video.
Review: I'm a new iPaq 5555 user, thrilled with it's features. This cam looks great, but in reviewing the user manual available from www.nexian.com I discovered that it does NOT capture audio with video, rendering video capture useless for my purposes.

FYI

Review: This is a very complicated piece of equipment. I still have not learned to use it yet.
