Rating: Summary: Almost perfect Review: The e740 is an overall excellent choice for anyone interested in a PDA. There are only a few drawbacks such as a poorly placed audio recording button and the fact that no extra software is included.
Rating: Summary: toshiba is inflexible to deal with Review: The product is great, but Toshiba corporate is the pits. They recalled this pda, and don't offer any compensation for the trouble.
Rating: Summary: Very Good, but could do better on processor and screen Review: Toshiba e740 is the first handheld to deliver a device with Intel's XScale processor as well as built-in Wi-Fi (802.11b) connectivity. I like it very much, but the 400 MHz processor is not that much better in performance than it's predecessor e310. Also the screen on iPaq is better. But, if you want functionality, this is the PDA for you. It has WiFi card for wireless internet browsing and many features that other PDAs have. At ($)Amazon is selling it for cheapest price as of today. Overall a great value.
Rating: Summary: My e740 was just recalled Review: Up until a few minutes ago, I would have said I was very happy with my e740. Now, I discover that my unit has been recalled for some problem with losing all data in case the battery is removed or runs down. This recall will mean that I will be without my e740 for over 1 week. Toshiba is not offering ANY type of compensation for my inconvenience. A free extra battery would be nice. That's what DELL offered when they had the battery recall last year.
Rating: Summary: Give BestBuy hell! (it pays off!) Review: all previous reviewers have mentioned the bad battery life and the fact that Toshiba KNOWS about this problem -0- but it should also be noted that Toshiba was amazing about sending me a free replacement battery ASAP! And yes, the voice record button is in a terrible place. And YES, I had to cut a WrightRight down to size to get it to fit the Toshiba (since I had one from the Sony Clie I bought and RETURNED!).
Rating: Summary: Great Pocket PC Review: This is a great pocket pc. It's small and powerful. It fits in your pocket nicely, great screen, the SD and CF slot are a big plus, you can expand it, I recently purchased the Targus CF modem and works great. The only thing I don't like about this product is the voice recorder button, it was put in a place where it should not be, whenever you try to take it out of its case, you press the button. However, even with this small problem, it is a great pocket pc, better than palm. Ooo, and it also has the great wireless WIFI capability, not to many PDAs have this feature. GREAT PDA!!!
Rating: Summary: Product is ok, BEWARE "the run-around" Review: The is the 1st PDA I've owned, so I don't have much to compare against. It seems fine, but has a few issues. PocketNES emulator plays jerky and not-too-good sound. Watching MPEGs doesn't seem to work to well either. But this is not a gameboy. As for being a digital organizer, it seems to be adequate... wireless networking is fine.
Rating: Summary: Best PocketPC Device in the Market Review: As far as cost-benefit, this product is the best in the market, especially if you are into the wireless technology. It recognized my wireless network at home (which did not have much security feature turned on :-) as soon as I turned it on the first time. The dual SD/CF expansion slots really give you more freedom for more storage space and any expansion device. I am pretty much satisfied with the extra 128MB space on my CompactFlash card at this point. It also allows me to do a quicker and more reliable backup/restore on the CF than from ActiveSync. The battery life is not as bad as some people say. I use it surf the web on my deck for, definitely, longer than 'one hour'. The device drops the wireless connection for you when you don't use it for a while, so that you don't drain out the power with the idle connection. I use a Belkin leather case for e310/e740, which alleviates problems some people complain about the sensitivity of the recorder button and the battery latch. In fact, these problems never bother me at all. The replaceable battery feature is great while you travel.
Rating: Summary: Very portable... A Good Value if you need its features. Review: * Overview The e740 provides me with a extremely portable presentation solution with all the goodies offered by Pocket PC 2002 (MP3, PIM, email, VPN, etc). ... ... There are literally dozens of specialized accessories ... that are not available for the e740. This may change over time... * Slots The e740 is a little thicker than some of its competitors ... but does not require a bulky sleeve or additional hardware to use CF and SD cards. Of course, this may not be as much of an issue if you do not use the Compact Flash slot very often ... If you do plan on using Compact Flash cards frequently, this feature alone can save you [amount] over an iPaq (which requires a separately-sold "expansion sleeve"). * Expansion Pack One accessory worth mentioning is the [amount] "Expansion Pack". It adds 1 inch to the bottom of the e740 and gives you a USB port and VGA output. I've had little luck getting anything other than a USB keyboard to work with the expansion pack. The VGA output is 800x600 8-bit color or 640x480 16-bit color. The included ATI software will convert your existing Power Point slides (including animation, some fonts, colors, formatting, and graphics) to and from the PDA format. You can even edit your slides directly on the PDA. Other presentation accessories for Pocket PC ... may offer more features or better resolution, but they will cost you at least another [amount] and are less portable. If you're on a budget and want a portable presentation package, this feature alone can make the e740 worth buying. * Wireless Wireless ethernet is the e740's where Toshiba spends its marketing dollars. It has an integrated 802.11b wireless card and antenna. There is no additional hardware or software required--just something to connect with. It worked with my Apple Airport Base Station, and a number of Lucent and Cisco enterprise base stations (but there is not a LEAP client I know of). The range is fair, maybe 75% of the range of my laptop using a Lucent WaveLAN PC Card. The wireless card has limited usefulness since it does not have an external antenna port, and drains the battery very quickly. One note--the power-save mode on the wireless card seems to be the biggest source of incompatibilities ... * Screen Quality The screen is above average when you compare it to models with a similar price, ... It's clear and easy to read indoors, but is almost impossible to read in bright sunlight ... Before you buy the e740, put it side-by-side to a transreflective screen and judge for yourself if the screen is good enough for you. * Battery Life The battery life is adequate. I usually get about 1-2 hours of battery life running the screen at FULL brightness, or about 2.5 when running at 75% brightness. I don't know how this compares to other Pocket PC's as most specs are done with brightness at 50% or less. The Wireless card will cut your battery life down by at least 25% or more, depending on range, traffic, and if you can use the power-saving feature. If you plan to use wireless, buy an extra AC Adapter or the extended battery pack. * Problems and Bugs A few bugs have yet to be fixed by Toshiba ... Sometimes the buttons will stop responding and requires you to hit the "Record" button for a second. The "Record" button is in a very stupid location, if you use the leather case that's included. It will randomly lose the connection with your desktop for no reason. The headphone jack outputs sound way too loud, even at the lowest volume ... The cord on the cradle is way too short. Battery indicator sometimes doesn't show the right battery level, or simply won't charge the battery. * Software Toshiba also includes very little software. All you get is the free Microsoft apps ..., Acrobat Reader, a ... "Home" program, and the ATI Presentation and Video Mirroring software. * Cases Another problem for me has been the lack of good cases--in particular, a rugged case built for the e740. I *HATE* leather slip cases (which in included), and ... "universal" cases that use straps and Velcro. For now, I'm stuck with a universal Rhino Pack 1100 that uses Velco to attach to the case. The elastic straps cover some of the buttons, screen, and indicator lights. And, I have to yank it out of the case every time I want to sync or recharge (daily). ...
Rating: Summary: The best PDA ever Review: This is the best thing it happen to me, next to my love of my life Edit..I would buy this Item any time in the near future.
